  1. My personal opinion is that Buxton has too much talent and work ethic to not figure it out. Typically when we see elite prospects bust, it's because they were overly dependent on one or two tools, or because they didn't care enough to adjust. However, I think it could take Buxton longer to figure out mlb caliber pitching than anyone here was hoping.
  2. Does it really matter? The Twins were never going to contend for anything during Suzukis tenure here. If you could have gotten some potential pieces for him that might contribute to the next playoff team you do it and worry about who plays catcher later. This one foot in, one foot out rebuild drives me crazy. Perkins absolutely should have been traded at peak value, as should have Willingham, Suzuki, Hughes and probably Dozier.
  3. If the plan was to replace Milone he could have stayed in AAA another week, or piggybacked off Milones 4 inning start.
  4. I would agree with Thrylos on that appearance. A relievers job isn't always fair but that's the life of a reliever.
  5. What exactly do you mean when you say you are not a believer in babip? Babip is not a subjective metric like WAR or UZR or something. Babip is a measured statistic like batting average or stolen bases. And, we have an extremely large sample size of historical data that tells us that babiping. 440 is neither a skill, nor sustainable. Also, your logic is backwards on the XBHs. If a good chunk of his success was XBHs, it would point to a change in approach or swing or something sustainable. Spraying line drives (which is what you need to get XBHs) is not something you can accidentally get lucky and do. Fifteen hoppers through the infield and Texas league bloopers ARE something that any major leaguer can get lucky and do on any given at bat. Yes, hits are hits in the sense that they help the club in that given moment, and the player doesn't have to give them back, but some hits are skill and some are fluke luck. That's why they play so many games in baseball, and at some point that babip will normalize.
  6. The only thing different with Nunez is his babip. It's .440. He's taken all of 2 walks in 65 PA. He has 3 XBH and 19 singles! Basically, he's getting a bunch of seeing eye singles, and that's not sustainable. He's gonna crash hard when that babip normalizes.
  7. Polanco can play SS. It might not be his ideal position, but it's where he has the most milb experience.
  8. That may be true, and perhaps the rules need to be addressed, but for now the substances are banned, so using them is cheating.
  9. Missed the first inning. What happened on the error?
  10. I think the opinion on Tonkin is that when you've been a non contending team for 5 straight years you shouldn't wait until the last minute to see what you have in guys like him.
  11. Yeah I think baseball is the one sport where clubhouse chemistry probably does matter a significant amount. The season is 6 months long, if you include spring training these guys probably spend more time together each year than they do with their families.
  12. Well if you are going to wait to be mathematically eliminated every year, it's going to be tough to ever develop guys for the future. Even 90 loss teams are still technically in it until the last 2 or 3 weeks.
  13. No, it doesn't mean that. Look, I know people scoff at the Randy Johnson comps, and I get it he's a HOF, but how many gave up on him? Luckily at least one person didn't because eventually he did figure it out. And it's not like Meyer has never had success. Last year was terrible, though he finished the year strong in AAA. Tonight was beyond terrible. Outside of that he's had stretches of downright dominance in the minors. His mlb sample size is still pretty tiny. There is still time for him to figure it out.
  14. That might very well be true, but I still hope he gets a legit shot as a starter first. I know he's yet to show it yet at the MLB level, but he truly has the stuff to be a true ace. Being that the Twins are never going to get one of those on the open market, and probably don't have another one in their system (Berrios being the closest, but still not as good pure stuff), they need to give him a real, 15 start at the mlb level shot. I know that might be tough to stomach if he's not on, but at this point who cares, the season is LIKELY over.
  15. Yeah he sure was. But, and I know this wasn't his debut, but do you remember May's debut last year? I mean yikes, that was brutal. Glad we didn't give up on him then.
  16. Well I can't speak for everyone but I blame Terry, not Mollie. He should know how the manager is going to use players before he calls them up. Though, I suspect that's a distinction without a difference to you. I'm sorry, Meyer is not a typical pitcher. He's going to have a tough time repeating his delivery with his frame. They knew that when they traded for him. Something was working in AAA. Sure, plenty of guys can be ready anytime, 1 day or 20 days. Meyer is never going to be that guy. That doesn't mean he can't be a mlb pitcher.
  17. Man chief you clearly have something against Meyer. We have a lot of young players getting their feet wet and I don't remember you being this hard on any of the other ones struggles.
  18. Really? Because proven veteran pitchers often need a start or two to get back in a groove after that much time between starts. But if it's true with a prospect he will never be a mlb pitcher?
  19. He can't call up Mollie and say hey if I call up Meyer how will you use him?
  20. For the record I don't blame Molitor. He's got to manage to his style, right or wrong. You can't be someone you aren't. I blame Terry Ryan for a) hiring a guy to manage a rebuilding team without discussing how he'd handle young players. And, calling up Meyer when the whole world could have predicted he'd sit on the bench, just like Kepler and Polanco.
  21. Well how about, and I know this is a crazy idea, leaving him in AAA on his normal rotation, and calling up Pat Dean or Taylor Rogers or Logan Darnell if all you needed was a warm body to sit on the bench waiting for mop up duty?
  22. That might all be true. But, he was clearly doing something very right at AAA this year. I think it's a flat out joke that they yanked him out of a routine that was clearly working for him, for no discernable reason, and made him sit on the bench for 9 days, then threw him out there in a game he probably wasn't expected to pitch in, against a powerful lineup who is clearly swinging the bats well tonight.
  23. I don't think anyone is saying he deserves no blame for how he pitches. But a managers/coaches job is to put players on the best position to succeed. Do you feel they've done that with Meyer over the last 10 days?
  24. Well he's a guy who has issues repeating his delivery who was suddenly shut down for 9 days for no reason whatsoever. I'd have been shocked if he COULD find the strike zone.
