  1. My favorite straw man in the budget discussions. No one is saying FA is more important than drafting and developing well.
  2. You think they will admit that, even if true?
  3. so, never sign FAs, is that your argument? I just want to understand.....Are you saying it is better to sign massive deals, that will NOT expire by the time you have to pay Sano and Buxton, that's better, more likely? If they extend Perkins, I'll be shocked, btw.
  4. so I won't read "there wasn't anyone good to sign, it was a terrible class" all off season next year?
  5. BTW, next year's FA class, when the Twins supposedly will be competitive, so they should sign FAs? One of, if not the, worst FA classes ever. Built. In. Excuse.
  6. Plus, it's always a moving goalpost for when they will be good, as Hunter or Santana once said, this team always plays for the future, a future which never comes. 2 years ago, I was told 2 years. Last year, I was told 2-3 more years. Now, this (very well written, btw) article says, 2 more years.....
  7. Kind of a self-fulfilling prophecy, isn't it? We won't be good, so let's not try to be good, see, we couldn't be good!......... There has never been a time I've come here, when people didn't say "there are all these reasons not to spend money, and the Twins are right not to, and they aren't cheap, even though we just paid millions to increase their revenue for them through taxes"......when do we read "the Twins are contenders, and they should be spending money on legit, big time, players to fill holes"?
  8. Year......number of players to hit 40 HR 2015......9 2014......1 2013.......2 2012......6 Predicting anyone to hit 40 seems a bit optimistic, imo. That said, I think Sano will be in that group more than 1 year of his career. I'm just not sure I can say which years with any certainty. That's kind of how projections work. It is likely that Sano will hit 40 in 1 or more years, but in any 1 year, it is not likely......
  9. Agreed, of course we can explain more and more, but that also shows us how much cannot actually be explained, and why, imo, sports has such appeal. It isn't like chess where the best player is almost always going to win......there is luck for sure.
  10. That part of my post, about math not being real, was aimed at a lot of people, not you...... It is, of course, possible that it isn't luck, and something we can't account for, but then, you'd think it would be repeatable.
  11. That SP squad could be dominant, but they just won't spend money on hitters. I think they'll be perennially disappointing overall.
  12. if it's real, why isn't it repeatable? If a manager can help a team win 6 more games than they should, isn't that worth like 20-30MM dollars a year to a team? Every time we have these discussion, it is clear some people just don't believe in math, but never put up a better way to project or predict standings. Never. 6/162=4%. Do you have a system that will be less inaccurate than that? Are you sure that's actually all that inaccurate?
  13. Small chance, imo, Buxton hits 15 homeruns next year, and I'll take the under on Escobar also.
  14. 2 pages on a guy CLE didn't sign.......maybe you should start a Chris Davis thread. All I know is that if I was a Tribe fan, I'd be disappointed they didn't buy a bat or two, Even minor upgrades. Next year's class is awful.
  15. Where is the evidence he can, because that's how this whole conversation started. Oh, and you can't use stats.....
  16. someone typed "perkins is good at getting LHB out".....then there were stats shown that is not true.......so, if we can't go by performance, because of not enough innings, why should I think the is good at getting lefties out? What evidence do you offer that he is good at it?
  17. If he's still having issues that are interfering with his production, he should retire, both for his own health, and the for the good of the team. Frankly, I don't care about the team compared to him as a person.
  18. but he wasn't last year, when they needed a LOOGY......does not compute.....
  19. I remain baffled that Rogers wasn't up as a LOOGY last year.......do they not plan for these things, or are they going to keep him a starter that is 9th in line to start? Rogers, imo, should be the LOOGY, who can also face righties better than most LOOGIES can, but they didn't do that last year, so who knows. Other than that, the options outside the "known" 4 look kind of bleak, unless they just throw the youth out there and let them learn/grow in MN.
  20. And, ironically, it is someone arguing against winning at all costs, I think......
  21. I like posts that are good, sometimes (often) even ones I disagree with. That's not an "agree" button.
  22. I've never typed "the only way to be successful is to win the WS", so I'm not sure what this post means......I am not trying to have it both ways.....
  23. I guess we'll never agree on this point, which is cool with me. Have a great day.
  24. so, as posted above, then, Ryan has never had a successful year? Only winning the WS is considered a success? That's an awful way to go through life, imo.
