  1. Isn't that what Kansas City did to get James Shields? They gave up their top rated minor league hitter for an "Ace" when they thought they were on the verge of returning to contention.
  2. I would partially agree. His first step is not super quick. His feet don't look very light when he runs. Once he gets moving he's pretty fast, but it takes a bit to get up to speed. I will say, he doesn't have the Trevor Plouffe lead feet. That guy really picks them up and puts them down. How he made it up as a shortstop is beyond me. His feet look like they're made of bricks. I have been impressed with Joe's diving plays at 1st the past month. I do think he's settling in over there. To end this, I think Joe would look better in the OF than most of the OF's we've run out there this year. Maybe not right away, but he'd figure it out.
  3. I was looking up the upcoming Vanderbilt vs. Louisville college world series match-up and found this nice little video. "Louisville's Nick Burdi 'pissed' about draft." Apparently he didn't think too highly of dropping to the second round. He says the Twins are getting one of the most determined players in the draft. The young man is ready to play. There's a chance to seem him this Saturday at 8pm on ESPN2's coverage of the CWS. You should also get a chance to see Tyler Beede (#14 Giants) and Kyle Funkhouser (13-2, 1.73 ERA, 2015 draft eligible), both of which are very good pitchers. Go Vandy! I still hope to see Burdi pitch, just not in a save situation.
  4. I just heard on the radio broadcast that Mitch Moreland is out for 6 months after having ankle surgery. Morales can play some 1B. What if the Twins were to flip Morales to the Rangers for a prospect? Worth it?
  5. The Tigers are about to play the White Sox, Twins, Royals, and then Cleveland. By June 22nd we should have a pretty good idea of who the better AL Central teams are by comparing them to the current leader. Here's to hoping that a healthy lineup of dozier, mauer, willingham, arcia, morales, and plouffe great the Tigers with some bombs!
  6. I just check his current stats at milb and over the last 10 games his BA was higher than his OBP. I'm guess one sacrifice and ZERO walks over 10 games. It's hard to argue with a .390 BA, 10 game hitting streak (could be longer), 5 HR, and 15 RBI's...but ZERO walks in 10 games? Seems strange. Maybe teams will adjust after his recent outburst and things will trend back towards normal.
  7. I think I fail to recognize this thing called "hype." If they don't have it, they're worth nothing. If they got it, sell everyone else.
  8. Kris Johnson - I don't get the hate. Left who can hit 93-94. Killing AAA. Barely got a cup of coffee with the Pirates. He's older for a prospect. So what. Stick him in the bullpen and maybe he hits 97 a la Perkins. Nunez - seems to have done well in his limited role. No complaints. Pelfrey - paid through next year. Hopefully he heals and is worth something. Swarzak - only if there's something better available. Again, no complaints. Herrmann - gotta back up Pinto with someone. He's got D. He looks better in the OF than most our OF's. I saw him correctly set up for a throw one game. There are lots of fringe guys. It happens on a 40-man. I still think there's a few guys worth something in that mix.
  9. Updating Here's to hoping for a home sweep of the Brew Crew. Two of the losses to the rangers were one run. Too bad one of those couldn't have gone the other way. I'll just blame it on Kubel. It's hard for me to be mad at someone from South Dakota, but that guy is Killing me...with a capital K.
  10. - "I've got a fever and the only prescription is less Kubel" What about more cowbell?
  11. I went to the Red Wings box score this weekend to check May's stat line and realized that there's not a single position player on that team that I'd want playing with the Twins. The pitching staff is looking pretty nice though. I'm almost praying for an injury just so one of the guys can get a decent chance (we all know they won't get one otherwise).
  12. Previous 15 Games: 2-0 Padres 2-1 Mariners 2-1 Red Sox 2-1 Tigers 1-3 Indians I had that stretch plus the Dodgers and Orioles before it as a defining time period. Scouting reports on guys come out...batting averages start falling...pitches stop missing bats...team starts losing. Twins went 9-6. I'm converted. This team can play .500 ball. The Rangers are no longer scary. Yankees are also mediocre. The Twins can ball with those guys. I'll say 7-7.
  13. Parms is currently on a 1 for 17 streak dating back to May 14th, all on the homestand. Teams already adjusting to him? Seattle looked like they were busting him in a lot, something he likes to swing at but not hit much. BA is down to .242. I still don't think he has what it takes. A bigger leg kick won't help him hit an inside fastball.
  14. It did not. It's a rather short little read made to allow the mainstream to laugh at the debacle that is the Twins OF right now. Is it super thorough? No. Is it effective? Basically. You could nitpick it all you want (what the internet does), but it gets to the point. 1. The Twins starting staff can't strike anyone out. 2. The OF sucks...hard. No range and no glove. 3. The SP staff puts the ball in the air or the ground (obviously, based on #1), which is dumb based on #2. 4. The Twins have dealt with injury, using SS at OF...but the OF guys they do have suck at OF too. 5. The Twins did it to themselves. Specifically, the Bartlett situation. Morons. 6. You can pitch well or you can defend well...but if you can't do both...you're the Twins. This is a very short summary of the article. It is a decent read for most people, but most who frequent this site would be disappointed. Look up online for cheap or free (survey reward) subscriptions to ESPN the Mag. You can register your subscription and get insider access that way. 2 years for $9, worth it for me.
  15. Deduno has followed Pelfrey in 4 of 5 starts. The one game he didn't...Deduno pitched the day prior. Why don't we just switch their roles?
  16. I guess we'll find out if he is. He's officially made the team. We must have our sites site on the K record.
  17. Just announced that Twins informed Kubel he made the team.
  18. That's a cool video. Mr. Perkins seems like a fun guy to have around. Glen is a funny name without the Perkins behind it. It'd be cool it the fans could come up with a final strike of the game chant that integrates "Glen." Here we go, Glen, here we go Glen! Glen! Glen! Glen thing! You make my heart sing! You make... etc.
  19. I was left wondering if that double that went just over his head would've been caught if anyone else was out there. Granted it was hit pretty hard, but it just ate him up. People have been very optimistic about him, but I don't think he's ready. I don't think Kubel is going to cut it either. He's looked better at making contact than Arcia though, not that it's helped. Parmelee is probably the best defensively but his bat looks the same as the two others. Honestly, all three guys have the same build, similar arms, same inability to hit right now. Who plays RF? Talk about no one laying claim to a position.
  20. Thoughts: Dozier looked pretty good Pinto...tough day making good contact Arcia...same as Pinto, but from L side Colabello was ok. Still has holes, but better looking than last year Parmelee still likes to swing at down and in, still can't hit it Plouffe has no idea what a "get me over curve" looks like and that he should crush it Hicks still looks like a kid out there. Tying too hard. Florimon's two hits were just under the glove of SS and 1B. It didn't look like there was much fight out there. Pretty depressing to watch. The Phil's were having fun all over and smiling. No Twin smiled this day.
  21. Eduardo Escobar just took over in center. I can't tell who's in left. It might be Herrmann. It's definitely not Parms. Too skinny...and right handed. Bartlett is at 3rd I believe.
  22. I stopped using nexdef last year and just switched to using Chrome. It ran better that way. It's been working pretty well this year. I just watched the last game on my PS3, and that worked well. Mlb.tv app on android is looking good, but I have 4G so that helps. Hooters girl just gave the twins a ground rule double by making a nice play. I didn't think she knew how to use that glove.
  23. 8 of the 9 Phil's hits are on fastballs so far
  24. I will argue on the decision part for the first throw. It was so bad that the announcers thought they might get hit. Who knows what he was actually trying to do. Definitely trying hard to impress I think. 2nd throw was a team gaffe. It didn't seem like anyone was in the right position to receive the throw and potentially stop the hitter from advancing. 3rd throw was good. The Phil's pitcher is making the Twins look special ed. One person takes advantage of his mistakes and so he pulls out a pitch he hasn't used much to start eating people up. Curveball at first, 2 seam in on lefties next, and just now the changeup. Each time people have looked confused as to what just happened. The Phils hitters are starting to key in on Hugh's pitches. Things are getting hit hard. Stuff is getting left up. Curveballs getting overthrown. It's not promising. No adjustments on Hugh's part.
