  1. This. And while I wouldn't use 'dynamic' to describe Farmer and Solano, they too were multi-positional role players and while far from perfect, they were productive and always ready to play.
  2. A few years back, before the front office got more imaginative and aggressive, I was under the impression that either Falvey or Levine had a direct line to guys like Olney and Heyman because we'd always hear, after the fact, that the Twins were the 'mystery team' bidding for a high-priced free agent like Darvish or Harper. This reminds me very much of that. There's zero chance of the Twins pursuing Ohtani and there's even less of a chance of Ohtani's camp entertaining what the Twins could offer.
  3. The idea of Soto is pretty intriguing but I think the Padres can get a better haul of prospects - especially from a big market team that has intentions of keeping him long-term. For the Twins, he'd be a rental and that would definitely limit what they were willing to give up.
  4. I think the headline reads far worse than the actual reality of the situation. The Twins were never going to bring in a high-priced free agent pitcher to replace Gray. Would've been nice, but it was a pipe dream. I think the Twins are more likely to try and leverage top prospects for a starting pitcher making less than Gray and one that is under team control for 2+ seasons. I have no idea what pitchers fall into that category or what the market for those pitchers will be but the Twins have done it before and they'll likely do it again. Loved Farmer's leadership but there isn't a better leader in baseball than Carlos Correa and if the Twins are looking to free up some $$$, Farmer's gone. That was probably the case regardless of the recent payroll news.
  5. Don't like the idea but wouldn't be shocked if the Twins re-signed Mahle similar to the way they did with Paddack and Pineda. Maybe a 2 year deal (2024 and 2025) with a club option for 2026. Let Varland start in the rotation and see if Mahle can come back in July or August.
  6. What's the largest contract the Twins have given to a free agent pitcher? Is it still Ervin Santana at $40MM / 4 years? Market's obviously changed a lot and I don't know how that contract would translate to the current market. But I would be absolutely shocked if the Twins are even in on any one of these pitchers. Would absolutely love #2 or #3 though.
  7. Lopez is the clear-cut #1. I think Paddack, Ryan and Ober all have the ceiling of a #3 starter. I don't see a legit #2. I also don't see the Twins paying that kind of pitcher in free agency so the trade market seems more likely but I have no idea what the market will be set at and the Twins may have to up the ante beyond position players.
  8. What could... Jorge Polanco Trevor Larnach Austin Martin Fetch back in a trade for a starting pitcher....
  9. Is Severino still considered a 'prospect' at this point? He's 24 but only has a handful of AB's at AAA. Wondering if there's still some upside...
  10. Good question, and I don't necessarily know the answer but I would think the starting point is a team being conscious of cost and wanting to keep payroll down.
  11. How much do you follow the NBA? Reason I ask is because tampering is basically an accepted norm now. Free agency opens on July 1st at 6:00 PM EST and deals are being announced at 6:01 PM. You also have players under contract forcing their way to preferred destinations - that's not by accident. I do think it is less frequent in the NFL and Brady was an outlier. But, in the NBA - it's rampant...
  12. This. Would be reluctant to trade him because it all-but guarantees a revolving door at catcher for the foreseeable future. How the organization looks at Jeffers - i.e., the post-season starts over Vazquez - make it pretty certain that he isn't going anywhere.
  13. Great news. Still really high on AK. I think he has the potential to be an all-star caliber 1B - if he can stay healthy.
  14. Would the Twins be tempted to trade Festa for an established MLB starting pitcher with multiple years of control? Would Festa alone be enough to get that kind of trade done, or would the Twins need to add position players? A lot depends on what the trade market looks like - with the free agent class not being great and with the Twins unlikely to dip their toe into that end of the pool, trading for a pitcher always seems like their preferred path. Additionally, a lot will depend on how Ryan, Ober and Varland are viewed internally - are they seen as future core pieces of the rotation or are they seen as guys with limited ceilings, i.e., 4/5 starters.
  15. Had the Twins managed to get a runner on base for Correa in game 4, I have no doubt there would've been a game 5. Very few hitters I'd rather have up in a big spot.
  16. Twins front office has grown accustomed to doing the unexpected. I expect something similar this off-season.
  17. Falvey and Levine usually have at least one surprise move in the off-season. Wouldn't be shocked if the opening day first baseman is someone that no one saw coming.
  18. I wouldn't be shocked if Gray is back for 2 or 3 years. At least on the surface, he seems to now be on the same page with Rocco and seems to have a great relationship with his teammates. I know what's been said about his wanting one final payday but this is a guy who absolutely imploded in New York. I just don't think he's cut out for a big market team and if the Twins can offer something reasonably close in terms of $$$, I think he stays. Admittedly, 'reasonably' is a very subjective term and that could sway things.
  19. The front office for better or worse typically pulls surprises in the off-season. In 2019, it was Nelson Cruz. In 2020, it was Josh Donaldson and the Maeda trade. In 2022, it was Carlos Correa and Sonny Gray. In 2023, it was Correa again and Pablo. I suspect we'll see something similar this winter - something unexpected and something that causes a lot of angst for some and lot of optimism for others - much like the Arraez trade was loved and hated at the same time.
  20. This series, like the ones before it, came down to the Twins' inability to get a big hit. Until they either change their approach or improve the line-up, I'm not sure when it will be our turn. Long, long overdue.
  21. Right thread. Working to sooth anyone that's still angry.
  22. Also, I'm calling it. Ryan pulls his Joe Cool routine that he showed as a rookie and keeps the Astros in check. 6 innings. 1 ER. 7 Ks. Twins bats come alive thanks to Correa and Barrels. Twins head back to Houston with a 5-2 win.
  23. AK and Wallner have a bright future but you need the surer things tonight. Barrels and Castro make sense.
  24. 4 innings from Joe Ryan. 3 innings from The Sheriff. 1 inning from Jax. 1 inning from Duran. See you guys on Friday! Dare to dream...
