  1. Mauer forgot to wear his night-sunglasses.
  2. I can live with game ending on an aggressive base running move.
  3. Isn't Dozier our steals leader?
  4. Fien's throwing darts right now...
  5. That sounds amazing. Someone needs to organize a 1st annual Twins Daily BBQ.
  6. For a more traditional Buffalo, you can cook up red jalepeno (green will work, but end up green) or whatever peppers you like, with vinegar, water, salt and garlic to taste, blend, force through a strainer, add melted butter. Pretty solid homemade wing sauce.
  7. There ya go Buxton. Visibly starting to relax.
  8. Despite our struggles, I'm still confident we can be a top 15 offense in the American League.... There's no proposed expansion this year right?
  9. "Sano is large, I don't like foreigners, when you've weathered as many wars, winters, and recessions as I have, you'll realize the worst move in franchise history wasn't Ortiz to the BoSox, it was some pitcher who left the team in 1965 and went on to be a pretty good carpet warehouse operator in the mid to late 70's."
  10. I believe Sano would go D) all of the above, and in fairness, so would I...
  11. The Great White Griffey.
  12. I don't doubt that Sano has the natural ability and athleticism to play the outfield, starting to wonder whether he's got the work ethic and nutritional acumen to make it work... yikes, btw. Remember when we compared him to Anthony Barr? Yeah, if he doesn't watch out, he'll be Bryant McKinney...
  13. Good: We didn't get blown out for the entire opening series without scoring a run like we did last year in Detroit.
  14. O'Day is nasty... Come on Joe.
  15. Hey Bill, when do you predict the weather clears so we can play little baseball game? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TReCZ2auRkE
  16. Rosario has the quickest hands of almost any hitter I've ever seen. His hand-eye is spectacular as well. Harold Reynolds compared him to Rod Carew. As long as we're making ridiculous statements, the only other player I saw who could hit this: pitch out was Ichiro Suzuki. Similar hands, speed, arm, different approach. If Rosario ever decides he wants to do some slap hitting, he could win batting titles. I think he'd rather hit 25 bombs, and frankly I'd rather he do that too.
  17. 6 pages before the first pitch, solid work gentlemen and ladies. I decided to skip lunch so I could take a late lunch at 2 for the game. I'm feeling quite peckish and borderline delirio on account of low blood sugar now. My body is much more Sano-ish these days, but I'm feeling mighty Buxton-ish right now...
  18. Home runs are not luck which is why they don't factor into BABIP right? So the fact that he went from 7 to 0 leads me to believe something more significant was wrong with DanSan last year. The eye test, to me indicated a player who lost confidence and was trying hard not to strike out. Rather than trying to drive the ball, he was trying to guide it or just make contact. I think that cautious approach got him behind in counts, caused weaker contact, made him chase more, and slowed his bat speed. You'd expect fewer to no home runs that way, and that's what we got. Maybe Bruno can work in a little leg kick action for Danny. The kids got talent and he's darn likeable.
  19. Well, right now we don't have a long reliever in case let's say Nolasco can't find his stuff and is taken out in the 2nd inning. They said they won't save May for long relief. Duffey would be perfect for that role. He could finish games when we're up 10 or come in when we're down 6 early. He could throw his change to Major League hitters in low-leverage situations, and get more consistent pen work with the organization's best pitching coach. Not a big deal either way to me. If I could keep Tonkin in AAA I would, but saving him at the expense of not having a long reliever or having to go get whoever's in line to start in AAA if there's an injury in the rotation doesn't make a ton of sense to me. Then again, I see Duffey as a much more valuable pitcher in even one inning stints than Tonkin.
  20. Of course, Neil Allen is supposed to be like the change up whisperer or something, I'm not sure i wouldn't have kept him in the pen and put Tonkin on waivers...
  21. Just to clarify, you're ok with the ultimate decision to go with Nolasco if that's what's decided, but you disagree with them telling May/Duffey they are in the running?
  22. Do we know they're going with Nolasco? If it were me, I'd go Nolasco based on spring performance/ career track record/ optimistic peripherals/ contract/ giving the cry baby what he wants until I can figure out what to do with him. However, I get the feeling that Molitor doesn't want Nolasco in the rotation. He had enough to send Duffey down before, but has stuck up for him when he's been hit saying he's working on a change up, or minor leaguers get excited to face major leaguers etc. His comments from earlier this spring seem to support this notion as well. I would not be surprised if Duffey makes the rotation and Nolasco is sent to the pen or designated. The Twins need not look further back than last year's Pelfrey situation to try to sell the Pen to Nolasco. We're going to go through more than 5 starters this year. He'll get his chance if he's a good team mate and performs out of the pen. If he won't go to the pen, he can be designated for assignment and sent to AAA correct? If he refused, he'd have to forfeit his contract, meaning he'd almost certainly accept the demotion into the pen as something temporary. Or am I missing something other than having to release Tonkin if he doesn't somehow strain a forearm before the end of camp?
  23. If Nolasco actually ends up being good this year as his advanced metrics predicted last year (3.51 FIP), I will stop watching games and just follow fangraphs, because then the eye test truly means nothing. Speaking of eye test, I was extremely skeptical of Duffey continuing to be able to pain corners with a mixture of breaking balls. Feel for yackers usually comes and goes, which is why so few pitchers rely upon it like Duffey did last year. He'll get the feel back, but control of 2 curves plus a change like he had last summer isn't a particularly sustainable model...
  24. Not necessary, not meant to be offensive either. We've all heard the speculation. No need to go there. Sorry if I was poking the bear. Bottom line, I am expecting a continuation of the downward trend, but not a large one. I do see his issues as a bat speed problem rather than a concussion thing. His previously elite bat speed allowed him to watch pitches a split second longer without hurting him much anywhere but the power department. As his bat has slowed, he is not able to let the ball get as deep, he's had to guess more, start his swing earlier, and try to pull the ball more. So far, this transition has been difficult for him. I doubt it will become any easier. In defense of the poster who predicted 20 HR, the transition from an up-the-middle/away average guy to a pull/power guy is pretty common. AJ Pierzynski comes to mind. But usually that transition happens earlier in the career.
