  1. Don't mind it. Might as well try catch lightning in a bottle.
  2. MAIL CALL! I did a mail bag article: http://zonecoverage.com/2017/twins/warne-minnesota-twins-mailbag/
  3. Quick hit from me on Nik Turley: http://zonecoverage.com/2017/twins/reports-twins-to-purchase-contract-of-lhp-nik-turley-for-sunday-start/
  4. They don't play very many innings.
  5. ....not 1/3 of the way into the season it isn't.
  6. Max Kepler hits the ball in the air. Christian Yelich does not.
  7. That bullpen wasn't very good, either. Pitching staff had -- OTOH -- a 4.63 ERA, and the bullpen's was 5.11. Only one team was worse!
  8. I'm sure people are upset about this, but meh. It's a dart throw on a guy who doesn't throw hard, but has pretty good offspeed stuff. Was really good as recently as two years ago. Whatever. I don't hate it.
  9. That team had two Ervin Santanas and at least one less "round" to contend with.
  10. He's not far from 35, has thrown a ton of sliders, is on a reasonable deal and is on an overachieving team. Set your price. If it is met, move him. If it isn't, ride the deal out. It's that simple. The only real qualifier is if the Twins are 5-10 games up in July. In other words, this will not happen.
  11. He made a business decision. He's going in the top three picks -- most likely -- and that's $7 million he could lose (or rather, have on the table and never see). I don't blame him. It's very rare that anyone could make this decision with the margin for error only being about a million bucks (slots 1-3 difference in value).
  12. He threw innings this year, and was never the consensus No. 1.
  13. Two starts ago, I believe. One good, one bad?
  14. Gimenez said he suspected he was 84-86 that day.
  15. He did, but it was a live BP session and he was only throwing fastballs. I.e. Gimenez knew what was coming. So giving up home runs is not that surprising.
  16. This is the kind of arm you take a chance on in August if he's still dealing. Those don't cost much. He's basically the Phillies' version of Fernando Abad, but a bit souped up.
  17. Fair point. I still am not certain what he's going to be medium-term, but he's been OK.
  18. Having Berrios is better than not. That's why I think they're trending up.
  19. I wrote a State of the Twins address for the 1/3 mark of the season: http://zonecoverage.com/2017/twins/warne-state-of-the-twins-off-day-dump/ As always, thoughtful discussion is appreciated!
  20. The reports I got said not good out there. We'll see.
  21. Stew -- has there ever been a play that has gone from a shortstop to a right fielder, to be scored "6-9"?
  22. I think he'll probably be a .275/.335/.350 kind of guy. Could cut it as a fourth outfielder and occasional starter, but maybe not much more than a Jason Tyner type.
  23. Palka wasn't worth a call up when he was healthy. He has not been good this year, and I've gotten pretty negative reports about his defense.
  24. Because he did pitch that day -- and got crushed? As I noted in my original piece, I don't see why he was called up instead of Boshers anyway.
  25. Jason Wheeler reportedly traded to the Dodgers: https://t.co/KUzhdxAbkX
