  1. Well fair enough, and if it's a violation, I won't object to someone snipping it down. But, I think it's the proper term for the way they are acting. Perhaps I should have phrased it as a verb instead of a noun, as I didn't mean for it to be an unfounded personal attack, rather an accurate descriptor of how I feel they are acting. I don't think it's harsh at all. At least, not nearly as harsh as they are being on this player who did exactly what he should have done. All I hear all the time, on here, at the watercooler, sports talk radio, twins columns, is why don't players take the free single when teams shift. This isn't even one of those things that I understand, but disagree with (like being upset for pumping a HR), I simply can't even understand how/ why they think anything was done wrong here. And, I can't respect players that feel so entitled, that they think their team gets to keep trying, but they are disrespected if the other team does as well. And then to actually whine about it out loud. It's very poor sportsmanship, and I just can't respect it.
  2. But I don't understand what there is for Berrios to take personally. If you are shifting the hitter, then you aren't playing like the game is over. Why is it wrong for one team to keep trying when the other team clearly still is? Also, a no hitter is a personal accomplishment, so that makes his behavior even worse, IMO, if that's why he's upset.
  3. Well, again, I didn't see the game. But it doesn't necessarily take consecutive "harmless" pitches to become one harmful pitch. Falling behind in the count gives the hitter an advantage. I get the point. But I think "less harmful", would be more accurate terminology. To me it depends on the situation. If you are up 0-2, absolutely waste a pitch, they might chase. In that scenario, I'd agree it's probably harmless. If you are already behind, or it's the first pitch of the AB, then I absolutely don't agree, as good hitters feast when they get ahead in the count.
  4. Prefaced with the fact I didn't watch the game. But, I don't think walks are harmless.
  5. I don't have a problem with that part of it. It appears it will be at the officials discretion, but don't commit a penalty that carries a potential ejection if you don't want to risk getting ejected. I'd compare it to arguing balls and strikes in baseball. Players aren't always ejected when they do so, but I don't feel bad for the ones that do, or find it controversial, because the players know that is the risk they are taking. And I'm not necessarily confident in anything. I'm just not willing to preemptively rip them when I haven't seen it enforced yet. I'll reserve judgement until we see it called.
  6. I certainly wouldn't have posted anything about 1 start, even if it was a 20k no hitter. 1 start is too small of sample size to mean anything whatsoever. Even 10 starts is far too small of a sample size. Starting pitchers need to be evaluated over a couple hundred innings at a time.
  7. Well I'm willing to wait to judge this rule on it's own. And this rule isn't vague at all, so I'm not sure why people think enforcement will be difficult. Having to call it a lot, while players adjust, is not the same as difficult to enforce. It seems very clearly defined, to me. If players can't adjust, that's on them, and they will find themselves out of work.
  8. Qualifying it with "it's only one start", doesn't change the fact that you are reacting to one start.
  9. One game sample size. It means exactly add much as LoMo's 2 game 0'fer. Which is nothing.
  10. It's not an automatic ejection, it just allows for an ejection. I imagine that will be reserved for repeat offenders. And you can still lower your helmet, just not to initiate contact with it. Can still go low and initiate contact with the shoulder. If guys can't adjust to the new rule, that's on them, there are plenty of other careers. Seems like the NFL can't win in this regard. If they give lip service to player safety, they get ripped for being disingenuous, but when they implement a rule with actual teeth, that will actually improve safety, they get ripped. And this actually encourages proper tackling, so IMO it doesn't lessen the game. Forming a habit of improper tackling (head down), shouldn't be an excuse for not being able to adjust.
  11. Throwing a tantrum like a spoiled child, ESPECIALLY towards an umpire that didn't even make the call, is pathetic, IMO. I remain on the fence about Molitor, but the fact that he doesn't pull childish garbage like this is definitely a plus for him in my book. And, not apologizing after the fact, and in fact seemingly taking pride in it, makes it even worse. Again, IMO.
  12. This speaks volumes about the amount of skepticism the FO views Gordon with, IMO.
  13. Gibson still has a year of team control remaining.
  14. No manager is worth anywhere near 15 wins (or losses). If they were, the best ones would make upwards of $50 million per year.
  15. I'm not one for superstition, but I'll still throw this out there: in 2016 the Twins also opened the season by losing 3-2 at Baltimore on a walk off.
  16. Well yeah, but hitting better with RISP would qualify as playing better. And, you also won't hold your opponent to 2-9 with RISP every game. So, that logic cuts both ways.
  17. Don't want to do the math, but I'm skeptical that scoring 2 runs is going to get you anywhere near .500. It's just one game, so it means nothing, but they need to play a lot better than that IMO.
  18. I'm not a fan of pinch hitting for Buxton, or letting Castro hit.
  19. As did my responses. And you're right, it doesn't need to go any longer, we'll find out the results soon enough. Wasn't trying to start a "tangent", just don't think that even Butler can carry this squad past GS in a series. I don't find that to be an outlandish opinion, even if others disagree.
  20. I don't think Dozier was going to even entertain the idea of giving a discount on an extension. At least not a significant one.
  21. I was responding to a post about someone liking our chances as they stand now. Not a hypothetical about where we'd be if Butler hadn't gotten hurt.
  22. Just think how old you'll feel in 25 years when Vlad Guerrero III makes his debut.
  23. Well yeah, nobody is doubting that. I just question if even Butler can carry a team like this to a series win over Golden State. It's hard to overstate just how awful Memphis is, especially on the road. At some point, one guy, even one as awesome as Butler, can only carry so much of the load. Regardless, the great thing about sports is there are very few philosophical arguments. Soon enough we'll get to find out the answer!
  24. The only reference I could find was an article that stated, although he was born in Canada, he's spent most of his life in the Dominican Republic.
