  1. There is a big difference between top 5 prospects in all of baseball, and fringe top 50-100 prospects like Hicks and Gibson. Besides, I'm not saying its a 100% sure thing, I'm just saying that top prospects his age, and with his minor league track record CAN come up and be ready to mash, some people on this board are completely dismissing the idea, acting like its impossible for a 20 year old to be ready.
  2. I might be wrong, but I thought the 20% rule was for pre ARB players, i.e. renewable contract guys.
  3. Morneau hasn't hit .280 since 2010, hasn't hit 20 HR's since 2009, hasn't driven in 85 RBI since 2009, and hasn't had a positive dWAR since 2010. If there are rebuilding teams that value Morneau so much, then why did exactly zero teams claim him on waivers?
  4. Yeah Milk Duds are way better. Fun Fact about Milk Duds, they got their name because they were intended to be perfectly round shaped, but that was found to be impossible at the time. Every time they tried, they got a "dud".
  5. And one more thing, Mr. Correia, when you have a guy down 0-2 throw some junk up there, there is no need to pitch to contact in an 0-2 count. I know its hard to believe, but sometimes a guy will swing at something out of the zone in that spot.
  6. Fair enough, but let's not compare Hicks to Sano. Whenever it is that Sano comes up, he will mash.
  7. It's sad how far this Twins organization has lowered the bar. You guys realize this is still a MLB team right? It's sad that it's come to the point that we have to say "well he played pretty good, for a Twins player!" Sorry if that's not good enough for me. Overspend and bring in some real major league baseball players, not a bunch of guys who we have to commend for keeping the opponent from 10 running us.
  8. I said same pitching line. In other words, the disaster happens in the 1st instead of the 7th, but he still ends up going 6.2 innings.
  9. That is why I don't want Morneau on a 3 year deal. If Sano is a disaster at 3B and has to be moved to 1B, you are now stuck with Morneau for 2 more years, and can ONLY play him at DH, where we have plenty of options. Reports were that Plouffe and Dozier's gloves were playable at SS. Reports don't always turn out to be true. A 1 WAR is practically replacement level. We're splitting hairs at that point, especially on a team for which 1 win means absolutely nothing.
  10. I don't know. I think he needs a huge last 1/4 of the season. He's taken a pretty big step back offensively, and his defense is still awful. At some point its not about the money, it's about getting away from this habit of wasting roster spots with guys who just are not any good.
  11. I'm not convinced it would. The plan should be to upgrade the position, not hope a couple of AAAA players find magic beans. I'd still rather give them a shot over bringing Morneau back, because at least there is a chance that one of them figures something out, but its a long shot.
  12. My point is, when you constantly put baserunners on, you are going to eventually get yourself in trouble, especially when you don't have a K pitch. The 7th inning was bound to happen. It's not like he was dominating them all night, and 1 or 2 bad pitches doomed him. He was flirting with disaster, and it eventually bit him.
  13. I'd do that trade in a heartbeat. Wait, did Cy Young clear waivers?
  14. Yeah, and then the 7th, which counts the same as any other inning. Would it still be a good performance if the 7th inning happened in the 1st inning instead, but otherwise the same pitching line, 11 baserunners in 6.2 innings? Or is it like those fitness tests in grade school, you throw out your best time, and your worst time, and average the rest?
  15. Ahh, here I thought they still played 9 innings in MLB. Didn't realize only part of the performance counted.
  16. I don't care about the money. I don't want them to commit to a league average 1B'man who could decline even further for 3 years. If they insist on bringing him back, I'd rather do it for 1 yr/$14 million instead of 3 yrs/$20 million. Money is not an issue right now. This team needs to get BETTER, not stay the same. All giving Morneau a 3 year contract does is guarantee that you won't get better at that position for at least 4 years. Upgrading that position would no longer even be an option, because Gardy is not going to bench Justin Morneau. Explain to me what the plan is if you sign him for 3 years and he finishes next year with an OPS of .670? You can't trade him, they aren't going to cut a guy with 2 years remaining, Gardy isn't going to bench him no matter how bad he plays. So explain to me what the plan is if that happens? You can get the equivalent of Justin Morneau somewhere else without having to commit yourself to 3 years.
  17. Miguel Cabrera, Mike Trout, Bryce Harper, Manny Machado. All came up at 19 or 20. Sano has outperformed all of their minor league performances except Trout, who had pretty similar minor league production. Were those guys rushed? Minor league PA's: Machado: 928 Trout: 1312 Harper: 550 Cabrera: 1597 Sano: 1556 Minor league OPS: Machado: .776 Trout: .941 Harper: .874 Cabrera: .782 Sano: .938 Minor league games at AA or higher: Machado: 109 Trout: 91 Harper: 58 Cabrera: 69 Sano: 56 Does Sano still have things to work on? Sure, I bet he does. But I bet those guys did too. That doesn't mean he can't have success. That doesn't mean he can't work on those things here, even while being productive out of the gate.
  18. Was he lucky at every other level he's played, or unlucky so far at AA? Because the only difference causing his AVG to sink is a massive drop in babip. He's not struggling at the plate at all, he's dominating AA just like he's dominated every other level. He's 3rd in the Eastern League in OPS right now. His K and BB rates are right in line with his other levels.
  19. I'm not attempting to use a crystal ball. I'm looking at his last 3 seasons objectively. You are the one trying to project something other than what is there. If you are really that worried that he'll suddenly become an all star next year, then sign him to a 1 year deal. I don't see what tying yourself to him for 3 years accomplishes.
  20. You cannot discuss Morneau as if he is just another baseball player. Most baseball players do not have such a drastic, career altering injury as Morneau had. He is no longer the same player as he was pre concussion.
  21. The wrist and neck issues were not last year, they were 2011. He had surgery on the neck in June 2011: Twins' Justin Morneau to have neck surgery - USATODAY.com He had surgery on the wrist in September 2011: Justin Morneau undergoes minor wrist surgery - Minnesota Twins news | 1500 ESPN Twin Cities ? Minnesota Sports News & Opinion (Twins, Vikings, Wolves, Wild, Gophers) | Sportswire: Minnesota Twins Health has not been the issue in 2012 or 2013. This is just who he is post concussion, it is time to accept reality. I think it is your heart and not your head telling you otherwise, but hey if that is your opinion, not much I can say to change it. That said, what if you are wrong? What if we sign him to a 3 year deal and end up stuck with a below average or average 33, 34 and 35 year old first baseman for the next 3 years, who cannot be traded? How does that help us get better?
  22. Can you list examples of career .900+ OPS hitters that suddenly fell off a cliff at age 29? (Not including guys like Morneau whose decline was due to injury, you can't predict that. )
  23. Locking up a league average player who will be 33 years old just because "he's the best we have" doesn't seem to me like a method for improving your ball club. It seems to me like a method of making sure your ball club stays exactly the same. The thought process with a 90+ loss team (3 consecutive seasons) should be to look at each position and see where you can improve, not strive to stay the same. BTW: Prince is having a down year, whereas Morneau's season so far is pretty consistent with his last 2 seasons. Prince is also 3 years younger. It's a fairly good bet that Prince will bounce back next year, Justin not so much.
  24. They are blue when ripe. From wiki: The fruit is a berry 5–16 millimeters (0.20–0.63 in) in diameter with a flared crown at the end; they are pale greenish at first, then reddish-purple, and finally dark blue when ripe.
