  1. I'm guessing the Twins will go about 15-10 the rest of the year, maybe 17-8 at best. At 15-10 I'd guess they'll just miss qualifying for the 2nd Wild Card. At 17-8 they likely would make it in. The 4 games against the Angels will be key, since the Angels are near the Twins in the standings. The divisional games are less crucial.
  2. Wasn't the Berrios decision more about innings than service time?
  3. It appears that he has the right attitude toward the game. In the NFL, highly drafted WRs often seem to fail because they have the wrong attitude. They think that because they're highly drafted & very talented that the don't need to work hard. I was concerned about Sano after hearing about his attitude toward BP back in Spring Training & being more interested in hitting HRs in BP than actually working on his hitting skills. It appears that he shows maturity in his attitude & his desire to not just be a hitter who hits an HR or ends up walking back to the bench with a K in every plate appearance.
  4. Well written. Excellent article! I'm sure it will impact the casual fans, like myself, who read TD.
  5. Terry Ryan should be fired for all these bad contracts. Why couldn't the Twins have hired Dombrowski... These contracts are sunk costs now. If the players aren't performing, like Mauer, tell them you will either cut them outright or they can renegotiate their contract. The Hughes deal was terrible, as was the Suzuki contract.
  6. Why did his injury in 2010 end his time with the Giants?
  7. This is very good to hear. I hope he can continue to refine his pitch recognition & strike zone feel to reduce his K rate while continuing to have a high OBP due to walks.
  8. The Twins should not make desperation moves to try to reach the playoffs this year. Their focus should be on the development of their young players. Players like Sano, Buxton, Rosario, Vargas, Santana, Kepler, Berrios, etc should be kept at whatever level will best prepare them for success at the ML level. The coaching staff should focus on helping those players prepare for life as a potential everyday player on the Twins. And the FO should be figuring out what to do with Mauer, Plouffe & others who may not fit in the long-term picture.
  9. Sano might not be getting a lot of hits right now, but look at his OBP! I hope that he can continue to take walks at such a high pace. Imagine if he could hit .275 with a .400 OBP over 500+ ABs. That would provide a great upgrade offensively.
  10. Based on the energy & enthusiasm he brought to the team at the start of the season there was some indication that he would be a good influence for the younger players. Torii has been able to adapt over the years that he has played baseball & he should have some wisdom to impart to the young players. I wish the FO would think this way.
  11. On the Spanish broadcast yesterday Juan Berenguer was filling in for Tony Oliva. Juan & Alfonso Fernandez were talking about the Twins' slump since the ASG. Juan questioned the decisions of some of the players to go & party in Vegas or other places during the break or flying back to Latin America to visit family instead of staying home to rest. I don't recall if he named specific players or not, but he was pretty harsh in his criticism of some of the younger players not taking the days off to rest.
  12. And this would be a terrible decision. Torii should be hired as a coach after this season, not as a player. If he wants to play then he should go somewhere else. If he truly cares about the Twins then he should be humble enough to recognize that his value is as a mentor & coach, not as a terrible fielding RF.
  13. Perkins is playing with fire walking Santana...
  14. Duffey sure didn't pitch well tonight
  15. The Twins seem to be doing quite well this year against LHP, I imagine that Hicks big difference is a part of it. He seems to be playing well. I like the idea of Rosario, Buxton, Hicks against LHP next year and Arcia, Buxton, Rosario against most RHP.
  16. Who are these minor leaguers? I've never heard of either of them.
  17. Can we get rid of Mauer & let Kepler play 1B?
  18. Could he go back to SS? Then you could put Sano at 3B and that would fix the SS problem.
  19. I think the time zone change is a factor.
  20. The Twins should be sellers right now. They are not going anywhere in the playoffs this year, if they even make it. Why would you throw away prospects for a rental player? The only deal that makes any sense is trading away prospects for a talented MLB player who has a team friendly contract. Otherwise just stick with the prospects.
  21. AA to figure out how to play better defense & hit consistently.
  22. I was very pessimistic about the Torii Hunter signing before the season started. I'm glad to see that he has had such a positive impact in the clubhouse. I hope that the Twins will offer him a job as a coach after this season to keep him around the clubhouse while allowing the youngsters to play RF instead of Torii.
