  1. Let's hope we can have a full season MVP next year - that would make quite a difference.
  2. No more FA long term contracts blocking the young players. Bundle and trade for Catcher help, otherwise the future is now.
  3. Tyler Duffey - without him the drama of September would not have happened.
  4. This is a great stat comparison that shows we are really below average except for the young who we hope continue to improve (some will). We have to move out the old dead wood. Then we have to add fielding. On fangraphs we are 27 out of 30 teams in fielding. Remember we were only one game over 500 despite the excitement. Our catchers came out 30th - last 1B was 16 - the top of the bottom half 2B was 26 - do we overrate Dozier? SS was 7 - I guess Escobar was good in all measurements 3B was 10 Plouffe held his own RF was 26 time for Hunter to retire CF was 18 - I expected better, except the position 1st half was questionable LF was 30 - last - I thought Rosario would pull this up. Combine hitting and fielding and pitching where we ranked 25 and you can see why ESPN and others were wondering how we were achieving our .500 level.
  5. Dozier should have been dropped in the lineup - not from the lineup. But we have these crazy unwritten laws - Dozier at the top of the lineup for the entire second half makes no sense. Escobar was better than him in the last half. But ultimately it is pitching that is the issue and we have to look for change next year even if it means eating the contracts of non-effective starters. Perkins should have sat and they need to think about next year - which perkins will it be, is Jepsen the answer, is Tonkin ready to step up? Or will be surprised by Burdi or someone else in the minors. Duffey showed us that young arms can be effective and Berrios probably would have done the same.
  6. You are right - Escobar at short and Santana on the bench - but Arcia seems like the proverbial in the dog house guy and I see him traded before playing in the majors again. And I think that is a shame.
  7. I agree play the kids - Let Torii have two innings and an ovation. Then its time to look at the future - everywhere but on the mound that is.
  8. No to Shields and Wieters. Shields is not that good when we have young arms that can be better and I cannot see Wieters signing here, even though I would love it. I just cannot see TR making any big moves. Getting rid of Nolasco would be my first priority but I would not sacrifice future talent to do it. Hughes Santana Gibson Duffey Berrios In the pen Nolasco May Perkins Tonkin Milone (may start before Berrios if the Twins do their normal wait) Ryan Jepsen (he did so well I see them thinking that they are okay) Hicks Mauer Dozier Sano Plouffe Rosario Santana Suzuki Buxton Alex Avila (FA) Vargas Santana Robinson Kepler up later and bull pen will turn over from minor league additions through the summer and the inevitable injuries.
  9. Isn't is amazing what can happen when you let a young arm in to the rotation? Here we are with a rookie and a man who is not eligible for the post season anchoring the staff - poor roster management, they need help and the rest of the staff is a finger crossed hope for the best group.
  10. And we do not have any on the 40 we can shed?
  11. Let's resign Rod Carew
  12. If what he says is true, he is to be congratulated, and what he says is true. We could have called up Dean and Berrios and even more. We could have filled the bullpen and not rely on just Logan Darnell for long relief. We could have had other options than the worn out mediocre arms we trot out each week. We could have give the team a better chance and when we score 8 runs like last night, we might win.
  13. The announcers complain about Logan Darnell being down and we have no long relief. Isn't this September? Couldn't we call up Dean and Berrios and every other starter? We watch the "veteran melt down" that is Hughes, Pelfrey, Milone as we save the arms of the youth who could have each started one game during this stretch. I consider the pitching staff to be a much bigger issue than Buxton. In recent weeks defense has been particularly important with the current staff.
  14. Too soon. I like his time in the majors and I expect him to break out next year and show us the real promise he holds to be much better than Cameron.
  15. Sano can't run - that's the reality. Molitor using Duensing in the end was not good, but the bullpen has only so many arms and despite the fact that I think Duensing should have been gone a long time ago he is the veteran arm and without Perkins he has to be used. If we blame anyone - look at Jepsen. We should not have gone extra innings.
  16. I am assuming that the fans and all us making comments are absolutely clueless because the baseball wizards sure do not have the same take we do. My god Ryan change your mind and bring in Berrios and Dean - you are allowed to change - we promise not to remind you that you did (just kidding).
  17. I believe there is value in just sitting on the bench and getting in the MLB atmosphere. We have a record of trading centerfielders - would we really do another one? We are still not sure if Buxton is ready and we have no idea if Kepler really is either.

  19. I concur. Pelfrey and his relief appearance at the beginning of the game is getting old. The one gem he splices in to this run should not save him. Put a six or seven man rotation together if the young arms need to be pampered. Bring up Berrios, Dean, Rogers - put the best in the rotation and try to get to the playoffs.
  20. Pelfrey has become a three inning relief pitcher only he does his three innings at the beginning of the game. Wouldn't Dean and Berrios look good in the rotation - a six person rotation would be fine for the team and saving the arms and put Pelfrey in the bullpen where 2 innings would be good?
  21. Smith was not a good GM - that is a given, but even when someone is not good at the entire job it does not mean that they cannot be good at a portion of the work and Smith did an excellent job with the signings. It's just too bad he did not know how to hold his own on trades. Ryan on the other hand is slow to move and too in love with the crafty old veterans. Sabremetrics have to enter the Twins GM world.
  22. How could it hurt the Twins to have Kepler on the bench? First no Berrios, now no Kepler. I would add Beresford too - Plouffe is not close to last year and another 3B on the bench would not hurt.
  23. Who would be the Major League starting pitcher of the month? What a question. We sure don't need these minor leaguers during this playoff run when we have such quality to run out each night.
  24. Despite the cliches' it is not smart to keep a good arm throwing in the minors when they belong in the majors. If every arm has a limit before it breaks down, then use it in the majors. This cliche' is even older than Terry Ryan and just as boring. The same thing with the super two. When players are good they get extensions in their second or third year (of course the Twins gave Dozier the new contract and forgot to add any years) and this does not come in to play if the teams are aggressive and forward thinking. Berrios should be here now and my big fear is a resigning of Pelfrey.
  25. I am always delighted when the young players come up and get a taste of MLB. Santana and Vargas need this to test their improvement. But the call ups must continue - we all know Berrios should be up and I would put Walker on the bench even if it was not intended that he play. We have him going to AZ - give him a sense of what he is working for. And do the same with Kepler.
