  1. One more thing.....if they do this, the manager needs to be on board, and, you know, actually use the players rather than bench them....
  2. Well, the point is there are sites that analyze injury impact across MLB, at least one I posted here, that showed the Twins were about median for injury effect (it probably did not include Polanco).......
  3. giving the team little, if any, useful information, I'd guess.
  4. They are out of it....they should be looking at the young guys, and getting them MLB experience...IMO, of course. Well, Belisle could be gone, that would be strategic....how about Morrison, why keep him around at this point? That's 2....and it wasn't hard.
  5. Buxton, followed closely by Sano. I'm not sure how anyone else could be the choice, frankly.
  6. I think Miami extends him, btw. Which, I'm not sure they should do, as they NEED more talent.
  7. Should they be trading off anyone not signed past 2019? I assume you don't think they are real competitors next year either. I could understand and accept that path, as I've said in this thread.
  8. If they are hot in teh first half of next year, that's enough evidence they should now go for it and build around them? Or, longer? I guess I would want more than half a year from Buxton to have any certainty at all, given what he's done in his career. But that could just be me, for sure.
  9. I too have doubts, plus his defense (if he has a position) is a major issue, imo. But, he looks like he can hit some, and that's always good. But, the Ks....they are a concern.
  10. Isn't that what I said? I don't get your point with this post..... yes, they should pick a path now, because Gibson has A LOT more value now than he does in 12 months. and, yes, if you wait until you "know" if Sano and Buxton are good or not, you've burned more of the window waiting to know..... I'm not sure what isn't clear there. Either assume they are good, and act that way, or assume they aren't, and act that way. It really only impacts the Odo and Gibson decisions (assuming you are dealing any 18 FAs) and maybe ESan....on the sell side....but it really changes things if you are on the buy side. Of course, they can wait for the off season to add players if they want.....with the up and downside that everyone has more information on the value (or lack thereof) of the prospects being dealt. But, if you pick to add, then are picking NOT TO TRADE Odorizzi or Gibson right now.....and not ESan either. So, ya, waiting is an opportunity cost, and decreases the value of Gibson for sure. I don't think anything in this post is controversial.....
  11. Been pretty clear that I'd only do this if you believe in the Sano / buxton window. fixing those other things takes time....considerable time. So, as I said above....pick a path.
  12. yes, people have been saying over and over that they would not deal "the farm" for an elite player unless they were the missing piece. Sure, there is a difference between a pitcher and a catcher and individual games, it's why we have WAR and other measures.....so we can sort of get an idea of relative value. No catcher catches more than about 120 times in a year......more like 100 or so for a lot of them....and in that time, JT puts up more WAR than most hitters and pitchers, then you add the WAR from your backup, and you have a huge advantage on other teams. That, imo, is the goal. To be better than other teams at more positions than you are behind. The secondary goal is to be less behind where you are behind. It is very reasonable to say the price is too high in context of this particular team. It is also, imo, reasonable to say that acquiring him is part of an overall plan to be great during Buxton's and Sano's time here. It is also reasonable to politely disagree on either side of that.
  13. Who said anything about deciding on the FO already? I pointed out that if you aren't going to acquire outside elite players, you have to be elite at drafting and developing....and that the TWins haven't been. I am assuming everyone here knows that the FO changed recently.
  14. How many elite pitchers are there, and don't they only play 30-35 games? And, I'm not saying your opinion is wrong, btw..... since they didn't do this at the beginning of the year, I'm less interested than I was (also, since Sano and Buxton have been so bad this year). But, most of the arguments I read against read like they should never deal for elite players unless they are one player away, no matter how much control the player has....which is a great way to never add elite players (especially since they are wholly unlikely to ever outbid anyone for an elite FA either). As I've said since I came here.....if you won't sign elite FAs, and you won't trade for elite MLB players, you have to be one of the best drafting and developing systems there is to compete....and their record their is not top 5 by any means....
  15. Isn't a two way elite player always a luxury? I'm not sure I understand that part of your argument. As for "only" 121 games......he still puts up 5 WAR....now add in 1 WAR from your backup....and in the AL he can DH some when resting. The cost? That's a legit argument, but the "luxury" part, I'm not sure I understand that part. You can win a division w/o a lot of things....and you can lose even with a stud OF or 3B.....the goal is to have more great players at any position.
  16. 2017 is his best year in years...... Here is where he is over the last 2.5 years among first baseman with at least 500 ABs over that time (200 per year) since the number of qualifiers is too low to be meaningful: 18th in the majors - remember, that includes his best year in years Adding in 2015,,,,, 20th. that's WAR, so it includes defense. Taking out defense: Mauer is 46th among 1B in offense since 2015.... 31st in offense only since 2016
  17. Some great prospects for sure. The pitching depth seems so much better than in the past, imagine if Stewart or Jay were doing better... Thanks for the great coverage of the minors!
  18. All Wade does is hit. And steal some bases (not many, but some). And play defense. big fan.
  19. Of course they count, but they aren't particularly predictive. and, they are on pace for 110-120 losses, so, not an exaggeration. Historically bad. The next worst teams have won 50% more games than they have.
  20. The Twins beat up on 2 of the historically worst teams in MLB history.....I hope the FO isn't fooled by that.
  21. I don't suppose any of the crack reports asked why McGill is on the roster, and not being used....say, ever, or in a blow out? I am baffled by this....
  22. I'm done. It's almost like we are ignoring all the posts here. Enjoy.
