  1. Trouble with the internet, so I had to connect the computer to my phone's hot spot. That reminded me of a story from my son's workplace. He works for the city cemetery department, which includes digging graves and helping with funerals in addition to his primary mowing responsibilities. Apparently the inventor of the USB port was local and passed away recently. They were having trouble getting the casket into the grave, but then they pulled it back up and rotated it 180 degrees.
  2. Whoa -- I'm a little late to the radio broadcast, because I needed to pause it to watch the video. That was really cool.
  3. I don't have a problem with how Rocco used the bullpen yesterday. I'm not completely clear on when you're suggesting he should have used Dobnak. First time through, I thought you meant use Dobnak in the 10th. If that's the case, I disagree -- I'd prefer not bringing him in to extra innings, since by definition he will start with runners on base. But if you are suggesting that Rocco go with him in the 7th, I'll sorta agree with you. In general terms, a tie game with multiple innings available could be a spot for him. In yesterday's case, with a rested bullpen, I'm fine with the approach he took. Rocco also always takes the long view, so I'm guessing he's looking to Shoemaker and Happ today and tomorrow as times he's more likely to need multiple innings from Dobnak. Which does lead me to another preference. I wish they'd align the rotation so that Maeda and Berrios, the two guys most likely to go long, weren't back-to-back. Three days of Pineda-Shoemaker-Happ is the starting combo most likely to tax the bullpen.
  4. I'll take a season where we win all the nine-inning games and lose all the extra-inning games.
  5. For the record, I was gardening.... I planted my butt right here on the chair as I did some work on the computer and listened to the home run.
  6. Cruz is up. That load is probably ready for the dryer.
  7. Next time Cruz is up, I think you should go out to check whether you put the flag up.
  8. By the way, Chief, do you remember how they celebrated the 10,000th MLB run? Weren't you at that game?
  9. Per Corey Provus, Kyle is not the first "Garlick" to play for the Twins. Twins historian Clyde Doepner has noted that "Knoblauch" is German for the spice.
  10. Apparently a couple of his pitches were as tasty as an empanada.
  11. In the spirit of today's Game Thread intro, there's a company in our community that makes modular and manufactured houses -- Sherlock Homes.
  12. Trivia time -- who scored the 1,000,000th run in MLB history? It was in 1975, and the player got 1,000,000 Tootsie Rolls, which he split between the Boy Scouts and the Girl Scouts, and 1,000,000 pennies, which he donated to charity. Answer coming in a couple innings.
  13. Don’t know that history, but in 2012, Melky Cabrera requested the rule not be invoked for his benefit because he was serving a PED suspension. Baseball and the MLBPA granted his request, so the title went to Buster Posey.
  14. There is, however, an exception that would apply to Buxton's circumstances in the case of slugging percentage. If a person come up short on the minimums in batting average, slugging percentage, or on base percentage, but his margin is such that he would still be the leader if he had enough unsuccessful additional at bats to reach the minimum, he is considered the leader and would be listed with his original stats. So, in this case, Buxton has 23 total bases in 19 at bats, for a 1.211 slugging percentages. However, with seven team games, his 21 total plate appearances is one short of the required 22 (7 x 3.1 = 21.). If he had an additional unsuccessful at bat, however, his resulting slugging percentage of 1.150 (23/20) is still above the second place 1.130 of Nick Castellanos. As a result, Buxton would be listed as the leader and would get credit for his actual 1.211. (In practical terms, Mr. Buxton will smack two more doubles and homer tomorrow, making this a moot discussion.)
  15. Sounds like the starter for Seattle on Saturday is Yusei Kikuchi. Too bad he didn't pitch against the Padres or Marlins about 20 years ago. Then, if someone asked who the hitter is against Yusei Kikuchi, I'd say "Mark Kotsay."
  16. Wait? Are you saying the Big Cat pitched. (I think you mean Armando.)
  17. Having watched Big Ten basketball this year, I disagree. Seemed like every three minutes they had to stop to look at something.
  18. I’ve liked Andrelton since he played for Atlanta. I think I’m going to start liking him even more!
  19. Discussion of Ohtani pitching and hitting. My understanding is Morneau’s, which is that if Ohtani bats on a day he pitches, they have foregone the DH. If that’s indeed the case, it seems a dumb idea to have him hit, since they’ll shoot their bench if he gets pulled early.
  20. Stinks Sano didn’t plate a run, but I liked his approach, even with getting jobbed on a strike call.
  21. Garlick looked he may have been pressing.
  22. Dude in section 105 — you’re supposed to take off your shirt and flex when you pick that ball up!
  23. Not unlike the first person who looked at a chicken and said, “I think I’ll eat the next thing that comes out of that thing’s butt.”
  24. But is said launderer getting larger?
