  1. kind of like giving away Dozier to make room for Polanco.
  2. Which of these is a natural talent, vs a skill that can really be taught/improved on? Pitch recognition Patience Ability to hit to the opposite field (or pull it) as dictated by location I really don't know. Are there examples of guys striking out this much, then becoming good?
  3. Seth thinks he's getting a short vacation since he participated in the ASG. Now, is that true of others that participated? I am not sure.....
  4. I think the results speak for themselves, something is not quite right. My guess is that it is a combination of things, not any one thing. The main point of the OP is right on, though. No matter how highly a guy is ranked, we just don't know until they succeed or fail.....
  5. Has any team ever traded away 4 guys from their MLB team at deadline? Four seems like a lot.
  6. Ah, got it......it seemed like people were blaming Smith for their not being trade-able assets when he was gone....that would be almost impossible to be his fault..... I think Perkins would have netted something nice. That's the one that sticks in my craw* * not that I know the etymology of that one....
  7. Who ran the FO when they "built" that team of players that wasn't there to trade? Not Smith.....he inherited that team.
  8. If there were no young players close (or in the majors)....and it takes 4 years to develop......and Smith was in charge for less time than that.....who was the GM when those young players should have been close, that had a farm system with nothing to show for it?
  9. Besides Sano, Kepler, Polanco, Gibson, and others, you mean, right?
  10. Great stuff as always! Thanks to both sides for doing this.
  11. Ryan said his future is in RF....what about this year? Is this year the future? I have no idea how to parse that statement.
  12. And how do you, or anyone, know what is or is not going on his head? It seems you and others are jumping to a conclusion that we really can't make......
  13. We'll have to disagree on Santana looking like he broke through, many people here did not think that had happened. I do agree, neither look like a good option right now.
  14. Or, you know.....3 days on, 1 day off, for Kepler, and for Park....then everyone gets relatively consistent at bats. This stems from: 1. His lost year last year, he lost Molitor, imo. 2. The signing of Park, and the non-trade of Plouffe. 3. The irrational love of Danny Santana, who can't hit, and is a below average to terrible fielder (depending on position). 4. The inability to rotate players for some reason. 5. A refusal to PH for Suzuki or other players late in games. 6. Arcia something.....this is on both the team and the player, but since I don't see him day to day, I can't say what his issues are....
  15. Well, a few hundred K over is a nice baby step in changing culture I guess. I like they went HS, frankly, though next year, I want the college catcher I think* *tons can change in a year.....
  16. It's very important Danny Santana be up here and playing, and Polanco be in AAA during his last option year, on a team that is neither young, nor good.....
  17. To be clear, I don't think there is room for him on this roster, hence my other thread......but the lack of room for a young player (and this team is NOT young....) on a terrible team....that's on the GM. Keeping him on the roster this long, if they didn't want him on the roster, that's on the GM. Now, finally deciding to move on from a guy you don't want (see last year's insistence on keeping a guy around on a contending team, only to cut him this year), well, that's progress at least.
  18. He was the worst player in MLB last year.....how is that "adequate" exactly?
  19. the mistake was burning options on him, and then not giving him consistent playing time when he was here, imo. I fail to see how Molitor most advantageously used him by never PHing for Suzuki......next you'll tell me he has used Polanco correctly....
  20. This is cool, thanks to both for the interview.
  21. I think everyone agrees with that first paragraph for sure.
  22. This was inevitable, when they kept Plouffe and moved Sano after signing a DH...... Now, I wouldn't do it to keep Santana around, but for some reason they are in love with him.
