  1. It's cold comfort, but the same Yankees players who burned the Twins in the WC game also burned Cleveland in Game 5 last night.
  2. 1. Pickler to Grossman: "Go stand where I told you, about 5 to 10 feet from the foul line, and only chase balls towards the line. Don't chase anything hit further into the field of play." Sounds about right. I think it can work. 2. Makes too much sense. If the bat barrel (or any of the bat) enters the strike zone, call it a swing. Perfectly fair. I think there would be many more check swing strikes. My gut sense tells me that batters get more leeway than they deserve. Maybe more strikes means faster games, for the "make games faster" crowd. 3. Ugly 4. Unfortunate. Wasn't there a fifth? Asking for a friend.
  3. I love the No Surrender story in San Diego. I softened on Molly over time. He seems to have the pulse of the team, and I don't know if another manager could have gotten them to the postseason this year. The FO has bigger fish to fry (pitching) than conducting a new manager search, or worse, installing the manager candidate they had in mind when they took the job. They were wrong about the team once already when they sold at the deadline. Just my opinion.
  4. Agree. Yes.
  5. On a less cynical note, this should tip people off as to why players slide into first base. Because they can run all out 100% without having to worry about striking the bag in stride, if their stride is off. Hosmer did this in the Game 7 a few years ago and everyone said Hosmer was a dummy. Even Bill Nye got it wrong that night. This is why Dozier and Punto slid into first base. Giving 100% to get there. More players should do it on more plays, not just the Granite type of play. Sorry. I'll get off my soapbox.
  6. A whole new generation of Twins players learning to be afraid of the Yankees. Oh, joy.
  7. The infield was playing in on Buxton in the first. A bunt most likely would have resulted in Escobar being thrown out at home. And Castro would still have struck out.
  8. I don't think he is a great in game manager either, but he's not the worst, either. I guess I hope he stays. If the FO decides to go another direction than Molitor, they will really be raising expectations for next year, which would not be a bad thing.
  9. I'm just worried that guys like Rosario and Escobar had their best seasons, and maybe Mauer doesn't keep it going. Still will be a great lineup but they need pitching.
  10. He is ordinary, but gets a lot of praise. Not just here on TD. Just wondering why. Yes, getting good pitchers is more important than replacing Castro.
  11. Erv threw that low and away slider to Judge in the first inning, unfortunately Judge dumped it into center for a single.
  12. That was... you? Why, that's... http://onemansblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/05/inconceivable.jpg
  13. I think someone teed up an "Inconceivable!" earlier, but no one took a swing at it
  14. Thanks--this is a much brighter statement I can come up with right now
  15. I'm glad Castro has his cheerleaders, but in an important game he disappears. I'd like to hear more about the data or leadership qualities he possesses. Not saying he doesn't have those qualities, but really, give us some information to think about instead of the cheerleading, if he is going to be our catcher the next two years.
  16. Thanks. I would have tried to get 5 from Santana, also.
  17. No. I'm Wink Martindale, and this has been another edition of Easy Questions, Easy Answers! http://winkmartindale.org/wp-content/uploads/2016/09/wink-martindale-ySuit-11.jpg
  18. Somehow, that is correct. Worth watching until the end, even though....
  19. If you want nine pitch innings, go be a fan of fast pitch softball
  20. Maybe the Yankees could challenge that play at first and have it reversed
