  1. In this order, here's lines on Wacha, Gray, Mahle, Ryan, Maeda... 2022 33 MIN AL 0 0 0.0 (did not pitch, recovering from Tommy John surgery...) Wacha averaged 5.5 innings per start (higher than any Twin), with a higher ERA+ than any Twins starter. Even if they stay healthy, there's going to be innings limits on the rookies and Maeda. As DJL suggests, Wacha could be a relief option (the long guy folks are clamoring for?), but he could also easily take Maeda's spot and make Maeda that long guy. If they are so fortunate to have them all healthy, I could also see them going the 6-starter route. So yes, please, on Wacha.
  2. TK K beat me. Yes to the Negro League Baseball Museum. I’ve not visited the jazz museum next door, but I’ve heard it’s excellent as well. I’m thinking you can get a twofer ticket. And yes to going around the corner to Arthur Bryant’s. BBQ has become trendy, so there are a number of upscale spots in town, but Bryant’s was one of the first. Work friends brag on Que 39 as well. KC was my first park as a kid. I hope to go back in 2024 to celebrate my 50th anniversary of attending MLB games. The K is now one of the older parks in baseball, but I think it’s held up amazingly well. It’s still one of my favorites.
  3. Said it last time — offer $70.2M for two years, with an opt-out after one! Seriously, at some point, Boras may have to go all Andre Dawson in reverse on people. Might as well be the Twins, right?
  4. I get annoyed with all the arguments about how to define an “ace,” but in that spirit, I don’t see what you’re describing as a “rebuild” if all you’re trading is Polanco, Kepler, Maeda, Gray and Pagan. And given that you’d be trading several of these at a point of low value, why bother? You’re not going to get much now, and thus not much less if you do it later. Conversely, you might actually get more later if any of them have a good first half. Plus, if they have a good first half, they’ve also potentially addressed an existing need. And if so, the team may actually be in the race. And if any them has had a good first half, but the team isn’t in the race, there’s probably a higher level of urgency on the part of trade partners than there is now. And at that point, they can trade several of them and open the Falvey Levine Buffet to also include Gallo and others among the offerings. So add me to the “no” column.
  5. I hate buying vehicles. The 2004 Accord in the garage will hit 230,000 miles sometime this week. (I’ll save someone the keystrokes — yeah, you can call me Derek or Thad. ?)
  6. That’s six sentences from your last paragraph… …I agree with the first two, but I don’t think the Correa situation changed anything. I’m not saying I agree because I’m cynical toward the front office — I actually like the moves they’ve made (Farmer, Vazquez, even Gallo) and not made (signing a SS at the price they would have needed to make). I would have liked to see them bid higher on a couple relievers that have signed elsewhere, but I also don’t consider myself as smart as them and I don’t have all the information they do. Rather, I’m just saying I agree because that’s the nature of the beast when you’re a baseball fan (And in general, these principles mostly apply to life as well, but that’s a discussion for another Web site.). In my experience, assuming that the opposite of these will happen tends to lead to uncomfortable walking, since it usually means that my shorts are a little too tightly wound. …To the next three, I’ll just say, “Yes, for the reasons I just described.” …To the last, thanks for writing.
  7. Except that I think outbidding the deals the other three got would have been even sillier than offering Correa more.
  8. MLB Audio app -- $20 for the radio feed of all games for all teams, with no blackout restrictions.
  9. Though the average FA deal won't end up anywhere near 2.94 years. There will be very few new 3-year deals signed this winter. Most will be one year with a few twos.
  10. Maybe you were saying "moo" rather than "ohm"? As to your body not bending, my thoughts are that if God wanted us to be able to touch our toes, God would have put them on our knees.
  11. I saw you went to Garrett. Where did your father-in-law go?
  12. Here’s a “must see” when in New York: https://www.firstpizza.com Get a Clam Pie.
  13. “Have received interest” speaks to other teams doing their due diligence. I don’t have a problem with that, but it’s hardly news. I’d think it’s a bigger problem if the team has a rotation that other teams don’t have interest in.
  14. It's a little scary when I say that a few of us are dating ourselves with these references, and I'm including myself in the same age category as @USAFChief.
  15. Nah, it's an automatic, so I use my right foot on both pedals.
  16. Cool. I'll be 57 in a couple months, and I can hit 75 on the gun as well. I mean, I drive a 2004 Honda Accord, so it takes a few seconds to get there, but I can do it!
  17. I can't agree with the bolded statement strongly enough (and I'd welcome your repeating it in many comments sections!). I think the best we can do as fans and TD readers is to say, "I wish we would have,,," or "I think we should...," knowing that we are seeing through a glass darkly. I voted "no," but I did that without having anywhere close to a full understanding of the situation. Its corollary is that no decision is made in a vacuum. Choosing to not match (or more accurately, exceed) the Giants offer will have carryover effect on what they do and don't do elsewhere, just as matching or exceeding would have had carryover effect on what they do or don't do elsewhere. But it feels like we often (on TD, as in life) aren't able to fully take a step back and look at the entire picture.
  18. Opening Day isn't until March 30, folks.
  19. As implied above, the two main reasons Swanson isn’t Correa are that he ain’t gonna need $300M and he ain’t gonna need 13 years. Given the FO’s desire for flexibility, I’d still like to sign him. I like Farmer and I get that Lewis will be ready soon, but the ability to use Farmer at both SS and 3B, Lewis and Lee coming, and possibility of moving Swanson to 2B in a couple years when Polanco leaves are all valuable.
  20. Is this tweet from Dave?* *That was the name of the "source," right?
  21. In honor of the "trade," let's give the Dodgers first dibs on Dozier if he attempts a comeback.
  22. Me no likey the thought of a five (or even six) year commitment for Rodon. Using the MLBTR predictions, I'd rather have Kluber ($12M), Ottavino ($7M) and Rogers ($10M) than Rodon for $28M, particularly when none of the three would require a commitment of more than 2-3 years. Or Eovaldi ($17M), Ottavino ($7M) and either Fulmer or Chapman at $3M. (MLBTR has have Fulmer and Chapman outside their top 50, which points to low-dollar or minor league signings. If that's indeed the case, take both, aside from whatever else is happening.) Also, with the front office's penchant for tacking an option year on the back, doing that with any of these older guys gives them more flexibility going forward. "Flexibility" seems to be one of the FO's core values.* *As opposed to for me. On flexibility, I say, "If God wanted us to be able to bend down and touch our toes, God would have put them on our knees."
