  1. Well why else would they call up a starter if he's not going to be used in the rotation? I don't think I'm exactly going out on a limb here as far as Wheeler is concerned.
  2. I don't agree that you have to go to one of the call ups. They were there to give length. It was odd that Wheeler ended up working shorter stints later on, but when you have six outs to get, I don't have a problem with using "your guys."
  3. I'm talking about when looking at the series on the whole beforehand. You understand why that logic doesn't work, right? Chris Gimenez got three outs and allowed just two runs. Should have used him, then? You can't look back at how a game played out and make decisions after the fact. Decision makers don't have that luxury when making those decisions.
  4. Wrote about the smoldering mess Houston left behind this week. As always, thoughtful discussion appreciated: http://zonecoverage.com/2017/twins/warne-after-the-astros-series-message-received/
  5. Quick hit on Wimmers-Rosario moves: http://zonecoverage.com/2017/twins/reports-twins-recall-randy-rosario-purchase-contract-of-alex-wimmers/
  6. Ripping Molitor doesn't get anyone "shunned." He answers the questions from anyone who asks. The fact of the matter is that in this business, if you rip someone, you'd damn well better be right. You can't just spout off like with no accountability.
  7. Both were red for Molitor. I.E., told him they couldn't go.
  8. Dull, listless Twins offense falls 7-2 to Mike Fiers, Astros: http://zonecoverage.com/2017/twins/530-game-notes-fiers-shuts-down-listless-twins-offense-for-fourth-straight-loss/
  9. The old thread had gotten stale. Here are tonight's pregame notes for Fiers/Berrios. Always looking for comments! http://zonecoverage.com/2017/twins/530-pregame-notes-twins-seek-tears-for-fiers-berrios-gets-the-ball-and-perkins-throws-live-bp/
  10. Because they want him to be available in the event of a short start in the days to come to give them length. That's why he's up here.
  11. Penned a column for Zone Coverage suggesting I think I actually see what Molitor was going for on Monday: https://t.co/9eTCdjXGvi Let me know what you think
  12. I'm debuting a new feature called "Catching Up with the Catcher" where I'm joined by Chris Gimenez every homestand. They'll typically run about 10 minutes, and he's great for insight and just to chat with. Here's the first one, let me know what you think! http://zonecoverage.com/2017/twins/mws-almost-daily-5-29-17-catching-up-with-the-catcher/
  13. Gimenez is a career 259/356/392 hitter v. LHP. More than capable of mixing and matching with Castro back there. Why would you compare AAA to MLB numbers, anyway?
  14. 27 plate appearances. OK.
  15. Until someone gets hurt or the end of the year, I would guess. Or if they decide to move some pieces around on the bench to where Gimenez plays more in the field.
  16. Lots of postgame stuff to get into. Give it a shot, please! http://zonecoverage.com/2017/twins/527-game-notes-twins-top-rays-on-late-dozier-homer/
  17. I get the idea, but Gimenez isn't going anywhere. They love him.
  18. pregame notes are up! https://t.co/1QrXxtvl6X
  19. postgame story in 5-2 loss: https://t.co/aIb2QM7hek
  20. Totally agree. He should be losing playing time to Grossman in LF, thus opening time for Vargas at DH. No gripes there.
  21. You said "why isn't Vargas getting the same chance to bounce back from a sophomore slump?" The obvious reason is because he doesn't have the ceiling Sano does. He also happens to be much older than Sano, plays a far less important defensive position and didn't have the same rookie track record.
  22. That catcher is a huge reason why the pitching staff has taken a giant step forward with essentially the same cast of characters -- as noted in the article -- and a reliever who is throwing 98 with a nasty curve and slider who is starting to turn things around. Vargas has no OBP and isn't playing very much.
  23. Because they're drastically different players? Sano hit .236/.319/.462 in his tough season, which is basically what Vargas is capable of. He doesn't have any sort of season close to Sano's rookie season. Why are you comparing the two at all?
