  1. This is where you lose me. If you think I said I want a law restricting the F word you're wrong, some things shouldn't require the threat of a fine or jail time, the problem comes when political cowards are afraid to care. You should be outraged anytime you here that word in a public place where kids are present, but I guess some people just want to be outraged that Republicans exist.
  2. Without saying what exactly you mean by the term social issues it's difficult for me to know if I agree with you. I want my kids to grow up in a world where they don't have to ever hear the F word because I brought them with to the store, I want them to grow up in a world where it is clear the government does not endorse the use of drugs. I want them to grow up in a world where they respect everyone else, and everyone else also respects them. In the end despite the fact I would imagine my "social issues" views are closer to yours then the average 60 year old elected Republican I think the Republicans should keep on doing what there doing, and in 25 years they will be where you want them to be. The democrats really only came around on these issues in any meaningful way 5 years ago, and it doesn't seem as if their current political view matches their personal view.
  3. I honestly think the Sano hype has been higher then Buxton's the fact Buxton passed him by sort of cools it down, but the average fan isn't impressed with beating out infield singles and scoring on shallow sac flys even if they love to watch it happen. By the way looking at Sano's #'s after hitting in the .100's most of April it appears he deserves to at least be called up to triple A pretty soon.
  4. I stopped voting for the All-star game when they started allowing 25 on line votes a day. My time isn't that valuable and I've done more pointless stuff on the internet, but the idea that to have my vote count equal to someone else not only do I have to spend 10 plus minutes voting I have to do it most every day makes the process stupid. Give the fans who attend games a vote, maybe have one day of free for all online voting with a limit of one, a lot of people will get around that but it won't be nearly as stupid.
  5. Derek Jeter as lacking as he might have been at the end played a defensive position that didn't produce a lot of 90+ RBI alternatives. We just need one extra hitter to produce and Joe is done as an everyday player unless of course he turns it around at least a little. I can't imagine Joe getting 50% of his healthy starts 2 years from now if the production doesn't change. I'm hopeful that would come sooner, but don't see Vargas proving himself to be the better option anytime soon. Joe Mauer as a 1st basemen has been Gene Larkin.
  6. Until Vargas starts hitting or they decide Joe mauer is a bench player they should keep all 3 with torii at dh most days. We haven't had outfield defense in so long that we forgot how important it is.
  7. I think plouffe could go in August but almost no chance we will be more then 5 games outside the wild card July 31. People are way too eager to write this season off after the losing streak. This is a good team in a 2 wild card league. You don't pass off opportunities to make the playoffs. With Santana's suspension and even hunters we have a lot of extra money to spend. I expect nothing less then the playoffs and I don't need mauer or even Buxton to do much to get there.
  8. If you exclude opening day debuts there's not much. I think we're really forgetting how high the expectations for mauer were though. He was supposed to hit close to .400
  9. No I like him saw a lot of positive today. Everyone goes 0-4 once in a while. I think he will finish the year batting around .240 but making a major impact on top of his defense.
  10. . What do I win?
  11. Question for Democrats does Clinton excite you at all. I know the bench is thin and its her turn but if even a few Obama voters stay home its a different race.
  12. 0-4 2 strikeouts top 10 play of the day in center
  13. The economy of Minnesota as compared to Wisconsin in say the year 1962 has a heck of a lot more to do with the current economy of the two states then the politics of the current governors. I like Scott Walker as a candidate for president you don't thats fine. I don't have to justify that by some criteria you make up. Wisconsin is locked in by lake Michigan, has no major rivers, and very few natural resources. It's an economy based on beer and dairy, and they do fine off that but never will be able to compete with Minnesota. When Wisconsin has had a Democrat Governor and Minnesota has had a Republican have the economies of the two states flipped? I'm sure there is some way to manipulate the statistics in your favor.
  14. Anyone take a look at the pitch tracking in the top of the first. It felt like Gibson might have been just missing a lot, but then that first pitch to Doizer gets called a strike. Didn't pay to close attention the rest of the night but no excuse for the strike 3 call on Hunter and the way he acted when Torii said something. Go ahead and eject him but an umpire should never be the guy getting into a players face. I would have had no problem had that ump ejected Doizer and Molitor on that first pitch by the way, but the ump most of known he doesn't belong behind the plate.
  15. Glad to see Polonco in the lineup, I know he can probably hit for the cycle and unless we see another injury he's going right back down but I'd love to see him make the decision difficult.
  16. I know statistics can be used a lot of different ways but Wisconsin does not rank last in job creation under Scott Walker. Beyond that historic data would have told us Barack Obama could not win a second term with the job #'s at the time of the 2012 election. The Democrats will beat up Walker on job #'s, but the fact of the matter is he's won 2 elections in the last 2 years in a swing state. Nobody needs to comprehend why people vote for him to understand he might be a decent candidate. If he's not ready for the national stage chances are he will fall apart long before the general election, but if he makes it through this field of Republicans I think even Democrats would have to admit he knows how to win elections. BTW Voter ID polls pretty well. It might be a solution to a problem you don't think exists, but I'm pretty sure the problem does exist, and I would imagine most in support of it support it for that reason. I'm gonna try not to get in to much back and forth but the Scott Walker bashing crowd is the worst of politics. So you disagree with someone politically, oh well.
  17. Unlike a lot of Republicans he has been able to do what he said he wanted to do. He's also proven you can win elections after acting as a true fiscal republican. I get why the other side hates him, I just don't get why the other side thinks I should care so much about that that I sacrifice my principal. The alternative for me is to figure out which candidate a few "independents" will vote for, and get all the flaws of the Republican party (George W Bush) and none of the benefits. And yes of course he's popular among us loud mouth Republicans, he's what we expect when we vote Republican, and he wins elections. I assume he wins elections thanks in large part to people who don't happen to be "loud mouth" Republicans. Seems the loudness of the anti Walker crowd doesn't match the political reality that people think he's a fine guy to lead Wisconsin. If that success can translate to Ohio Michigan Iowa Pennsylvania Colorado or Florida he would be the next president.
  18. My best guess of where the race is now. First of all I would say Republicans have somewhere around a 60% chance of winning significantly closer to 50% if Democrats go with someone other then Clinton. On the Democrat side among current candidates I'd say Hillary is around a 98%, but I also think there is a 50% or better chance a more credible challenger jumps in at some point. With all that said I would put her at around a 65% favorite With Biden and Warren at 10% each and everyone else taking up the remaining 15%. I love Amy Klobuchar as a long shot bet. On the Republican side the 4 clear favorites at this point are Scott Walker Marco Rubio Rand Paul and Jeb Bush. I have Bush 4th but he could be #1 if the others run into more trouble then he has to this point, still he will never approach 50% at least until the majority of candidates drop out. A case can be made for any of the 4 having the best shot. Among the rest the only candidates who wouldn't shock me if they won are Cruz and Christie. I'm sure in the next few months one or two candidates will make the wouldn't shock me list and one or two of the top 4 could fall apart and allow more opportunity for everyone else but I would put that group of 4 at 90% fairly equally split. All kinds of people are saying a third party could emerge if it's Hillary versus Bush and I wouldn't be shocked if someone jumped in and got 8 or 10% but there is no path to victory, and a lot of alternative options available. Participate in the process it's wide open if outsiders jump in and influence the results. It might be tough to defeat Hillary by turning out a different crowd but defeating Bush should be easy if people turnout. Full disclosure I would consider myself Tea Party and a supporter of Rand Paul first and Scott Walker 2nd. I love Ted Cruz as a Senator but don't see him as my president.
  19. I'm confused why would we need a minor league starter? Do we need a minor league starter every time we have an off day? I understand the next time through the rotation you would either have to pitch someone on 4 days rest or call someone up, but then it can be Tommy Milone.
  20. I really like Mauer this year, if you can't think of him as an under $12 million player you'll never be capable of evaluating him from this point forward. When he needs to get you an RBI he's been getting you it. He's also seems to be hitting more long fly balls. He's settled in to being basically Gene Larkin with a lot more double power, I wanted him to still be willing to be the emergency catcher and move around in the field a little that would be huge for his value, but he's settled into being an above average defensive first basemen with room for improvement I expect to see, with a very competent bat and no matter how bad it gets nobody will be shocked if he hit's .430 for a month. He's helping us win games, I wanted to Vargas or Sano get all his at bats after the 1-6 start when it looked like this would be nothing more then a development year but he belongs in the everyday lineup.
  21. 3 options why waste a flight to Minnesota for one game when the Twins will be in Boston Monday, 2 I'm back means something else, 3 a borderline call up tweeting about a call up before whoever was about to be sent down is easily reversed. Bottom line no move was made last night. I suppose 4. Hermann hit a HR if we want a below average hitter with some power we've got it already.
  22. We've probably got more then our share of one run wins but then again despite the final score last night was pretty much a one run loss. Good teams find ways to win.
  23. Sounds like pinto got the call tweeting I'm back.
