  1. Ah.i thought he was older than that. Dang, he's going to cost a lot.
  2. I actually think they are going: 6/144 with Darvish. Those last two years will suck....but the first four will hopefully be worth it.
  3. just like the minor leaguers... most will be injured or bad. See last year. I like some of the internal guys, I was calling for them to be promoted faster, or moved to RP faster, than Ryan or this FO did. But, I don't see a lot of needle movers. Maybe Jay, but counting on him to be healthy seems like a pretty risky bet.
  4. No, they signed old players last year, to flyers, and also relied on teh guys they had, plus they added a bad rule V pick. This is deja vu.
  5. I also remember many saying signing old, not good, players, and relying on the guys they had wouldn't fix the bullpen, and it didn't. People love to point out how not signing FAs is great, but rarely look at how well relying only on internal options works, or doesn't.
  6. Klaw on his insider on teh rule V: Burdi offered the best combination of future value ad potential not to screw up your current roster. nothing on the Twins' pick.
  7. To be clear, signing a guy coming off tommy john, that won't pitch this year maybe=good. Signing any RP to a two year deal = bad. Is that the argument people are making? Pineda is a great signing, but signing any of the RPs this year for two years is bad?
  8. I agree, if he's hte 2nd best RP they acquire, it will be meh, rather than annoying.
  9. two years for a good RP is somehow that much worse than 1 year of a mediocre, old, one?
  10. Blech. I don't know why people care about it being cheap. For another 2MM a year they could have had a good RP. Why do people care it was cheap? They had a bad bullpen last year, and they are pretty much doubling down on last year's strategy. Cheap old veteran and rule V pick....
  11. Or he could take up a roster spot for half the year, with the manager refusing to use him.....
  12. Rodney? Yuck. Gotta admit, given their signings last year, and last year's rule V pick.....not a fan of the FO and their approach to RP at all. Hope to be wrong....
  13. How does that work compared to relying solely on the minors? You need relief pitchers.....
  14. I just want a short leash this time. He's either worth a playoff team keeping around for sure, or cut him. He's nearly 27, it's not like he's young and has 2-3 years to figure it out. Me? I kind of hoped they'd add major league pitching this year......
  15. The relief pitcher article. It states, and some have agreed, they should mostly rely in internal options, and maybe sign a cheap flyer or two...The same opinion expressed last year, actually. It's not like I am alone in my opinion on that thread, Chief has posted in there echoing this thought about that thread.
  16. Or, they don't spend as much next year on good players, in the hope he is good, and he's not. We have entire threads on not spending six million on a relief pitcher, let alone eight .. Let's hope the team isn't as conservative with it's money as many here think they should be.
  17. Or, the Rays could just take Kohl Stewart in the upcoming draft for free.... I'd think Archer would cost two of their top pitching prospects, whatever hitter the Rays wanted, and one more mid tier player. Me? No way Jay is on that list if I'm the Rays. I take Gonsalves, the AA pitcher they most want, Lewis, and Kiriloff. Archer is practically signed for free, compared to what a pitcher of his quality costs.
  18. Hannah Hochevar 1:58 I like both, but do you prefer Smyly or Pineda for TJ return? Eno Sarris 1:58 Smyly had a crappier, longer injury history going in, so I guess that's an argument for Pineda. But Pineda had labrum surgery way back when, so I'll take Smyly.
  19. Probably.... Not sure what that has to do with tying up money or not. It's money. Already spent. On an injured player. I find it fascinating the response, given other threads. Nothing more or less. Like I said, I like it. But then, I think the Twins have plenty of money to spend.
  20. Not in the relief pitcher thread..... People are typing they'd rather only sign flyers than pay market rates. This is market rate for a relief pitcher. I find it a fascinating signing. Really not what the old guard would do. Assuming it doesn't stop them from spending elsewhere, I think I like it.
