  1. If Sano hadn't hit that so hard, Escobar might have been able to score from first. Interesting Fox North camera showed Glynn was waving Escobar home, but Escobar was running to second so saw the ball in front of him when it was hit, and he knew he would have been nailed if he tried to score. UPDATE Plouffe grounded out to end inning so didn't matter
  2. Me Too!!! This may foreshadow something..... (or maybe not)
  3. Quick! What's the count on Escobar! *ba-dum*
  4. P-Dog Diddley "Pelf-Dog" Diddy, surrenders 4th run of inning, loses out on a quality start.
  5. Come on Pelfrey, cripe's sake. Pretend you started the inning with a 6 run lead or something.
  6. The Twins would simultaneously cut him and put him back at catcher.
  7. I'm guessing you'd also require that that guy also break bats over his knee?
  8. It's a fine line, for sure. But what Kansas City does is straight up retaliation, unfortunately.
  9. I wonder if pitching inside can really be taught. It's not for everyone. Sure you can call for inside pitches. It might be more of a personality trait though, to throw brushbacks at the appropriate time, bust a guys hands or take back ownership of the inside part of the plate when you feel you might lose it. Not sure. It's been a long time since the Twins have done it well.
  10. Here's what I anticipate the lineups to be: CLEVELAND: SS Rubio 2B Walker CF J. Bush DH Trump RF Cruz 1B Paul 3B Kasich LF Carson C Christie P Megyn Kelly MINNESOTA 1B Clinton 2B Clinton SS Clinton 3B Clinton LF Clinton CF Clinton RF Clinton C Clinton DH Bernie Sanders
  11. I like the suggestion of letting Buxton rehab in Rochester as long as possible. For all his speed, he's not ready to help the offense yet.
  12. I think some teams ruin it for others. A team like the San Francisco Giants has been to 3 World Series and mostly with guys they've drafted themselves. Cain, Lincecum, Bumgarner, Jonathan Sanchez, Brian Wilson, Sergio Romo, Volgelsong, others I'm sure who are also coming up through the system that aren't household names yet.
  13. Overall I like it, but who did we trade Plouffsie for? I didn't hear about this
  14. Well written article but I disagree. Especially with the timing. The time to look back and say "meh, wouldn't have made a difference anyway" is in the offseason. The guys in the clubhouse were expecting reinforcements. Twins have an opportunity this year they weren't expecting, and the front office has so far pooched it. The team now needs to get out of Toronto ASAP and try and regroup to make a second go at this thing. The front office can still help if they want.
  15. No, we are not cutting Hunter. I'm also not necessarily arguing for Robinson's continued employment. Robinson could provide a lot more value to this team than the 8th reliever (which ever one is considered 8th, nobody knows anymore). What we lose in a bench bat option, we might gain back with experience and speed on the bases and a guy who knows how to steal second late in the game. Molitor doesn't seem to pinch hit anyway, so the concept of an additional bench bat is almost beside the point to me. Robinson also plays outfield well and should sub in for Arcia. I'm not saying Robinson should be the DH or that he should get a start any more often than every week or two, or when someone needs a blow.
  16. Shane Robinson and Oswaldo Arcia can exist together on the same roster, with Robinson as a late inning pinch runner and outfield substitute for Arcia when necessary.
  17. Calling up Miguel Sano (3-4 weeks too late IMO) and getting Ervin Santana back from suspension can arguably serve the same purpose as making a trade. You are improving your team with better players you didn't previously have. Also removing Santana from shortstop improves the team appreciably (sorry Santana lovers). That's another thing that was done 6 weeks too late. But the bullpen stuff is really a disappointment, to put it mildly.
  18. It feels like we are revising our estimations of Hu after the fact. I'm not predicting anything here, but the writers on this site had him Top 20 and Top 15 as the season wore on, a couple of our bloggers had him higher than that. These are the guys I presume follow Twins prospects more closely than the national stringers (I could be wrong). To me, TD rankings are more reliable than MLB or industry rankings. I don't mind trading Hu but I would not dismiss the idea that he might have been a borderline Top 10 prospect heading into 2016 if things had worked out a little different. With the proximity of Tampa Bay's offices to Fort Myers and other Florida League towns, I'd also bet Hu was scouted adequately enough. Hu surely has flaws but no doubt the Rays also think they can do something with him. They have a good record developing pitchers.
  19. The fourth inning was very RISPy, starting with a lead off double, which developed into a bases-loaded, none out situation. It did not end well.
  20. Well said SD Buhr. The post season now includes the wild card game, which is great for TV and not going away anytime soon. KC is emerging as the class of the American League and will be hard to defeat the next few seasons. The Twins need to take the wild card berth seriously, and not as a gimmick or a waste of effort to make a deadline deal for one single game. In fact, this is a season when the AL wild card game will have one or both teams with fewer than 90 wins, so it's maybe even a greater reason to take a shot this year than wait.
  21. I also don't think Mauer should get a day off against a tough pitcher like Price.
