  1. Thanks for a very good thread, jokin. His quotes indicate awareness and maturity. It's nice to have a few more pitchers around that are critical of themselves to some degree. Pelfrey may be struggling, but at least he's not making excuses, and you have to like May's attitude.
  2. Well, maybe half bad and a little more, but better....
  3. Quit making so much sense, Chief. Someone's gonna confiscate your voter registration card yadda yadda...
  4. Cedar Rapids and Ft. Myers are a combined 21-3. Impressive.
  5. No reason to get worked up about two weeks of AAA performance, especially minus several pitchers (Deduno, DeVries/Hernandez, Hendriks, Perez, Harden, Oliveros, Guerra, Blackburn). The upper minors might be 8-14 right now, but the lower minors are 18-3. Rochester ain't going nowhere.
  6. Yes,you're absolutely right (again). What a collossal mistake (again) by Twins management, and by Gardy to run such a fine pitcher and fine fellow out of town. God knows we need him to shore up he #6-7-8 spot in the rotation, which is his ceiling.
  7. From the past, Sandy Valdespino and George Mitterwald. From the present, Swarzak.
  8. Once again, untrue and unfair.
  9. Parker, I always look forward to your articles. Thanks for your great analysis. And jimbo, thanks for your terrific insight. Very interesting stuff.
  10. Molitor is certainly knowledgable, but he's not observing Sano every day. Perhaps there are coaches who see him every day that hold out more hope than Molitor. I don't recall anyone suggesting that people know nothing about baseball because they believe he "might" have to change positions. They would have to include Ryan, Molitor, and most of the field staff. We do have to concede that some pros who are closer to the situation may know somrething we don't. And how do people here know Sano's ready for the next level with the bat? And what about other factors, such as his maturity and professionalism? What can anyone her tell us about that? My guess is that Molitor's pessimism may have almost as much to do with these things than whether Sano can improve skills-wise.
  11. Clearly his glove's not ready for the next level, but let's wait awhile before declaring that his bat is. Early indications on that are great, but it's early.
  12. jimbo, thanks for your comments. Very interesting stuff. I've never heard the process described quite like this. Many years ago I suffered the indignity of being an early cut from the T-ball team. Finally, I know why. It was because of my exagerated lag-loop-lag, which caused me to knock the post out from underneath the ball every time.
  13. What a troll. Mr. Brooks and jorgenswest were engaged in an intelligent discussion. They both presented reasonable backup for their positions. You came along, eager to get your digs in and once again added nothing but a steaming pile of nothingness. jorgenswest and Mr. Brooks presented information and humbly drew reasonable conclusions. Riverbrian humbly offered his own observations. I complimented jorgenswest and challenged you about another of your snarky comments. What did you add to this thread, jokin, other arrogant incendiary comments?
  14. Again, I didn't express an opinion, jokin. I'll leave that to experts like you.
  15. Nice backup, jorgenswest. It supports what Riverbrian and others see. Well, except for the mythbuilders in the front office, who are just making stuff up all the time. According to jokin.
  16. Big jump for Montenez from GCL last year. He must be a real prospect.
  17. 1. Of course Perkins is more likely to record an out in that situation, just not a sure-fire thing, which you fully grasp to be my point. Nitpick away. 2. Don't know of any data, which is why I don't have an opinion. Try it some time, jokin. 3. That sounds like a reasonable idea to me. Again, I just wonder why so many managers stick with one guy to close out a ballgame and prefer to keep him in this role. Hell, jokin, they're probably all wrong, and geez, who am I to question YOUR contrary opinion? That would be rather arrogant.

    Opinion Versus Fact

Well said, badsmerf. Just two games ago, Mauer got a two-out hit and Willingham hit a homerun. I like our chances much better if we can have two guys with nice OBP's in front of the two sluggers.
  19. So easy to second-guess this situation. Robertson got Cabrera out nicely the day before, right? Davis, playing at an almost unprecedented level, hit a fairly good pitch. So easy to assume Perkins would have gotten him out. I get the whole high-leverage/best pitcher argument, but wonder if all these managers know something you critics don't know regarding the importance of keeping relief pitchers in familiar roles. So, if Perkins comes in and gives up the tying run, who pitches the 9th? Robertson? A manager has to trust his guys to succeed at their roles. If guys like Hendriks, Robertson, Roenicke, and Fien fail too often, then we'll begin to see guys like Swarzak, Deduno, Perez, and Harden when they're ready to go.
  20. Zero that I find. The highest I've seen him ranked was 46th, by Seth, last spring.
  21. No one will have a single thought about Burnett by April 1st. That's Monday.
  22. Because this time they have the Target Field revenues, and they'll have socked away some cash while being under budget for four years. I'll send Ryan the card then. Ryan thinks 78 wins. I think 70.
  23. That's certainly not the policy on THIS site, is it? I defend a lot of the decisions and actions of ownership and management, but I don't object to fair criticism and opposing views. I object to the often vicious personal attacks and unfair and distorted characterizations. I wish people wouldn't type what they wouldn't have the balls to say to their subject's face.
  24. I known I'm in an extreme minority, Mr. Brooks, but I really do believe that, sometime down the line, you'll see them go way over budget to retain star players and add a missing piece or two via the FA market. Unprecedented, I know, but I trust this organization at a time when distrust is understandably at a peak. And 2013? I'd define 75-78 wins as competitive, winning close to half the time and not being out of it by 7 runs in the top of the third every damn game.
  25. No. Why would it? Ryan said he had leeway to spend. He didn't spend. Was this planned, or did circumstances arise that influenced Ryan's judgment? Why would you assume this is because of some directive from Jim Pohlad? I'm assuming it wasn't because of a directive because both Jim Pohlad and Terry Ryan said so. Yeah, I know. They're a couple of thieving no-good lying scumbags, and I'm their PR guy.
