  1. When Hughes signed there was all this talk about getting him in his prime years and the potential for him to out perform his contract because of that, he'll turn 28 next year. Pelfrey signed a lesser contract and will be 29 next season. He's in his prime years also. That's why I like his signing over Arroyo.
  2. He traded Ben Revere after a 3.0 WAR season with us, the jury is still out on whether or not that was at "peak" value but the Phillies got 0.9 WAR from him last year. He traded Dernard Span after 3.6 WAR season, the second highest in his career. In both those cases he got the other team's top pitching prospect in return. Before that he traded Scott Tyler and Travis Bowyer at their "peak" time. Maybe you don't remember them because they never made the big leagues but TR traded them for 2.1 WAR of Luis Castillo in 2006 and whatever they got of his 2.7 WAR in 4 months with the Twins in 2007. Before that he traded AJ Pierzynski to the Giants while he was still under team control and after consecutive years of batting above .300. San Francisco got 1.1 WAR total from AJ. TR would get more than that in the 4.0 WAR he got from Boof Bonser. But he also got 15.2 WAR from Nathan, and 14.9 from Liriano. Effectively out WARing Brian Sabean by 33.3 WAR.
  3. Is not obvious at this point that the Twins need offensive improvement to come from within? That is the strength of their farm system. They need Arcia to take a step forward and full healthy seasons from Willingham and Mauer with less demanding defensive positions (1b and DH). It's not realistic to expect them to add high-end talent to the MLB roster from the market. It needs to come in the names of Sano, Buxton, Sanatana, Rosario, and Hicks.
  4. The Twins have always looked at WHIP.
  5. Don't be surprised when my boy Kris Johson surprises the lot of ya in ST and locks down that 5th starter spot.
  6. Boo-yah! Boo-yah! BOO-YAH! Here we come baby. Here we come!
  7. Well I'd be fine with it if they give Garza 5 years. But I understand it if they don't. I think he'll 4/$60+ with a buyout anyhow. I've got a special place in my heart for d-only shortstops so I want em to stick with Florimon. I'll even predict he improves in his 1.0 WAR from this past year.
  8. Latest word is Diamondbacks will not go past 3 years and is set on Tanaka who they think will be posted. Garza is a So Cal guy yes? Probably gives Angels a little edge. It will probably be Pelfrey coming back, which I'm okay with. Garza would be really cool, but he's risky on a long term deal IMO
  9. My Dad and I talked with Bill Smith for a long time at Twinsfest before the 2005 season on the dome floor. We asked about 2nd and 3rd base going into that season. He told is that he thought Luis Rivas was about to emerge as an All-Star second baseman and Michael Cuddyer was not going to have any issue holding down 3B on a daily basis.
  10. I was at that Garcia game. It was beauty amidst a lost season (2005). On an 0-2 count also. He had that two homer game off Bartolo Colon to cap a sweep of the White Sox in Sept. 2003 Jacque is my favorite Twin ever. He was clutch and he proved doubters wrong.
  11. TR driving the price up on the Big Cats. I like it.

  13. It makes the most sense that they are looking for that. They might go for a big right handed bat that can play outfield. I know they've been linked to Nelson Cruz.
  14. Duensing was awful last year and I don't think he threw as hard as a starter, neither did Perkins. It might be the case that Diamond would throw harder as a reliever too (might). Most pitchers' game is a little different out of the pen than it is as a starter. That Diamond is taller than Duensing might be an advantage because he can better angle his pitches on a downward plane. My only point being you won't really be able to asses Diamond as a bullpen pitcher until he's done it. Johnson could be a bullpen lefty also. I know TR said he got him to add starting depth, but he did pitch out of the bullpen some last year.
  15. This is what I expect also except that Worley will be in the pen instead of Duensing. To me Worley has bullpen written all over him as a pitcher. It could be Johnson instead of Gibson in the rotation if he has a better showing in Spring Training, which could happen. Johnson pitched out of the bullpen some in AAA last year, I think he even recorded a save, so he could end up there if Diamond were to be the one to earn a spot in ST (I don't expect that to happen). Duensing must go.
  16. Thanks. This was the article I needed right now.
  17. I only skimmed your initial post but I'm pretty sure you look like a genius today.
  18. Am I the only jerk on here who feels that this move has made us World Series contenders? Am I wrong for feeling that way? Should I feel guilty and ashamed?
  19. I've not read anything on this thread by the initial post and seen the title. But this thread has to be dead now right?
  20. Heck, I wonder if they would be foolish enough to take Dozier, Gibson, and Plouffe. That would be a steal with a contract extension. Surely Dozier is at his peak value.
  21. If it's a second baseman Cincy wants give them Dozier, not Rosario.
  22. Oh Rickey, what a pity You don't understand You take me by the heart When you take me by the hand Oh Rickey, you're so pretty Can't you understand It's guys like you Rickey Oh what you do Rickey, do Rickey Don't break my heart Rickey!
