  1. As long as he's going through all the prep (opposing batters, etc) with Suzuki and soaking up knowledge, starting 2 of 5 games is just fine. In fact my only complaint so far is the 1 opportunity he had to pinch hit instead of Escobar in the White Sox series, and all things considered that is pretty minor.
  2. Sleep in, have a beer on the toilet, and watch an entire movie without wife or daughter interuption...at least thats what i would do.
  3. Hey, as long as he keeps throwing 1 hit ball, i dont care if he stops for tea with the queen between pitches.
  4. We were going to light him up anyway, so good move.
  5. Come on, play ball. I cant handle any more Joe Doucheray filling air time.
  6. I agree about not wanting to react to quickly after one whole series, although I and many others could see a problem with our 1-2-3 even before the season started. You're right, though, nothing wrong with letting things play out for a couple weeks to get a better picture of things. I just love playing with lineups. In a perfect world we could even drop Dozier to the 7 hole and go: Hicks Mauer Colobello/Hammer Arcia/Kubel Plouffe Dozier Suzuki/Pinto Floriman That moves Hicks to his natural spot (in this lineup), gets Mauer more ABs, allows whichever RH bat is hotter to support him in the 3 spot, and gets Dozier's bat to the bottom of the order for balance.
  7. Hicks looks very comfortable and confident to start the year. It took him a long time to look that way last year (did he ever?). Bottom line is the team needs him to leadoff and he looks capable right now. If you want to give him another series or two to build confidence, then maybe try Plouffe leading off? It's either that or plug Suzuki back into the 2 hole; worked for a game but not a good long term idea. Doz - Mauer - Hammer just isn't potent enough to lead our lineup.
  8. Count me in the optimism column that believes Plouffe has finally figured it out and Dozer is just getting his spring feet wet. However... Dozier needs to be in the 2 hole with Hicks leading off. That way, with Hicks on base and Mauer behind him, Dozier will get plenty of nice pitches to hit. Whether Mauer gets anything with Hammer backing him remains to be seen.
  9. Couldn't agree more. And I liked that he didn't a great catch in his second to last at bat effect his last one. I think .250 with a very healthy slugging % is in the cards for Oswaldo this year.
  10. I honestly saw a LOT of positives in this series. Plouffe looked very mature at the plate. Hicks looked comfortable and confident. Colo and Kubel could be very decent if they continue their platoon. I think we can adjust our lineup a bit now: Hicks Dozier Mauer Hammer Kubel/Colo Plouffe Arcia Suzuki Floriman Upgrades at SS and LF could make this lineup very solid. As is I think we could play .500 ball if our pitching succeeds.
  11. Start is spelled S T A R T, not S T O P.
  12. Drop the baby blues and i think you're on to something.
  13. Post to beat thus far, but i may be biased being a huge chess fan.
  14. Well, at least you said 7th or 8th and not "post game interview." I'll give you that.
  15. Very optimistic about this game. Historically we've had some success against Paulino. Hammer is 3/6 lifetime I believe, so this might be a good measure of where he is in relation to his past performances. I'm also calling a Correia quality start.
  16. Not necessarily disagreeing with anything I've read here, but I do believe that Escobar is/could be a much, much better hitter than Floriman. Escobar had a nice AVG in the minors and a great stretch to start the year last year. How can you all bemoan (perhaps rightly so) Floriman's bat and not feel that ANY substitution was for the good in that spot? That being said, Pinto should have been put in there. If you're not willing to give him that AB due to the catcher thing, AND you're not willing to let Mauer catch 2 innings, then drop Bartlett like's he's hot and bring up Hermann.
  17. Not super happy to see Suzuki ib tge 2 spot, but we'll see. Wish i was off work earlier.
  18. The real question is how much trade value Duensing's new baby will have.
  19. In my mind it will not depend on Hammer or Kubel, but on the young guys: Arcia, Dozier, Hicks etc. If those guys get on track we could score enough to win some games with our likely better pitching.
  20. Yes, absolutely. I am all for accountability for everyone, not just the players when appropriate. However, I do not believe Anderson was at fault for Worley's performance the past year and this spring. There's not a lot a pitching coach can do when a guy throws perfect in warmup and 30 minutes later he's serving up junk in the game. Tell him what and show him how, but in the end he must do it himself. Another point I'd like to make about accountability on this team is that we often only see the negative situations that arise. What if Correia and/or Pelfrey would have been just as bad as Vance without Anderson's guidance? What if getting .250 out of Plouffe is actually a win? We already know Dozier credits Bruno with turning his swing arouhd. Things like that that we just take as a natural course might very well indicate good leadership. Isn't it possible that the field leadership is actually getting great results with our current group of guys, and likely that many of the failures we've been seeing are a product of a poorer talent level than we'd prefer?
  21. So in your mind there is no room for blame on the player himself. Failure equates to a problem with the coaches or FO? You seem predisposed to give a free pass to the guy actually throwing the ball.
  22. I fully admit all the numbers in my post were guesstimates. Was I that far off though?
  23. That seems a bit of an overstatement. This year's Twins will score 5 runs a game and give up 4-5 runs a game. Back in the day when our offense struggled, Santana still went 17-6, and won a Cy Young with a 2.50ish ERA.
  24. I'd prefer to put this to rest, but I have to point out that some sort of "fan hierarchy" was hardly the main point of my initial post. I griped about all the pessimism and then wrote a longwinded rundown of why I thought the Twins wouldn't be worse than last year. Another poster chose to take one line out of 50 an make an issue of it so I responded. Regardless, I am ready to talk about something else if you all are.
