  1. Did ANYWHERE in the post I say rookies shouldn't come up if they struggle. Quite the contrary in that I stated he pitched long enough to get an idea what he needed to learn to be successful. I am sorry I sould have used more words to explain my idea for you, for you clearly missed what I was getting at. Gibson did not pitch so well in his time up in the majors in 2013 that anyone should complain that he was held back because of AAAA pitchers and piters on the disabled list. He had time to struggle a bit to make the adjustments but not so much time to crush any confidence he had, if a 5+ ERA would ruin his belief in himself. Learning did happen as Gibson had a fine 2014. It is quite possible that the Twins brain trust handled Gibson appropriately. Nice straw man Levi
  2. Steamer predicts that Garcia, Eaton and Cabrera will be defensive liabilities. I thought winter was the time to be overly optimistic about your club and pessimistic about the moves of the competitor's club. Here is praise for the White Sox despite the defensive shortcomings and on other threads Hunter is ripped for defense. Steamer likes Hunter's defense almost as much as Garcia's and a lot more than Melky's. .
  3. Nolasco had a career high BABIP. The number of line drives, ground balls and fly balls were about the same as always. ERA tanked. Do you think maybe there was a little problem with outfield defense?
  4. in 2013 Gibson wasn't in spring training to win a spot on the roster. . I would think that you are also forgeting that Gibson had not pitched many innings the year before, he would be on an innings limit, and that no rookie was going to come out of spring tranning with those conditions and pitching as poorly as he was. When he did get up here, he pitched enough innings to get an idea of what it takes as well as displaying he needed to get that idea by the following spring or be back in Rochester. Also, I would think most fans could remember that Cole DeVries was on the dl, and the immortal PJ Walter pitched about as well as Gibson did
  5. Major league teams get reams of data on players. Is that same data available to help out the minor league managers. 4/46 mil for Robertson, 18 for Gregerson, 3/15 for Duke, 2/12 for Heshek, and 2/10 for Hochevar. Did the trade value for Perkins just go up dramatically from last year as he has 4 years and 24 milllion on his contract?
  6. How short memories are. The Dodgers traded for Nolasco on a stretch run. So I guess that would be one contending team that wanted a Nolasco. Milone, The Phillies went out and got Jamie Moyer for a stretch run. Gibson is developing. Smyly and Porcello were developed at the back of Detroit's rotation. When they got further developed, look at the return Detroit got.
  7. Look what Detroit received for Porcello. Dozier alone might get you someone equivalent to Kyle Gibson
  8. I love the sell high comments people make. Which bullpen arm is the strikeout machine other than Perkins. Selling a Twins' bullpen arm would net you a Dustin Martin. Willingham have value after a big season. Which GM did not know his injury history? If he is healthy and you need a bat in the middle of the season he has value. As a cornerstone on a 2 year contract I really doubt he had value beyond say a soft tossing left hander. Collect too many of them and you lose them in rule v Epstien signed Edwin Jackson to a 4 year contract, Nate Shierholtz to a 2 year contract, Scott Bakertfor 5 mil, Fujikawa for 9. Yep That Epstien/Hoyer duo do not sign bad contracts. Hunter on a one year deal. What other outfielder out there would their defense be so great as to ofset an anemic bat?
  9. The shot could be over 3 years to hit the 25-30HR. He did not say how long of time period he had to do it, only that he could hit that many for Toronto.. Heck, even Joe Mauer could hit 25-30 HR in a 3 year span.
  10. Taking almost 5 years to get through most of the levels of the minor leagues is rushing a prospect?
  11. You lost me once you claimed Beckham was rushed to the majors. He had success in the minors and had multiple years to show what he was capable of at the major league level. . Beckham had a good first year in the majors. He regressed and years later did not get back to previous levels. There is no rushing because spending only a short time in the minors.
  12. Of the relievers you wondered why the Twins did not trade, which one is the flamethrowing out machine?
  13. Any player should be tradebait if the price is right.
  14. Hmm. Tewksbury miht have been washed up but his ERA was under 4.5 Rick Porcello was mentioned as a trade target and his career ERA is within what Tewksbuy's was. Just a nitpick. Look over the list of players that are free agents. When Hunter was signed what other option was there on the market. At the end of the year in hindsight you could point to an all star team of inexpensive players. What inexpensive rf should have they taken? Hunter had a poor series against the Angels, every other series he was more than respecable. To denigrate Hunter because the team sucked is a needless attempt to manipulate without using fact.
  15. When defensive metrics encompase all aspects of defense I would imagine ball players will embrace them. As of now they pretty much only count how much area they can cover and if they can catch the ball. I think there is a little more to defense than that. Even in terms of catching the ball, Parker refers to inside edge statistics. They have a catagory called impossible catches that are made. Some have more than others. The numbers for some are significantly more than others and are significant to the number of plays a fielder makes. If the player makes the play, it is not impossible. When the stats type people get a brillian idea and figure it out a better way to measure defense, the players will believe as much as they do in offensive measurements.
  16. You might be right. The pitching coach in Cleveland must not know what he is looking at or very good at making pitchers better. Risk involved? I supose you can trade one poor pitcher on the 40 man for another, but I would think one of the better pitching coaches in the league knew what he was looking at for the last month of the season When players were drafted really doesn't matter much after they are signed. A 95 or more fastball can be had in the later rounds as well as the first. At one point you have higher potential than someone else. That is reflected in draft position. At some point that draft number does not matter. I would think it comes in the high minors. Draft position=potential. Promotions means skills.
  17. There is a reason Cleveland let him go. My best guess is that Price suffers from Hoey disease. It is similar to Gray's disease, although it differs in that the team figures it out much quicker.
  18. You are too polite
  19. The last pitching coach turned manager in Minnesota the problem was personality more than knowledge. Farell was a pitching coach. Does a retty good job. Perhaps the makeup of a good pitching coach is different than whatit takes to manage
  20. Depends on how the payer played the game. Not evey player is going to be cerebral, nor pay atention to what other positions do. There have been a few outfieldes here that have not lived up to their draft position that I would doubt they unerstand metrics, infield play, or pitching (besides swing and miss)
  21. 357 million in revenue vs 221 million. I would think Boston could have a few more 20 million a year contracts than the Twins
  22. The sky is falling
  23. Why is this an issue? Pamelee can hit minor league pitching. He has proved it time and again. Is it ant big deal that he gets to face Yohan Pino in Venzuala
  24. The White sox now have the 1b, dh, ss and primary catcher lined up fairly well. That is unless father time catches up to a couple of the approaching codger status players. Yup, a pretty good pitching staff for starters. Sale and Quintana are good. Now they have one good reliever, although it was the first year in a long time that he pitched a full seson. He is also approaching codger status. Still need another set up man and a closer to make some semblace of a bullpen. They will need it to go along with dominant starters because Laroche alone is not that great of an upgrade over Dunn/Konerko to lift the anemic offense from being the second worse in the AL to respectable
  25. I would think that major league ready could be defined as the player has the tools to learn what to do at the major league level. They would also think it would mean the player will show the ability to adjust, adapt, and overcome.
