  1. Joe Ryan's career 2nd half ERA is 4.96. That's higher than 4.75! He's terrible in the 2nd half, that's who he is. Zebby pitching instead of 2nd Half Joe helped this team. Zebby had a 2.90 ERA in 5 starts. The rotation ERA would have been much worse if 2nd Half Joe was getting those starts instead of Zebby. Also, the Twins are 11-12 in games started by Joe Ryan this year. Saying the Twins would have won 2-4 more games with 2nd Half Joe is absurd. And again, every team has injuries and the Twins have been middle of the pack this year. Blaming a bad August on 1 pitching injury is such a loser mindset. May as well blame it on fans not showing up at the park.
  2. Because Tommy didn't actually do anything to be competitive and aim for a World Series. The message was just that, a message. An attempt to lie to fans in order to boost attendance so the Pohlads can sell the team for billions. There was nothing concrete behind the message. "We're aiming for the World Series, here's a $100m payroll" doesn't compute if you are paying attention. The Twins were a bad team last year and didn't do much of anything to improve the team. The best GM in the world isn't turning a 72 win team into a 90 win team while cutting payroll to $100m. Like with any organization, the buck stops at the top.
  3. The way he had been pitching, yes, almost definitely! It led to Zebby getting more starts and Zebby was great. A healthy Joe Ryan was busy giving up 6 HR to the 27 Yankees Guardians. Blaming a bad year on injuries is such loser talk. Every single team could use this excuse if they wanted.
  4. One of my goals for 2026 was giving Lee, Lewis, Keaschall, Wallner a full season - just let 'em play, and see if they are part of the future. And to the Twins credit I think they accomplished this, at least for 3 of the 4 (Lewis is an open question IMO). The team needs to develop and utilize its own talent and I still think there's room for Lee to grow both offensively and defensively. I'm very happy that the Twins gave him the full season there, even when he started slow. He's locked into 3B for me. I doubt he's ever going to be a star but as folks have mentioned, a 3 WAR player is within reach and that would make him above average. Frustrating year in many aspects but for me Lee's progress is a very positive development.
  5. Can't disagree more. If a business isn't meeting its goals it is absolutely worth figuring out what is going wrong. How can you fix something if you don't diagnose the problem?
  6. He also approved more than $8 million in prorated salary at this year's Trade Deadline. No way, a whole $8 million? That's 80% of what the team is paying Carlos Correa to play for another team! What a kind and generous overlord, raising our payroll from 22nd in the league to...22nd in the league! If he would have contributed only $38 million more we'd pull even with the large market Kansas City Royals. Before the season Tommy said he wanted to be judged not on payroll, but on wins and losses. In accordance with his wishes, he should be judged for this season. It will be interesting to see how he spins this, and how many fans just lap it up and refuse to believe the team's CEO has any accountability for the team's performance.
  7. The guy who's hurt and melts down every second half and recently tied an MLB record for HRs given up in a game? It's just so unfortunate that the Twins are the only team impacted by pitching injuries.
  8. Insane premise. Jenkins isn't going to "answer any questions" in 1 month of baseball, and any front office that makes any decisions based on a rookie's first month should be fired into the sun. Let the kid grow and develop. My goodness.
  9. I hear ya. Personally, Joe Ryan is going to have to show me he can get through a full season and be a playoff starter. Folks forget but the Twins skipped Ryan's start in the 2023 ALDS Game 1 even though he was on full rest - even the Twins are skeptical he's an October starter. And all due respect to Lopez but I don't think it would be wise to assume he's going to be the same guy pre-surgery. Hopefully he is, but he's also on the wrong side of 30 now. I'm very optimistic about Bradley's future, and he's almost certainly our best starter, but he's unproven in the playoffs. Plus, of those 3 guys you mention, 2 of them are currently hurt and also have a history of injuries. Your question is an interesting one. Would fans prefer stronger 5-8 starters, or a stronger #2 or #3 and use AAA pitchers to fill out the back end? I'm firmly in the "Twins need to raise the ceiling not the floor" camp, but definitely can understand the alternative.
  10. To be clear I'm not starting multiple 4-7 starters out of fear...I'm doing it because the team has shown year after year that it takes that many starters to get through a 162 game season with all the injuries. If I can get through the year with 5 starters I'm doing that, but I'm going into the season with a plan for when the inevitable injuries hit. Kind of like the Buxton situation - having a solid backup CF plan isn't about fear, it's just smart planning.
  11. That's fair and it sounds like maybe we differ on Kremer's ceiling. And also $7-$8m isn't terribly unreasonable in a vacuum, for sure - especially if you view him as a #3-4. Personally I think we're at a point where we are going to be better off with one $20m "star" contract vs several "reasonable" $7-$8m deals.
  12. I think most people agree we need more than 5 starters, that's not the issue. I think some folks are saying starters 5-8 are pretty interchangeable and if the Twins really want to take the next step - from a 75-ish win team to say an 85-ish win playoff team, they need better talent, and that the money Kremer would get might be better spent (in combination with other $ of course) on a high end starter, at least someone who would be in a potential playoff rotation. There are certainly cheaper options, either internally or externally, than Kremer's $7m/year to fill those 5-8 starter roles. If we as fans want the Twins to legitimately contend, we have to stop focusing on keeping average talent around simply because they've worn the Twins jersey for a while, and start focusing on how to raise the ceiling of this team by replacing average (and below-average) talent with above-average talent. We need needle movers. It's not that Dean Kremer can't be a #5/6/7 guy, It's that #5/6/7 guys don't win you playoff series, dozens are available every offseason, and the Twins resources are finite, so it's not worth paying a premium for Dean Kremer.
  13. Right. I keep seeing this idea that "if they called him up a week earlier it wouldn't have made a difference." A week earlier they were in playoff position! Who knows what would have happened?
  14. Fair but I'd say the net of those two numbers is 60% of a good player since that's the average amount of games/season he has played for his career.
  15. This sounds about right. The Pohlad goal is and remains selling the team for a price they believe they deserve. In that effort Tommy has been about as successful as can be in at least treading water vs another 90 loss debacle. His propaganda campaign has been really effective in convincing rubes that a season in which they are merely a few games ahead of last year's disastrous pace has been "different" somehow. Remember the "limited partners" and how that influx of cash was going to help the baseball team? What ever happened to those guys? Folks around here were really excited and swore this was going to help the Twins big time. The Pohlads couldn't stop gushing about these guys. What actually happened? Tommy started the season with a $100m payroll and we haven't heard a peep about the partners. Pay attention to what a Pohlad does, not what he says. The Pohlads make much more sense when you view everything they do or say through the lens of money. To them the Twins may as well be a widget factory.
  16. This is the best, objective, concise way to describe both the Buxton problem, and the Buxton solution. There's really nothing more to be said. I would have thought the red-assed "injuries are moral failings" takes would have died out with Mauer but alas...
  17. The idea that replacing worse players with better ones won't help the Twins at all is one of the more baffling things about the whole Jenkins saga. I truly don't understand this thinking. No one is saying they would have won the Series if they called him up in June. It's just frankly insane to think that calling up Tristan Gray when Buxton went down the first time, or keeping an empty bench spot the most recent time, or trotting out Concrete Glove Keaschall in CF "helped the team" more than calling up Jenkins would have. The Twins are not good enough. They need a substantial injection of talent. The Twins need more Jenkins and Culpeppers, less Grays and Jacksons.
  18. The Milwaukee Brewers are playing in the same ocean and their boat seems to be floating just fine.
  19. Obviously you didn't read the post. It compared this deadline to last year, when they traded 10 MLB players. " Radically different" is very accurate.
  20. Better late than never. Really excited to see what he can do. Let the growing pains begin!
  21. My AI slop disagrees with your AI slop. See how easy and meaningless this is? When you post AI slop and accuse others of being lazy, seriously dude, look in the mirror. Why Center Field is Hardest Vast Territory: Center fielders must cover the most ground, patrolling both the left-center and right-center gaps. [1, 2, 3, 4] Deepest Area: The center field wall is usually the furthest point from home plate in a ballpark. [1] Leadership Role: Center fielders act as the "quarterbacks" of the outfield, calling off the left and right fielders on fly balls to avoid collisions. High Workload: According to MLB.com Statcast data, center fielders are expected to make significantly more plays per season—and cover more difficult ground—than any corner outfielder. [1] Comparing the Outfield Positions Left Field (Easiest): Generally regarded as the least demanding outfield spot. Left fielders cover less ground on average and typically do not require as strong of a throwing arm, since the throw to third base or home plate is shorter. [1, 2, 3] Right Field (More difficult than Left): While right fielders may cover slightly less total range than center fielders, right field requires a premier throwing arm to make long throws to third base or home. Fielders also deal with the tricky "slice" spin on balls hit to the opposite field by right-handed batters. [1, 2, 3] The Defensive Spectrum: In baseball analytics, center field sits much higher on the defensive spectrum than the corner spots, meaning it requires rare speed, elite tracking instincts, and a high level of athleticism. [1, 2, 3]
  22. Ah yes, nothing says "I've researched my opinion thoroughly" and "I am interested in facts" like copy-pasting AI slop.
  23. Lol. Yes, every ball hit to center is just a straight simple can of corn. All you gotta do is open and close that glove. Maybe that's why Keaschall is struggling so much, nobody asked him "Hey Luke, are you remembering to open and close your glove at the right time?" I think you're on to something!
  24. Like I said, I want to give them the benefit of the doubt. What possible reason could there be for sitting one of the best prospects in baseball in a position of need in favor of an empty spot on the bench? All the previous excuses - "not ready"....preserve ROY....no room for him....still not ready....service clock...."he's ready but it's not just about performance"..."what are you gonna do, sit Trevor Larnach?" - have all come to pass.
