  1. I am highly skeptical of this rumor. Personally if i was the Twins i would have jumped all over such a deal even with the pending decision on Darvish. In fact it could have been pitched to Darvish that the Twins are going for it and trying to make a run. Trading for Cole and signing Darvish would instantly make this team's rotation one of the better ones in the AL. Even if Cole is only signed two more years it still gives them a great rotation option at an affordable rate (although he will be arb 1 & 2 over the next two seasons). Then you make a pitch to extend him at the end of 2019 if you wish.
  2. one thing is for certain if the big name free agents hold out for a few more weeks it's going to be a mad dash to the finish line by spring training. Darvish is holding things up. Until he moves no-one else moves.
  3. I would say hard pass if he gets higher than 6/165. Anything more than that is just absurd. I would much rather go after two lower level guys like Lynn and Cobb who are going to produce good results but be one hell of a lot cheaper. My fear is that Darvish is going to cost much closer to 6/200 and may even demand a seventh year depending on how badly the Astros, Yankees and Cubs want him, which would be utterly ludicrous. That is WAY out of the Twins price range IMO and i'd say pass and not think twice about it. Let them nuke it out for him and max themselves out in the process. If the Twins are going to spend that kind of money go after Kershaw in 2019. He's already getting paid 33 million a year. Question about Darvish's world series troubles. Didn't the Astros figure out he was tipping pitches which is part of the reason he was hit so hard? Not making excuses just asking the question.
  4. Was waiting for someone to post this. I think Thorpe and Littell deserve an honorable mention. Both pitched well in 2017.
  5. I understand the reluctance due to the money likely involved. However, I'd much rather the Twins sign a free agent then trade multiple top prospects at this juncture for one starter. They could sign Darvish and get halfway through the season and then decide they need something else to push themselves over the top. Having those chips still will give them flexibility in case they feel they need one more piece such as another starter or closer. I would rather hang onto Gordon, Gonsalves, Thorpe, Romero, Lewis, etc. at this point. Paying 6 or 7 years 150+ million for Darvish does not scare me so much due to the fact that so much is coming off the payroll in 2019. The Twins have the flexibility. However, i wouldn't be opposed to having Lynn and or Cobb as an alternative to going all in on Darvish. Darvish Santana Berrios Gibson Meija, Gonsalves, May or Lynn Santana Berrios Gibson Meija, Gonsalves, May
  6. If i recall he reduced the number of sinkers later on in the season. I reserve judgement on Gibson. Let's see a complete season of good pitching from him. He has yet to do that in his career. It's almost always been the same story of starting really poorly and finishing strong.
  7. I'm watching Thorpe,Littell, Gonsalves (assuming he doesn't make the MLB team this year) and Rooker.
  8. MLBtraderumors is reporting that Alex Cobb is asking for 20 million a year. That's pretty high for a guy that has never come close to 200 innings in one season or 30+ starts.
  9. If the Twins want Archer it's going to cost them A FORTUNE in prospects to get him and i say PASS. The Rays would want Lewis, Romero, Thorpe, Gonsalves, Gordon possibly Rosario in some combination. No way what i'd consider giving up that much talent for one pitcher.
  10. Interesting idea. However aren't teams required to make a "qualifying offer" once a player has spent 6+ years with a team and that offer is the average of the top 125 players in the game (well over 2.84 million)? Maybe this only applies to free agents and not contract renegotiations, would be interesting to find out. I gotta imagine the players union would freak out on a deal like this.
  11. Again what are you talking about and who are you talking too? What do you mean that is not what the article said? Are you sure your not thinking about message #72 in this thread because that user was using the phrases balk and balking and discussing some of the things your saying in more detail. What i said was quick and to the point and I paraphrased what Steve said. I never claimed to have quoted him but i guess i have to now. MLBtraderumors Steve Adam's Article "Twins Interested In Trevor Rosenthal" "Minnesota has shown no inclination to spent upwards of $9MM on multi-year deals for relievers and doesn’t love the idea of going to six years on Yu Darvish" Also balk DOES HAVE an illegality meaning in baseball terms as in pitcher balk.
  12. I think that would be a good offseason for them because Cobb and Lynn would be significant upgrades and while it wouldn't be quite as sexy as say signing Ohtani or Darvish it would certainly improve the Twins chances in 2018 and i'm all for it if they can't work it out with Darvish. But the reverse could also be true. If they do nothing this offseason and by nothing sign no significant quality starting pitching for 2018 you WILL have to admit that they look like "pretenders " with all the talk of being dead serious about going after upper end starting pitching. That's why a lot of us have been saying "i'll believe it when i see it," because it's not like the Twins to do this (talk big about signing ace caliper top of the rotation starters and then follow through and actally do it). Again, i would be thrilled if they did.
  13. Yeah my thoughts exactly. Drew Smyly Doesn't Pineda fit that bill already? Doesn't matter now as the Cubs signed him, but still pretty weird.
  14. With all due respect what are you talking about? You repeatedly say BALK & BALKING which implies illegality or hesitation which i never said. Are you sure your replying to the right post? What I said initially in that post was EXACTLY what mlbtraderumors stated in that they (Twins) don't like the idea of going six years on Darvish. Again re-read what i posted. The rest of it was sarcasm followed by an emoji. And like or not they struck out on Ohtani whether people accept that or not because they stated it was a high priority to woo him to Minnesota and GUESS WHAT? IT DIDN'T WORK OUT! And despite similar happy talk it now appears possible that the could very well miss on Darvish given their stated reluctance to go six years + on Darvish which i'm sure the Astros, Cubs, Rangers will easily and willing throw at him, so i'm not sure what your angst against my initial post is. As far as i can tell there were no rules violations so i'm not sure what you are getting at.

  16. Is there a source or is this intuition? Not criticizing, but was hoping to read if anything was said about this meeting.
  17. As do I. I fear they are all talk but at the end of the day it's backed up by nothing. What's worse? Talking the talking and making promising claims and not following through (Falvey & Levine) or not saying anything and not driving up expectations (Ryan regime). You make your choice but i know which i prefer.
  18. Yep. I just read on mlb rumors that he is asking for 6+ years and the Twins don't want to do that. There's the excuse folks. SO what's plan C? Ohtani, Darvish.....strike one, strike two......Lynn anyone? You wait, they are gonna enter spring training with basically the same rotation as last season minus Colon while saying "we tried really hard". Ps....Colon has been in contact with the FO
  19. Well Darvish just met with the Astros after meeting with the Cubs.
  20. Well he just met with the Astros after meeting with the Cubs. Better hope Falvey and Levine line up a meeting with him or they could miss out.
  21. I disagree on Rodney. The guy is 41 years old. I want a younger pitcher hands down.
  22. Well the Tribune is saying they (Twins) have yet to make an offer to Darvish but are becoming increasingly optimistic in getting Darvish even though it's unlikely he makes a decision for the next four weeks. Whatever all that means. In addition Kintzler was open to returning to the Twins but they never made an offer to him and instead chose to sign Rodney. I don't get it. http://m.startribune.com/twins-are-still-part-of-the-yu-darvish-sweepstakes/464689953/?interstitial=true I still think they are blowing smoke and will come up empty handed but hope i'm wrong.
  23. Doesn't stop Joe Mauer from doing it. He lives in Florida the entire offseason.
