  1. LOL, good work on the bubble graph.
  2. I'm guessing to get ready for the season? Maybe so pitchers can work on certain pitches, maybe get their pitch counts up? Maybe so that the first time hitters see live pitching in months it's not in a game that counts? Maybe so they can work on PFP, work on turning double plays, hitting cut off men, etc. Are you telling me that the opening day roster should be set based on ST numbers? Boy, I hope Mauer never has a bad spring training, does he have any options left? I'm not saying Hicks did or did not earn the CF job. If he did it should be based on his track record as a whole, and what the coaches see as his strengths and weaknesses, not because he can put up the best numbers in a tiny sample size of pretend games against mixed competition.
  3. I considered that, but then why not include the Red Sox as well? Or the Indians? Or the Rangers?
  4. Again, the bolded is kind of my point. No matter how long you wait to call him up, he is going to have to face MLB hitters for the very first time in his life at some point. He is not an elite prospect. He should never have been expected to come up and dominate. No matter how long you wait, there was going to be a learning curve, I don't care if you wait until he's 35. So, if you are going to have that learning curve either way, why not give him a shot when you know his arm is fresh, rather than later when it now has to become a question of, is his arm dead, or is he just bad?
  5. Who has him pegged as an ace? I think most people have been on the same page since the day he was drafted that his upside is a solid #2 or good #3. And I don't think his performance this year changes that one bit. I take nothing out of this other than he got some valuable experience, and I wish he had gotten a chance with a fresh arm, but the numbers don't concern me.
  6. And they achieved that by calling him up to face MLB hitters for the first time in his life with a dead arm? That's my whole point, call him up while his arm is fresh and he has a chance, don't call him up after he's thrown 100 innings (after not pitching much last year) and throw him to the wolves.
  7. He's making the league minimum, so he wouldn't have to be a teams starting 2b to be claimed. Which makes me wonder why he specifically excluded the Yankees. Perhaps he was just taking some kind of shot at the Yankees? I'm not sure.
  8. You mean like Aaron Hicks this year? How'd that work out? If they think he's ready he should be here, if not he shouldn't, but I would sure as hell hope that the Twins have learned their lesson and that Spring Training will have absolutely nothing to do with that decision. We're talking about practice.
  9. I disagree. He should have been here as soon as he was physically ready. He's 25 (almost 26, I believe?) years old. What harm is done if he struggles a bit then, we fall out of the division race?
  10. Wasn't the reason for waiting so long to get him up here because they wanted him up here for good? Of course a rebuttal is that they couldn't have predicted he'd pitch this poorly. To that, I say 2 things. 1) It should have been pretty well expected that he would struggle. Maybe not this much, but after all he's facing mlb hitters for the first time with a dead arm (140 IP after not pitching much last year). 2) At the time I said that was a dumb reason, because no matter how long you wait to call him is no guarantee that his performance won't warrant a demotion. JUST TO BE CLEAR: I don't have a problem with the demotion, I have a problem with wasting 90+ of his freshest innings in AAA.
  11. Oh, you might be right about that. I can't recall for sure.
  12. He is really close to his innings limit, is he not? He might be able to give him 1 or 2 starts, but not much in the playoffs, correct?
  13. Maybe, but he was pretty adamant that he would be doing no such thing when asked about it on 1500.
  14. Fair enough. I can accept that it doesnt merit a team punishment, I guess. I've cooled on it since someone in the organization called him out on it (Steil). Terry Ryan's comments practically defended him, they werent sharp enough, IMO. But I'm glad Steil's were.
  15. I predicted before the season that he would finish the year with 999, so I'll stick with that. I think he'll be here next year unless he wants to leave.
  16. Okay, you are scaring me to death with the Walker report. Outside of the "smooth in the outfield" comment, it sounds like you are describing Delmon Young!!
  17. And the ONLY way to stick up for your players is with physical violence huh? It's funny then that you don't see any other manager, at any level doing this. I guess Dougie is just the only manager at any level of baseball that sticks up for his players.
  18. He's a top 60 prospect in baseball for a reason. You are not exactly going out on a limb here.
  19. It's nice to see Brad Steil call him out on it. Personally I think it warrants sitting him down for a game, but short of that I think this is a good statement by Steil. This is really all I wanted to see, the Twins making it known that he behaved in an unprofessional manner and that behavior is not acceptable.
  20. First off, we DO know that the Twins are not planning any repercussions. Terry Ryan stated that there would not be any further punishment from the team. But, I guess I can buy the bolded. Perhaps the team would have suspended him if the league was not going to, but they feel that the league suspension is enough, so they are satisfied with that. Personally, I still think it's a bit hypocritical. I still would have liked to see them sit him down for even one game, just to send a message that they expect their employees to behave like professionals.
  21. What are you trying to argue with this link? It seems to support our argument, not yours. These tables seem to suggest that in SOME cases, you can increase your probability of scoring ONE run by bunting, but that overall you score LESS total runs by bunting. I think many of us have conceded that in some cases a bunt is not terrible if you are playing for only one run. The Twins should not have been playing for only one run in that situation.
  22. I don't think the Dodgers would even consider moving Kershaw. He's the best pitcher in baseball right now, and IMO it's not even particularly close. In fact, given the era he pitches in, he is making a case to be historically good right now.
  23. Meyer certainly looks the part of the real deal so far. Can't wait to get him up here.
  24. That's fine. Do what you have to do, but then be accountable for it. I'm guessing that if you started a physical altercation with someone at your workplace, you would have to face some consequences from your boss, regardless of whether the guy deserved it or not. Hell, your boss might even tell you that he understands and respects WHY you did what you did, but that you are still going to have to take a few days off. I liken it to confronting a man at a bar who makes an inappropriate comment at your wife/girlfriend. Was it justified? It might have been, depending on what was said. Did you do the right thing? Probably. Sometimes you weigh the need to defend your family versus the consequences, and decide that the consequences are worth it. Are you still going to jail if you instigate a fight? You probably are. The cop might even say something like, "I would have done the same thing buddy, but you know I still have to take you in." And hell no, of course I don't want Dougie fired. I love having him in the organization and have said so in here multiple times. This doesn't change that. I think he needs a few games off to show there is no double standard though.
  25. Cingrani is a good pitcher, but the ERA is probably not sustainable. He has a really low babip, and his HR rate should probably be higher based on how much of an extreme flyball pitcher he's been. It's probably too early to definitively declare it fluky, (every once in a while a pitcher comes along who, for whatever reason consistently induces low babip's) but at the least I'm skeptical. IMO, he's probably a solid #2 to pretty good #3 type pitcher. Those are nice to have, but that's not the type of pitcher I'd trade Sano or Buxton for. I think some Twins fans, as a defense mechanism, have tempered their expectations of Sano/Buxton TOO MUCH. They are elite prospects. I wouldn't trade either one for anything but an absolute #1 ace.
