  1. Count me in as a guy who's really hoping "P-Flo" catches on. With a nickname like that, he's sure to be a defensive "whiz". If I get to giggle like an idiot every time he takes the field, I'm OK with waiting another year before trying to make an upgrade at the position. I also agree that we may need to look to poach a promising Milb SS from a team with an established young SS already in the majors. Glad I'm sitting in my chair and not TR's. Finding above average hitting and fielding shortstops has NEVER been an easy proposition.
  2. Perhaps a veteran back-up catcher is an even bigger priority now with Doumit gone and Pinto's shoulder being a bit of an uncertainty. Any ideas who may be available (other than Lobaton)? Looks like we have some depth to spare with back end of the rotation types. It would be nice to fill in some gaps in other spots.
  3. If the club is fairly certain that Diamond and Worley are unlikely to click as starters, I hope they are exploring interest from other clubs. Neither is too far removed from very solid seasons. There may be a team or two that would be willing to flip a reasonable prospect or even a legitimate player who could compete for time on our roster. Wouldn't mind if they found a third baseman that can make contact vs. righties, a veteran catcher and/or an upgrade at shortstop. I'd hate to DFA them if there was a chance to use them to improve elsewhere.
  4. In addition to loving the Twins, I'm also a lifelong Reds fan. I've slowly come around to appreciate Arroyo. I used to be down on him because he has no velocity and his leg kick and occasional corn-rows seem like attention seeking novelties. But he's been extremely consistent and reliable through the years and it's not like we have to worry about him losing (more) zip on his fastball. Two years would be great, I fine with three.
  5. A bunch of road games at Fenway probably don't help a pitcher's stats much, either...
  6. Before we get too upset, just think of the massive haul we made when those players left. We grabbed the infamous Jim Hoey and...umm...whoops. Nevermind.
  7. I know it's a bit sketchy to mess with a guy who just had a breakthrough season, but given our second base depth, is it impossible to think that Dozier could get another chance at short? I know it's unlikely, but does anyone think it's possible?
  8. I love the info and I'm excited about the state the organization. Seems like we have a solid number of pitching prospects and may be able to draft the best players available rather than focus only on drafting pitchers who wouldn't likely be ready for the big club for a number of years anyway...
  9. Ahhh...the rare and elusive optimistic post! It'll be an absolute blast to watch the next 2 years while the roster starts to turn over. Plenty reasons for Twins fans to show enthusiasm. Thanks, Brock! Go Twins!
  10. I think Gene Larkin deserves a little bump on the list for clutch hitting...but then again, I might be biased.
  11. Nick - I really enjoyed your article and completely grasped your meaning. I'm sorry there are some that many are so quick to attack and jump to conclusions that they fail to read your actual words (and punctuation?). Maybe we could avoid worthless arguments if we weren't so quick to rush to harsh judgement. I'm surprised people are still arguing with you about it. I would have been embarrassed if I'd misread and misinterpreted an article so badly. Perhaps if they were to go back and reread the article, they could move on. Thanks for what you do. I truly appreciate your insight.
  12. Borbon doesn't feel like a long-term fit given our organizational depth. Hopefully Mastroianni gets healthy, Hicks calms down and/or Benson figures it out enough to hold down the fort until Buxton is ready. That being said, he might fit nicely in the present. Any steam on whether the Twins are interested in Charlie Leesman? Lefty put up solid stats in AAA last year and is a former Twins draft pick...
  13. If the "Best Player Available" clearly has more potential than the available pitchers, please take the best player available. It's rare that a draft pick has immediate impact on the major league club. There's no way to know what the organization's primary needs will be 3 years from now, therefore, take the player with the highest ceiling.
  14. Trevor Hoffman was a shortstop in the Reds organization before moving on and giving it a try as a relief pitcher (oops). It makes sense that he wouldn't have a fully developed starter's repertoire having not previously pitched as a professional.
  15. Thanks, Thrylos! I'm new to the TD community this year, but I already appreciate your posts!
  16. Casper has got some pop, but he tends to disappear at times...
  17. "To clarify, again. Nobody hates Correia." I think there are many whose misguided frustrations target the player, not GM who signed him or the manager who hands him the ball. It seems like some already hate Correia despite his not yet throwing a regular season pitch for the Twins. I don't hate him, and you don't hate him, but it smells a little like many others do. That being said, I'm not as down on him as most and think he will be serviceable on the mound and valuable in the clubhouse for the wave of young pitchers soon heading our way. I also am not as angry with TR/Gardy as many seem to be. As an optimist, I tend to take a wait and see approach and I understand that they know more about the game than I do. As a realistic-optimist, I also believe that this season will be a long one which isn't likely to bring us anywhere near .500 on the season. We will, however, be given reasons to be genuinely excited about 2014 and especially 2015 and beyond.
  18. Is Danny Rams strictly a left fielder from now on? It would be nice to had a little pop coming up at the position...
  19. I've been a teacher for 16 years and I certainly wish we made more money, but this has nothing to do with morality. This is an economic issue. It has everything to do with what the player is worth and treating him fairly (economically, not morally). If I could get 40,000 people to pay $20 a pop to watch me teach an Economics lesson, I'd get a $1.8 million signing bonus, too.
  20. mnfanforlife, I hope you don't take my disagreeing with your opinion as an attack that requires a brusque response. None of my posts were meant to cause you to become angry, upset or annoyed. I actually really appreciate your generating a fun discussion. I'm just having trouble understanding your logic. I get that the Twins have holes at the Major League level, but don't agree that they should fast-track someone based on need with the big club. If that player proves to be ready, then by all means, move him! Otherwise, I guess I'd rather use a more conservative approach to ensure proper development. I think we all hope that Rosario's skills catch up with his talent and I'd love for that to happen sooner rather than later. Time will tell. Thanks for helping me get fired up for the season!
  21. Evidently, it's difficult for some to understand the importance of development at the proper pace. If someone is moved too quickly, it can shatter confidence and hinder development. I think this why the Mike Trouts of the world are so rare. Very few are capable of making the leap that quickly...or do you believe that Eddie Rosario is at Trout's level? I wish that were so, but I'm guessing he is not. The Twins are not the only organization that develops players at a deliberate pace.
  22. It's fun to speculate, but this feels a little like we're running barefoot through the tall grass of Fantasy Land. He's a great talent and we're excited about his potential, but we need to calm down about him being ready this September. I don't think we can comprehend the huge leap there is between each level. I hope we let him develop and learn (defensively and offensively) and hope he's ready for a 2014 September call-up. I also have a hard time when we make the Trout comparisons. Trout is an other-worldly talent who was a plug-in plus defender and went on an absolute tear. Rosario is not Mike Trout on defense or offense. The vast majority of players in every organization take time to develop. The Mike Trouts or Bryce Harpers are extremely rare. (And neither of them had to learn 2B.)
  23. I'm hoping Terry Ryan has the Rangers cued up on speed dial. Once a week, TR should fake a butt-dial and hope it generates a discussion.
  24. If Slama earns a shot (difficult to judge him based on his first actual outing of Spring Training), he needs to have a spot on the 25 man roster. Does anyone believe that Swarzak would get plucked if we removed him from the 40 man roster and gave Slama a shot? Does anyone think the organization would crumble if a team did pluck Swarzak?
  25. It will likely be tough sledding for the next season or two, but it's nice to have legitimate reasons for optimism in the not-so-distant future...
