Exactly. As a Twins fan, Duran is actually one of my favorite players. I strongly support his mental health journey and the awareness he brings to athletes. That's why the Target Field incident was so sickening—telling a player to kill himself, especially after they've been open about depression, is a horrific violation of human decency. Duran was completely right to flip that guy off. Now, victim and victimizer aren't mutually exclusive. We can recognize that Duran was entirely justified in that moment, while still acknowledging that his homophobic slur in a completely different game back in 2024 was wrong. We can defend a player's right to push back against cruelty while still holding them accountable to basic societal norms. Both things are true.
