  1. Or the fact that he was absolutely terrible last year.
  2. This should be labeled as sponsored content. I hope the Twins paid you for this.
  3. Or maybe, like many things in life, it isn't black and white. The Pohlads definitely handcuffed Falvey at times, but look around the league (ahem, Milwaukee) - plenty of GMs are finding success with smaller payrolls. Heck, just look around the AL Central. Falvey had 9 years. That's more runway than most owners would give a GM with so little to show for it (1 ALDS game win). And Falvey had the tremendous fortune of being in an extremely, at times historically, weak division. Having the largest payroll in a weak division should lead to more success than 1 playoff appearance in 5 years. Falvey deserves part of the blame. As do the Pohlads.
  4. As a fellow member of Team Rebuild this is where I am at. When T3 says "we have to be good in 2026" he means they have to make a bunch of money in 2026. And T3 thinks a rebuild will hurt the gate.
  5. Tom first appeared at a press conference (with Joe) back in October. I suspect he's been involved since the trade deadline/end of season.
  6. Ope, Dave St Peter actually already did this in September 2023. Tough Talkin' Tom has gestured toward fan-blaming too so it'll be interesting to see how he reacts when his "competitive" team is out of it by June 1.
  7. This....is a fascinating thing to say with the roster they have.
  8. Yeah the 2 likely scenarios here seem to be a) Falvey snapped and did a "FU, FU, FU, you're cool, FU I'm out"...or b) he said something like "if I don't get more resources to do my job I might have to consider my long term future" and Tommy the Terminator snapped and called him on his bluff.
  9. So if the Twins think Caratini is worth $7m and Jeffers $6.7m, that means Caratini is the primary catcher right? I'm trying to put together the puzzle of this offseason but I just can't get the pieces to fit.
  10. Good, objective piece. It's really hard to understand how Falvey views this roster because the moves he makes are so puzzling. He's in a tough spot personally, he knows his leash is short and probably disappears altogether if the team gets sold, so he's probably thinking the only way to save his job is through a miracle run in 26. So on one hand I get it. I just wonder if the pressure and stress is getting the best of him because there's just no coherence to what he's doing.
  11. Let's be fair to 3T. Relentlessly pursuing a championship must be exhausting.
  12. I'm not following the "proof of concept". The concept apparently is to spend 6 years worth of time, money, and resources developing a guy and then...dump him in order to...restart the process all over again with another player? This seems like constantly planning for a future 5 years down the road that never happens. In other words, the story of the last 3 decades of Twins fandom.
  13. $500k is approximately 0.01 % of the Pohlads net worth. 0.01% of the average American net worth is about $5. The Pohlads are holding out and further irritating one of its few good players over the equivalent of $5.
  14. So what? Fans have a right to feel however they want. If coming here makes you sick then don't. I hope you can see the irony of complaining about negativity. "All the negativity in this place sucks!" Stop being so negative! Be the change you want to see in the world!
  15. He is supposed to be happy with how the season ended? If you were a professional ballplayer who desperately wanted to win, would you be happy with the direction of the Twins?
  16. I don't understand your point. If it's not ok to make presumptions on a sports blog you are came to the wrong place. The Twins need better players, not "clubhouse guys". They had a legendary "leader" last year in Correa and the team was so bad they dumped him for nothing.
  17. Tough Talkin' Tom had the one tough press conference and has since disappeared. Maybe he held himself accountable to his own words and decided not to go big after all and simply go home instead. That's what I call relentless!
  18. Nothing says "relentless pursuit of a championship" like nickel and diming one of your better players who is already unhappy.
  19. Thanks, that's quite a bit higher than I would have assumed. In my mind the Japanese players are more free agents vs draft picks and I've given up hope that the Twins will ever be big players in that pool, but even separating out those players, I'm guessing the numbers are still high. Seems like this may be an underrated aspect of the Twins' struggles under Falvey. If they aren't shopping in the store that teams get 1/3 of their talent...and they aren't shopping in the big time FA market...then that puts all the more pressure on developing thru the MLB draft and winning trades.
  20. Interesting piece, I'm interested to read the series. To the question of how the Twins have done of late, they've done very poorly under Falvey. I don't think a single Falvey international signing has made the bigs. But I would be curious how this compares to the rest of the league. How many international signees are currently on MLB rosters? What's the average success rate? How do championship organizations like the Dodgers handle international signings? I'd be really interested in a correlation between payroll and international signings - it would seem to me that this is an area small or mid market teams can leverage a competitive advantage and that success in this area is critical for those teams, but who knows. Looking forward to the series!
  21. Good piece but a little muddled. Nick says the Twins were the worst team in baseball over the second half but then says .500 should be the reasonable goal for 26. How? How exactly are the Twins going to improve by 25 wins over their post-deadline pace by adding Josh Bell?
