  1. With Tom Seaver’s death, Steve Stone shared a good story on the Sox broadcast. Spring training of his rookie year and they’re facing the Cardinals. Bob Gibson throws a fastball right under Seaver’s chin, walks halfway to the plate and says, “Welcome to the big leagues, kid.” Gibson’s first time up, Seaver puts a fastball right under his chin, walks halfway to the plate and says, “It’s good to be here.”
  2. I’ll bet Nick Madrigal is really looking to the 2024 election, so that he can vote too.
  3. Close, but my first rental would also need the ruffled shirt.
  4. My “nostalgia” issue with the powder blues isn’t that I can’t remember the not-so-happy years. It’s that I still think I might somehow lose the 40 pounds that will get me back into the one still hanging in my closet.
  5. Gonna have to disagree here. Don’t like the Nike logos across the board, but I think the Twins and Cardinals rock the powder blues.
  6. With protocols, I'll be a little surprised if the games are widespread. With 15 teams in Florida and 15 in Arizona, perhaps something like making three pods of five teams each that play games only within their pod several times per week.
  7. The specific plans depend a lot on when Odo is able to return, but here's what I see: Friday, Game 1: Dobnak is next up in the rotation and would have five days rest. Friday, Game 2: Maeda could pitch on four days rest, but I'd rather use him in a nine-inning game. If Odo is ready, it would be good to start him in a shorter game. If Odo isn't ready, I save him for the DH next Tuesday and go with the Bullpen. With the second doubleheader, another option would be to use Odo as an opener and go no more than three innings (<50 or so pitches) with hopes of bringing him back on Tuesday. Saturday: Maeda on five days rest:Sunday: It would be Hill's turn, but he hasn't gone more than five innings yet. I'd skip him and go with Pineda on four days rest. That also takes Hill out of the mix for the Cleveland series.Monday: Berrios on four days rest.Tuesday, Game 1: HillTuesday, Game 2: Odo, if he didn't go on Friday. Otherwise Bullpen. With Wednesday and Thursday off, this sets things up for Dobnak, Maeda, Pineda in the Cleveland series, with Berrios in Game 1 against the Sox. Beyond that, it could be either a 5 or 6 man rotation, depending on what Odo and Hill have done.
  8. You’re on for tomorrow night, right?
  9. I’ll say it again. Welcome back, Byron. Welcome back, Big Mike. And we’ll see you tomorrow night, Josh.
  10. So, in northern Indiana, the only games I get to watch are against the Sox. But from I’ve seen, I think Sano has the potential to be a pretty good first baseman. Most of the mistakes that I’ve seen so far, such as ranging too far in the first inning, seem to be from not having enough experience at the bag. Conversely, I’ve seen some very good scoops.
  11. Umpire seems to be generous side-to-side, but not up-and-down.
  12. Byron is definitely remembering Evan Marshall.
  13. Ouch. If he has to come out, Kepler is the only guy left.
  14. It was tied in the middle of the seventh last night too, but this game has been SO much less painful to watch.
  15. They’ll only give the SB if he was running on the pitch. But he did get a great jump when it was in the dirt.
  16. That's another way the Donaldson injury has been a killer.
  17. I like batting Arraez in this spot. Ball needs to be put in play.
  18. I wondered the same thing. Keuchel is a tough lefty, so it makes sense to give him a rest, but seeing Cave get the pinch hit opportunity here may be confirming the message. Edit: Or maybe he knew Cave was due.
  19. While we're at it, welcome back, Big Mike!
  20. One of the best things I've seen tonight is that Rosario looked like he was having fun when he got to first base and talked to the dugout. Their body language has looked defeated the last few days.
  21. And for what it's worth, Donaldson's OPS against Keuchel in 30 PA is about .085 below his career average. Don't know how that compares with how Marwin has done against Keuchel, but it's not like Donaldson has torn him up. At this point, Donaldson's presence as "presence" would be invaluable, however.
