  1. Why would anyone select Landa in the Rule 5 draft, and have to carry him on the mlb roster, when they could have just signed him as a minor league free agent?
  2. Punto played SS, 2B, and 3B. He has 52 innings in his career in the OF, and 6 at 1B. I'm quite sure that anyone who can play elite defense at SS can also play 2B and 3B.
  3. Agree on the sentiment, but Joe and his wife don't even live in Minnesota anymore.
  4. No, I don't. If my favorite restaurant keeps serving me overcooked steaks, it's not my job to go into the kitchen and show them how to cook them. It's on them to figure it out or lose my business. I have already said I don't care HOW they do it, just that it gets better.
  5. The sentiment is that Urias is untouchable for Dozier. You can't really compare the return for Sale to Dozier. For a player of Sale's caliber, perhaps Urias could be had. Not happening for Dozier though.
  6. I'm always skeptical that guys with zero power can carry their milb OBP over to the majors. MLB pitchers throw strikes when they have nothing to fear. I'd be happily surprised if he can OPS .640 or better. I could live with that if his defense is elite.
  7. I think he'll struggle to clear a .600 OPS. I don't think that's good enough, even with elite defense.
  8. Actually you see several free agents do this every single season. If he can be had on a 1 year deal then he likely doesn't have a ton of options.
  9. No, the Twins previous regime did explicitly decide roster spots based on ST performance, often.
  10. Not only that, but the poster he we replying to didn't even dispute that leadership is a thing, he just pointed out that it's a tough thing to measure.
  11. It would have a lot of value. Even if he doesn't outperform his value in an extra year or two into his FA years, he's not likely to underperform them. And there is a ton of value in getting him at 32 and 33 at a fair price without having to commit to his later years- which is what someone is going to have to commit to in free agency.
  12. Which numbers are you talking about? Can you put some numbers into context that show him to be sub par defensively? Can you cite a single source that says his fielding is subpar?
  13. Vielma's fielding is not sub par. It's widely considered the best in the organization and among the best in all of the minor leagues. That said, I don't think he'll be able to hit enough. Some think he can, we'll see.
  14. I sure hope the new regime is not letting jobs be won or lost in Spring Training. That was one of my biggest issues with the previous regime. Spring Training is for getting ready for the season, not statistical analysis. There doesn't appear to be any correlation between ST results and regular season results.
  15. When I first heard the news break I was bummed. Not a big fan of Johnson's drafts. But to echo a couple posters, this appears to be a "promotion" out of that responsibility. That is a good thing, IMO.
  16. True, it's not impossible to win the powerball. But, I sure wouldn't plan on it. The Dodgers would be crazy to trade their top 2 prospects for Dozier- a good but not elite player. Maybe they are crazy, I hope they are.
  17. Why would I need a plan? How would I even be qualified to have one? I'm not a GM and the Wolves don't pay me. It's not my job to fix this mess. I'm just saying this clearly isn't a championship caliber roster, even once it's developed. That's on Thibs to figure out. I already said I don't care how it's done. If that means trades or Free Agency, I don't know. Every player is different, and has different motivations. You can watch how painful it is to KAT to lose. What is the max he can make if he leaves after his rookie deal? I think he'll survive on that. KAT looks to me to be one of the rare athletes that would put winning above making more money. I could be wrong, we'll see how it plays out. Yes, I do want to see Tyus more involved. Rubio is a solid defense, he's not their best defender. Defense, while a problem, is not the only problem. The offense collapsing in second halves is also a problem. Now Rubio and Dunn have played better of late, so that's fine keep playing them for now. I guess I don't see why anyone would have an issue giving Tyus more minutes in what is going to be a 50+ loss season, given how awful Rubio and Dunn were playing at the time I said that. I'm not asking for helter skelter changes, let's not overstate my position. I'm talking about a smart trade or some FA pieces (impact ones, not roster filler) this offseason.
  18. KAT is going to make more money than he can spend no matter where he signs. He takes losing especially hard. Didn't Durant just leave OKC? Winning matters to some players. I am for trying Tyus, because what we are doing right now isn't working, and we are not making the playoffs either way.
  19. Escobar can play all 3 OF positions in an emergency, and Polanco can play the corners in an emergency.
  20. I'm saying you can still get a good deal without demanding their top 2 prospects. That just isn't happening. For Mike Trout? Sure. Not for Brian Dozier. You can make an unrealistic demand, fine. But that is the same as not even making an offer.
  21. So your stance is to keep Dozier? Asking for Urias or DeLeon AND Bellinger is just not realistic. Dozier is a nice player, and you should get a good deal or don't trade him. There are realistic trades with the Dodgers, but calling them and asking for 2 completely unrealistic packages or nothing is just insulting them.
  22. Yeah, there are no worthy candidates here. You start adding fringe guys like these and the honor gets watered down.
  23. I'm all for Grossman havinga role, as long as Molitor isn't allowed to use him in the field. Where we diverge is that I don't think Mollie can be trusted not to.
  24. Look on the bright side, we'd currently have the 3rd most ping pong balls.
