  1. What is there to rebuild? All the useful players outside of Ervin Santana are young.
  2. They are not rebuilding. The rebuild is basically over. You can't rebuild what isn't built. They are on the upswing, which unfortunately is starting very low.
  3. Berardino said he heard fairly good reports on him back there.
  4. If anyone cares -- and it's OK that you probably don't -- I wrote my view up here: https://t.co/VFntSR6DRc
  5. Nick Hundley is more interesting than any of those guys, I think.
  6. Dean and Albers will make starts until Santiago is ready.
  7. Mike Berardino (Pioneer Press) joins Brandon Warne and Tom Schreier to discuss the Minnesota Twins decision to relieve Terry Ryan of his duties and who should replace him. http://coldomaha.com/2016/twins/midwest-swing-mike-berardino-joins-to-discuss-terry-ryans-firing/
  8. Latest episode with Mike Berardino of the PPress: Brandon is joined by ColdOmaha.com’s Zach Wright and Tom Schreier in the studio, and Mike Berardino calls in from the Pioneer Press to chat about the flurry of moves made by the Twins over the last 48 hours or so. The guys also get into some T-Wolves and Wild offseason talk at the end. All that and more on this edition of Midwest Swing! http://coldomaha.com/2016/podcasts/midwest-swing-mike-berardino-joins-to-disscet-the-twins-latest-moves/

  10. Got away from posting these lately, but here we go again with Ep. 24. Brandon and Tom are joined by Dan Hayes (@CSNHayes) of CSN Chicago for the first half of the program to talk about the upcoming series between the Twins and the White Sox, and in the second half #oldfriend Matt Trueblood (@MATrueblood) of Baseball Prospectus and BP Wrigleyville joined the program to talk about the world-beating Cubs team. 11. Literally no one had Wacha at No. 2 overall. That would have been a reach. And beyond that, I'll still take Buxton's potential over Wacha's. Since his magical rookie season: 3.63 ERA, 7.7 K/9, 3.0 BB/9. Those guys aren't (SHOULDN'T BE) hard to find.
  12. Appel didn't go No. 1 the year Buxton went, either. I'm saying the Twins could have drafted for need (Appel, who went 8th) or went best available, which worked out better for them.
  13. You can draft for need and end up with Mark Appel. You can draft best available, and get Byron Buxton, who made the big leagues as a high school pick when Appel was still at DOUBLE-A.
  14. Hey kid I know we drafted you yesterday and you still have two high school games left, but if you can be a future Hall of Famer we'll throw you in there right away.
  15. Yeah but it's A. not a .400+ BABIP and B. a player with a previous track record. I'm cool with disagreement. No worries.
  16. He was a minus-2 win player with the Yankees and has been a plus-2 win player for the Twins. There's a 14-point gap in OPS+. Those are both pretty significant.
  17. As I wrote today -- and I'm not saying you have to have read it, just making conversation -- there's a big divide between what Nunez did with the Yankees and the Twins. He's been better than that as a Twin by a fair margin.
  18. There's a reason the team doesn't think he can stick at short. Tonight is the first time he started there, and they've had ample opportunity to play him there and just haven't. All I'm saying is the same arguments made for Polanco -- he can hit! he's not great defensively! -- apply for Nunez with less question marks for now.
  19. Doesn't have to. His norms are a .270 batting average and a .310 BABIP over 1300+ big league PAs. He doesn't have to keep hitting .330 to have value. I think that's where the craziness about him goes south for me.
  20. It's .365 right now and it's .340 over this year and last. He's proven to be about 40 points away from that mark over his time with the Twins. He's hit .279 with the Twins overall, with a .320 BABIP in about a full season worth of PA.
  21. .300/.344/.445 over his last 316 PA (this year and last). Don't know about you, but I'd give that a longer look.
