  1. Fair point and I usually hate the "they just wanted it more" narrative. But man watching USA sleepwalk through that game vs Venezuela's high energy it sure seemed like that game meant more to them. Which probably should have been expected given the recent...geopolitical events in Venezuela.
  2. Holding Venezuela to 3 runs should have been plenty for this roster. USA lost the game because Venezuela wanted it more, played harder, hit better, pitched better, ran the bases better, played great D, didn't get rattled by the Harper homer, and flat out earned it. They were unquestionably the better team last night in every aspect of the game and Joe Ryan wouldn't have changed that.
  3. This is a fantastic analysis. I have hope for Em-Rod but hard to argue with your take.
  4. If Emma racks up -0.8 WAR in 30 games as a 29 year old Twin, and somehow looked even worse than that to the eye test, I am certain he will be lambasted here plenty.
  5. Handing James Outman a scholarship simply to avoid losing him, a guy who racked up -1 WAR last year in 1/3 of a season, "for nothing" is the kind of stubborn, counterproductive thinking that has plagued this organization for a decade.
  6. Still, this is the type of decision that reveals how an organization views its competitive timeline. If the Twins believe their window to contend remains open beyond the next two seasons, then extending López now could stabilize the top of the rotation for years to come. What window to contend? What competitive timeline?
  7. Yep this was a solid piece. These lineups would be much cooler with Rodriguez and/or Jenkins in them.
  8. If you're going to make an outlandish claim like "most important first half in history" you should probably at least touch on that history to try to persuade readers of the case you are trying to make. The Twins have been here since 1961. Judging by the piece I think what the writer meant to say is "get ready for the most important first half since 2023."
  9. Hahaha sure, sure, the Dodgers are one Matt Wallner away from competing lol and they'd gladly dump their one of their World Series heroes for a guy whose value to date is derived by hitting solo home runs in 6-1 losses when the team is out of the race by June. Brilliant. Why aren't any of these teams knocking down the Twins' door trying to get him then? Again, Wallner last year was barely replacement level. I appreciate that you like him, but just because you say dramatic things like "Every. Single. Team" doesn't make them true.
  10. Is wRC+ the only stat that matters? As others have mentioned he's essentially racked up his numbers in low leverage situations. I think Wallner is fine. I don't get the desire to either turn him into the worst player in Twins history or an MVP candidate though. Not every player needs to be a superstar. He's a 1 tool player, but it's a valuable tool. Put some high OBP guys in front of him in the lineup and let him swing away. I doubt "every single team in baseball" is frantically coming up with trades to find room for Matt Wallner and his 0.6 WAR in the lineup though.
  11. You and Chief make a great point here - fans are not monolithic. If there was a "one size fits all" to get butts in the seats, teams would have discovered it by now. Just like a baseball team needs to be able to win games in different ways in the playoffs, organizations need to be able to attract fans in different ways. Personally a .500 season doesn't get me excited, and given the choice between endless mediocrity and boom/bust I'll take the latter. And with this roster in particular I think 85 wins (starting to sniff the playoffs) would require historic overperformance and luck. But you are right, nothing is guaranteed and the risk is that the Pohlads could turn a 1-2 year rebuild into a lost decade a la the post-91 Twins.
  12. 10 minutes into spring training and the baseball gods tell T3 the same thing all available data is telling him: "you aren't competing this year". Will T3 listen? 10 minutes into spring training and the baseball gods punish the FO for not trading Lopez in the offseason. He literally has zero value now, and may not ever have much value again. There is a lesson to be learned here. Will T3 learn it?
  13. I think Zips was the one that projected 2 WAR for DaShawn Kiersey last year.
  14. "Vitriol is bad! Also I hate Dan Gladden so much that I made him my username and avatar and he must be fired immediately."
  15. The Twins have the type of offense where "1-9 hitters drive in 60-75 runs each"? They had 3 players drive in 60 runs last year. One got to 65. The Twins have a "decent bench" ????? Pass me the blunt bro!
  16. I am extremely curious as to the 20-24 offenses you think will be worse than the Twins'.
  17. Fair enough and you're right, this season SHOULD be about giving guys like Roden a shot. I'd honestly be much more interested in the season if that was the plan.
  18. How should we draw conclusions if not from his performance? It's not like he's a raw 18 year old. He's 26.
