  1. I'm sort of in the "A Dozier trade should be one that knocks our eyes out" rather than one that "does a good job of putting some pieces in place."
  2. Whether or not this is good hire remains to be see. However, I agree that going outside the organization is a good change of direction.
  3. I work in the school system in CA. What I see on a daily basis tends to leave me jaded, though I know it's a small sample size. Still no excuse for such a generalization, however.
  4. Sorry about that, sort of stuck my keyboard in my mouth with that comment.
  5. The same Torii that got into a fight with Justin Morneau because Hunter thought Morneau lacked the appropriate work ethic? Torii Hunter is known for his work ethic. That's a given. Hunter played for a long time at a high level. He was also known as a clubhouse guy. I suspect Hunter just might have something to offer.
  6. Cuddyer made an astute observation when he pointed out that when he rehabbed he caught too much "III" and "are we there yet?" We have a younger generation that has absolutely no clue about working toward a goal because they've always got what they wanted when they wanted. We know the Twins have a problem moving players at the right pace through the minors, but, we also don't if there is a problem with an "I" before "team" attitude that is holding back players. It's very possible that's something that has been identified as a problem organization wide and these guys may be part of the answer.
  7. 3) Teams could stash a player from the rule 5 draft more easily. In the Twins case, that might be the best rthing use. Unfortunately changes in rule 5 eligibility a some years ago make it much more unlikely that a Johan Santana would be available. A stashed player sitting on the bench while losing a year of development and then returning to the minors for a year or two is a long time to wait for a pay off. But, it might also be a way to put some players back in the farms system outside of the regular draft. Have to think in terms of 3 or 4 drafts rather than just one Rule 5.
  8. I was against a 3 year deal for someone like Castro simply due to the age factor. However, now that I think about it, signing Castro says the front office does not believe there is anything in the pipeline close to MLB ready. Signing Castro also tells me a lot about the Murphy trade. It's looking like an interesting off-season.
  9. I ran across this: the last three years, Dozier has averaged 4.7 WAR. According to Baseball reference, +5 WAR is all-star caliber. (I choose the last 3 years because this is when I think Brian started to really figure things out) I'm torn on Brian Dozier. One part of me worries that Mr. Dozier is being undervalued and the other worries that Brian is getting close to his "sell by" date. Glad I'm not the GM making these kinds of decisions.
  10. According to Baseball Reference, from 2015 through 2016, Brian Dozier has 3 walk-off home runs, 13 tying home runs and 24 go-ahead home runs among his 70 home run total. (I pieced this together, maybe someone has better information) That seems like a special bat and perhaps a #1 starter is undervaluing Mr. Dozier just a bit. Remember, a #1 starter pitches every 5th day, but the #2 and #3 starter may need the bat provided by Mr. Dozier. (I realize there are some problems with the totals, because some home-runs are probably double counted. For instance, a walk-off home run may also be counted as a go-ahead home-run.)
  11. Sano to DH, Vargas to First and Park to Third!
  12. I don't remember who put up the article, but mismanagement of the 40 man has been a huge problem for the Twins. To the point it has affected player development, if I remember correctly. It's sad to see someone go that has that kind of power, but, things have to change if the Twins are going to be contenders.
  13. The Twins need to be blown away by a deal. Dozier is cost-controlled and will probably command a high price at the trade deadline next year. Do the Jays have anything left in the farm system? Figure Tulahoweveryouspellhisname goes down and the Jays are desperate for the bat at the deadline. Ah, the hot stove league, where fantasy and reality rarely cross paths.
  14. Clayton Kershaw or bust!
  15. Hey, I'm with you on signing great guys and all. But with how bad the pitching staff has been, it's hard for me to see a way to justify the money. I hate it when reality intrudes on what I'd like to have happen. And I was only half kidding when I suggested Drew Butera. I took a peek at his contract numbers and his last contract was around $1.5 million. I in no way shape or form think Drew Butera is a starting catcher. He might, however, make a decent platoon catcher with one of the rookies.
  16. Not sure that's what I said, but, your point does stand when it comes to veteran players. However, I am cautioning against signing a player like Castro as "the guy" that will set things right when the reality is that it's a fair amount of money for a catcher that will be working with a questionable pitching staff. If all you're after is a veteran guy that works well with pitchers, might as well sign Drew Butera.
  17. Who the Twins sign as catcher should reflect where they think they are as an organization. There is absolutely no reason to spend a lot of money on a catcher if the Twins are a couple of years away from competing. Castro is what, 29? if the Twins plan on being competitive in 2018, that means Castro will be pushing 31, an age when most players skills are on the decline. The best framing catcher in the world cannot help a staff that cannot get hitters out.
  18. Hmm, new pitching coach and Allen becomes the new pitching coordinator for the Twins organization? (if there is such a thing)* *sheesh, need reading comprehension lessons. Right there in the article "pitching coordinator" is mentioned.
  19. Yeah, but MN seasons are simple: Winter and "Under Construction." I'm all about simple. Who needs analytics?
  20. I might just move back to MN to get that job...
  21. I'd go with something subtle, like a Cleveland banner sash or maybe an Indian headdress. No need to say anything snarky, that way.
  22. Taking the dentures out is a good reason not to answer the phone. From what a friend tells me, anyway...
  23. Drat, I thought that picture had disappeared long ago.....
  24. By the way, Cleveland in 5. (There are a lot of Dodger fans at work and I told them, even after the Dodgers were up 2-1 the Cubbies would take it in 6)* *Past performance is no guarantee of future results.
  25. Ahem: Posted 05 October 2016 - 08:06 AM I'm going with the Cubs. Second choice is the Giants. Dark horse: Cleveland.
