To be fair there just aren't any promising outfielders in the minors that could spell Buxton for a bit and allow him to get healthy. Man, if only we had a top-10 CF waiting in the wings...ah well.

Absolutely! Some growing pains are always expected. But he looks like he not only belongs but could be a key piece of our next "core". Play him every day the rest of the year and hope he keeps developing upward.

I'm less concerned with where Buxton plays, as long as Buxton and Jenkins are opening day outfield starters in 2027.

This is such a strange comment. Of course he's been injured a lot. But he's still been their best player this year, and the best player on the team for several years now. And, like, PR? He has never come across as someone who loves or even likes the camera (he's no Carlos Correa). What PR are you referring to? If you keep getting "blasted" for suggesting that the team's WAR leader hasn't contributed on the field, it's probably because that take is factually just not true.

Nobody believes all our prospects are no-miss players, that's a strawman argument you keep having with yourself. You also never seem to consider that maybe, just maybe, the Twins are currently rostering several players who have a demonstrated lack of success at the MLB level. You seem to think it's better to rely on players who have played at MLB before, even if they were awful, than give a young guy a chance because all prospects don't work out. This sounds like Derek Falvey thinking! Worked out great for him. I would think by now this current Twins "core" has demonstrated to fans that they just aren't good enough, and they need better players. The roster needs to get significantly better. ESPN just did a list of the top 50 players in baseball, the Twins had 0. They aren't good enough. Continuing to hold back promising prospects in order to play older, worse AAAA players is a really poor strategy for a middle revenue team like the Twins. There are 3 ways to get better talent: trading assets, spending $$ in free agency, and developing your own talent. The Twins don't spend on high end free agents, so we are down to trades or development. I'll let you determine how well trading has worked for this club - similar to prospects, some work out, some don't. Teams like the Twins absolutely cannot be successful without developing and playing their own talent. Ask the Brewers or Rays. Enjoy the battle for 77 wins though.

They should just cut him, and frankly most of their prospects. Just no room for any of them on this talent-laden championship roster. What are you going to do, sit Austin Martin and his career .690 OPS and 0.7 WAR? Take the bat out of Ryan Kreidler's hands and his career .522 OPS and -0.4 WAR? Lunacy!

People should listen to the entire clip. For many of the Falvey/Rocco years, a lot of us questioned what we thought was an over reliance on analytics. And a lot of us have questioned the lack of a winning culture. Seems like Donaldson felt the same way. One player's opinion, but I think it would be silly to ignore it just because he's a red a$$.

Because he's a d-bag? I mean I don't like him either but I don't think that means he's not qualified to have an opinion. If anything I put more stock into a true outsider's opinion vs. someone who was in the organization for several years and likely knows a lot more people that would be offended by such a comment.

Glen Taylor was in fact so amazed to see that investing in winning can actually be a good financial strategy for the owner of a professional sports franchise that he sued to try to undo the sale he himself had initiated. One would hope the Pohlads drew some sort of lesson from this. Alas...

I generally agree with Donaldson, but the Twins drew 3 million fans in 1988 and 1992, and every home playoff game in franchise history has been a sellout. And they've outdrawn the Wild every season of the Wild's existence. Fans will support good MLB teams, problem is we just haven't had many.

Ya got me! They were too busy playing Matt Wallner, Austin Martin, James Outman, and Luke "Concrete Glove" Keaschall in the outfield to find time for Gray (or Jenkins) I guess.

Yep, better keep Jenkins down another year or two. He might have a learning curve at the MLB level and we absolutely can't have that. Much better to give MLB time to players who performed even worse at AAA, like Tristan Gray.

Yes, when are the Twins going to learn how dumb it is to play young, cheap players before they are fully polished, 100% complete MLB players who will step right in to All Star level production? This organization is going to be much more successful holding back young guys as long as possible, and instead filling out the roster with more expensive, washed 33 year old DHs on 1 year deals. This strategy has been so successful over the past 35 years that the team even won a divisional-round playoff series 24 years ago! Four, five more years of seasoning in St Paul and E-Rod will be on the cusp of a call up!

Tom Pohlad Commits to Higher Twins Payroll in 2027

Tom thinks Twins fans are stupid. The Pohlads ran a $160 mil payroll in 2023. This family is so dedicated to winning and running competitive payrolls that...the uncles stepped in, fired the failnephew who ran the high payroll, immediately told fans they were cutting payroll, and haven't sniffed that payroll since. This was not even 3 years ago. Tom first appeared in a Twins press conference in September, so he's been on the job almost a full year. His current payroll is $113m, up from $100m at the start of the season. Golden Rule of Minnesota Twins Fandom: Pay attention to what the Pohlads do, not what they say. -
