  1. Here is an idea for the front office... DFA Butera, send Diamond down, Claim Jair Jurrjens, Call Diamond back when we trade Correia or Pelfrey, or when Diamond has reclaimed his stuff and its time to send someone else down Jurrjens has a history of being better than anyone else on the current 40 man as a starter... http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/j/jurrjja01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&utm_source=direct&utm_medium=linker-www.typepad.com
  2. Link to an article in Bernier's home town paper. Point of interest is their claim he should have been a AAA all star this year based on his stats and defense. St. Joseph graduate Doug Bernier called up by Twins : High-school Wikipedia describes him as a utility infielder. Sounds like a defensive substitute...If only we had an offensive infield that could use one!
  3. More info on "untracked" which apparently is an odd sports term that means something totally different to some in sports from its non sports meaning. Getting 'untracked' - The Boston Globe
  4. There may be a need to bump someone from the 40 man in the future (eg coming off DL) and I would rather have Bernier passed through waivers than other middle infielders mentioned . On the other hand, why have we not passed Butera through waivers? I would see that as a positive if he was claimed... Just saying...
  5. I have a feeling a trade is imminent which includes Morneau and/or Doumit freeing DH and 1B time. 10 game warning given by Ryan has expired. Let the trading games begin.
  6. Could this move really be about Hermann for Doumit, Collabello for Morneau, and Bernier for Carroll?
  7. Just FYI... Untracked or On Track are train terms...Untracked means the train is off the tracks. AKA, They are Not good. I think what you are saying is "Get On Track" meaning headed in the right direction. there has been plenty of speculation that these guys need some honing and this seems like the ideal time to get Parms and Arcia some work at AAA while final trades are worked out before the deadline. Ryan said clearly "the next 10 games will determine" if we are buyers or sellers...we're selling. I wouldn't be surprised to see Mouneau gone in the next 3 days. Doumit, Fien, Duensing, Burton, Correia, Pelfrey, and Carroll are surely being shopped with packages that may include numerous AAAA players to anyone willing to buy. These moves are part of what we already knew. The MLB season is over and we are working on 2014. No one should be surprised, most of us knew this in April.

  9. I was out of town for Caleb's first run allowed, does it still count? Caleb gave up a solo HR ending the dream of a career ERA of 0.00 but it was an impressive start to his Major League career. On a separate note, Caleb lost his grandmother and he will be going on a bereavement leave Thursday and return to the Twins on Sunday. Keep his family in your thoughts and prayers during this time. Here's a link to the bereavement leave info. Fantasy Baseball News & Player Updates | MLB.com: Fantasy
  10. Minnesota Twins' Caleb Thielbar, ex-St. Paul Saint, making history - TwinCities.com
  11. Up to 14.2 innings and 13 appearances, ERA still 0.00... Counting AAA, that is now 25-26 straight innings without an earned run...
  12. Thank you SD Buhr, that explained all my questions on Melotakis! He definitely has that bulldog mentality others have pointed to!
  13. My wife was the one yelling "George" just to annoy me... Jorge Had some nice range on a couple of late inning put outs but also did not get to a couple of singles earlier in the game... Can't get em all!
  14. First CR Kernels game and Max really helped me get over missing the Buxton era...was supposed to see them April 17th but was rained out. Kepler looks like the real deal but with his size does he really project as CF prospect? I thought he looks more like a corner outfield long term.
  15. First CR Kernels game and was stunned by his size... He's a big young man!!
  16. Went to my first CR Kernels game and was worried about Melotakis while he warmed up. He was a bit wiled in the bull pen. First inning he sat down the opposing players methodically and efficiently. I believe it took 3 pitches to get the first two outs. He looked great. Second inning not so much. He worked himself out of it but once runners were on, the wildness returned. Third inning, quick and efficient. Fourth, similar to second but allowed two runs this time. Same result in fifth. Sixth was very efficient again with two more strikeouts. 6 innings, 5 hits, 4 runs, 3 earned, 3 walks, 5 strikeouts in a no decision. On a separate note, I wondered about the radar gun their, his fastball was reading 86 with other pitches in low 80s to high 70s...
  17. First Cedar Rapids game for me today. Niko made everything at SS look routine and smooth. His approach at the plate was impressive as he fouled off several two strike pitches top of the first and made mostly solid contact. Only one game but I liked what I saw.
  18. Seems like payroll in the new stadium did go up.. Major League Baseball Team Payrolls 1998-2013 In million= 2013-95, 2012-95, 2011-112, 2010-97, 2009-65, 2008-56, 2007-75, 2006-63,2005-56
  19. Twins Daily is great because most commentators making posts honestly look at the numbers and players and make fairly accurate portrayals. I have been seeing too many posts lacking that clarity in judgement in regard to Diamond and Gibson lately. Recognizing Diamond as our best pitcher last year only meant he was the best of a litany of back end rotation guys and that is all the hype he really got coming into the season. He earned a place because we just do not have a 1 or 2 pitcher and he was the best of the rest. Now he clearly is not! We do need to recognize that it is always the big inning. He is not as abysmal as many performers on the mound we have endured recently! He looks like he has some of what he had last year for four of the five plus innings he gives us then something mental happens. So let's give the young guy a reboot at AAA fully expecting that he will right the ship and be our future 2014-15 4-5 hole rotation guy! When Gibson does come up, I expect to see inconsistency. He will probably have a good game intermingled with bad games until he matures as an MLB pitcher. This is what I have seen him do with past promotions (am I remembering him wrong?) Better to do that in a year of lower expectations. It is the time. So...Demote Diamond until we trade Pelfrey and/or Correia sometime in July, Promote Gibson until he runs out of innings (also July) and then look at Albers coming up with Diamond. Unless someone completely falls off the wagon, This seems to me to be the logical way to handle the rotation for now.
  20. My wife tried to take me to Cedar Rapids game for my birthday but it was rained out. Make up day is Tuesday. Promote him Wednesday BUT NOT BEFORE!!
  21. ERA still at 0.00... The legend of Caleb Thielbar grows
  22. I have to stand up for my prospect (or after last two weeks, former prospect)Having been promoted to the Majors I sort of understand the omission but since you did not even have a #5 on the list I think Caleb Thielbar deserved a little time. In 6 games for Rochester he pitched 9.1 innings giving up 4 hits and 5 walks while striking out 11. He had several holds and did not allow a single inherited runner to score. All the while allowing only 1 unearned run for a 0.00 ERA. I think that makes him top 5 and arguably top 3 if he wasn't now a major leaguer.
  23. 6 games, 7.1 innings, 9 strikeouts to 2 walks, 0.00 ERA with a 1-0 record! Congrats on your first win!!
  24. Is Parmalee out of options? I would think he should go down before Arcia! I know Arcia has struggled in last 30 at bats or so but so did Joe in the 30 before that! Disappointed by this decision...
  25. In his first 3 appearances, Thielbar has pitched 5 scoreless innings with 6 strikeouts while allowing only one walk and one hit for a .60 WHIP. Counting AAA, he has gone 16.1 straight innings without an earned run!
