    You assume the Rooker playing for the A's would be the Rooker playing for the Twins if we'd only held on. I expect Rooker continuing to "develop" with the Twins would more likely be out of the league by now. Which gets to the heart of the Twins problems. It's not lack of talent. It's continually squandering talent in an attempt to outsmart the game itself.

    Too many high draft picks failing for it to be a talent issue, IMO. Twins internally developed prospects are regularly outperformed by cast offs from other organizations. Twins prospects arrive with poor fundamental skills and are expected to improve in an extremely fluid (to be charitable) environment. No positional stability and little to no accountability. From here it looks like a development issue.

    Most shocking news is Twins gave up cash. Unless "cash considerations" doesn't actually involve any money.

    The key is development. Twins don't do that. Waiver wire pickups from other organizations outplay our call-ups. The constant injury issues don't help.

    Plenty of criticism that Rocco has little leeway with how the team is run, simply implements the FO philosophy. How likely is it the batting coaches are in the same boat? We've changed the coaches but the players are still playing "guess the pitch". And they guess wrong a lot. There are too many at bats where the players only swings are at balls out of the zone, while watching called strikes down the middle. And the booth crew agree "he must have been looking for something else". Rinse and repeat.

    I would not be surprised if ownership actively resents and despises the fans. They want fans who fill the stadium to capacity and pay for top tier cable packages throughout the local tv area. Instead the team is stuck with empty seats and low revenue streaming. We have let this team down. Why should they reward us?

    How could the timing make sense? If the FO is fully committed to Rocco and they were starting to hear rumblings of discontent from the players. We signed a couple veterans who know how baseball is supposed to be played and may have spoken up about the difference between winning and Twinsing. Message sent. Rocco is running the team the way the FO wants it run. You're not getting him fired; no help is on the way. Get on board with the program. We'll see if a manager extension can provide the same bump as a manager firing.

    And turn the SS position into a black whole. The Twins have NO ONE to replace his glove, not even to small degree. Dumping the Correa salary commitment will be a negative on the field. However, this team isn't going anywhere anyway. It would free up money for other positions. As long as ownership doesn't pocket the entire amount (no sure thing) the Twins will have a few more resources to work with. Correa is unable to carry this team and ownership is unwilling to spend to add around him. This wouldn't matter if the prospects could play but it's becoming apparent the same organizational philosophy that built this roster is failing to develop the young talent. Fringe pickups like Bader and France are better than any of the highly drafted players "developed" in the Twins minor leagues. Correa is like the Ferrari a guy clings to after he's lost his job and been thrown out by his wife. Expensive, frequently in the shop, but still a last grasp at relevance after everything else has gone to sh*t.

    Twins should at least be asking Buxton/Correa what they want to waive the no trade. Buxton is currently at peak value and may be willing to go to a contender. Correa is damaged goods but his contract doesn't fit on a team that won't spend. Yes, the Twins have a high salary relative to the rest of the Central but recent activity (or lack thereof) indicates the team isn't comfortable with that outlay. Swapping cheap players for other cheap players requires the FO to win a bunch of trades - not counting on that. Freeing up cash to allow the FO to balance performance and salary across the roster may provide a more competitive team. Retooling should include changing the philosophy as well as the players. A focus on athleticism, fundamentals, and new field leadership is needed.

    Probably. Kind of the contact play we run regardless of infield configuration, runner speed, game situation.... players don't appear to be allowed much discretion. Makes you wonder if the atrophy in fundamentals is partially due to lack of engagement.

    Self fulfilling. Organizational bias against the bunt. Team doesn't waste time practicing the bunt. Team can't execute bunts due to lack of practice. Inability to execute reinforces bias against bunting.

    Last night was the first game I've been able to watch in a few weeks. Thanks to MLBtv blackouts and some personal travel I missed the first 11 games of the winning streak. What happened to the team I was watching earlier this year? Lousy defense, base running blunders, incompetence at the plate - team looked like a basket case. We sent a couple guys down and brought in a couple more with worse pedigrees but who developed outside the Twins organization, so perhaps better schooled on fundamentals. Was a little bit of accountability all we needed? Sheer luck? Rocco suddenly learned how to manage? I'm sincerely curious what turned this around.

    You're right, only an idiot would think some umps could possibly be compromised. Just like congress - fine, upstanding paragons of virtue, one and all.

    This home plate umpire obviously missed a call on Larnach but he's had a very good day behind the plate. THIS is why we need the ABS. The umpires have lowered standards to the point we think that job behind the plate today was just dandy. Velocity is up, pitches are nastier - okay, if the job's too hard for humans let the machines handle it. Going ahead with the current umpires is like prohibiting robot welders because the hung-over, Monday morning lemon auto workers were good enough for Henry Ford. EDIT: And let me just add, in my opinion certain umps are corrupt rather than (or in addition too) barely competent. ABS makes corruption harder, if not impossible.

    I missed the last series because I'm in the Baltimore blackout area. First non orioles game is Apple so blacked out on MLBtv. I don't care about Apple. I do care that every stinking sports league parcels out the games to ensure you can't watch them without subsidizing every individual streaming service. If you postulate every sports league despises their actual fans I would be hard pressed to prove you wrong.

    Has a national media person ever - in any sport - suggested a trade proposal that benefits the MN team? I can't recall one. It's a safe rule of thumb that any trade proposal not suggested by local MN media is intended to move assets out of MN or liabilities to MN. Or both. Often both.
