  1. It wasn't going into the season but u remember a game in 2003, I believe, where Michael Ryan, Michael Restovich, and Michael Cuddyer all started in the OF. I believe there were days also in 1996 when Lawton would sit and the OF would be Cordova, Becker, and Coomer. How we forget that Coomer played some rf back in the day. Should Carrol and Dozier become the starting middle infielders we could have a whole white lineup. Heck, it could end up being a whole white team save for Worley's half asianess. BTW- I don't see race.
  2. I understand everyone thinks Correia is overpaid and are more than willing to share his k/9 rate in order to prove it. However, it's not like this deal is breaking the bank for the Twins. In other threads folks who are much better at math than me did some thorough analysis with information from Fansgraph which suggested that the Twins are underpaying for the improvement he will give them. His previous deal was 2 years $8 million. He didn't pitch poor enough to warrant a pay cut and plenty if teams were going to see it that way.
  3. Well, they better get him for less than the cubs paid Baker. Otherwise he may have been the better Tommy John Risk. A deal like Lannan's would be fine. If healthy Peltrey's better than what they had last year. Heck, Bill Smith couldn't get the Mets to include him in the Johan trade; settled on Kevin Mulvey. I think TR is definitely going around shopping a one year deal and looking to see whose buying. I think they want the final two (or 3) spots in the rotation to be relatively open because ultimatley they want them to be filled up by the likes of Gibson, Hendricks, Meyer, and May. So they are looking for stopgaps and to keep the payroll low. Lannan probably wanted to stay on the east coast.
  4. Brian Harper. What a ball player!
  5. How is it that they didn't sign Paul Maholm last year?
  6. Can someone explain to me why I have not heard his name brought up at all this offseason?
  7. Aren't you the same guy who thought the Twins could get James Shields for Dernard Span and BJ Hermsen?
  8. I'm the kind of jerk who likes this signing.
  9. I called it!! Even predicted the two year deal. I need to find the forum thread.
  10. I would count this report from LEN3rd as an indication that the Twins think he is close to ready: "Twins General Manager Terry Ryan didn't sound interested in bringing Meyer along slowly. "We'll let the pitcher dictate his ability to go through a system," Ryan said. "This guy is a power-type pitcher who throws it over. That equates to someone who should be able to do some things in the minor leagues and get up here."" http://m.startribune.com/?id=181628701 That quote means next to nothing with regards to MLB ETA. He is simply saying that the Twins will let Meyer's pitching in the minors determine how quickly Meyer moves up. Which just leads back to your (the general you, not twinsfaninsaudi you) personal assumption about how quickly Meyer will show he is ready to move. Twinsfaninsaudi seems to think Meyer is going to dominate at each stop and so will progress quickly. Others think he will struggle enough with his mechanics, whether that is because the Twins want to tweak them or just because he is 6'9" tall, and therefore won't rise rapidly. Yes, you are correct. At the end of the day, I am going on a hunch that he will dominate.

  12. Another point I will make here is that I think saying he is "struggling" with his mechanics is not an accurate characterization. I think saying that being consistent with his mechanics is not one of his strengths would be a more accurate description, from what I have read. One thing, he certainly did not "struggle" with his control last year, so his mechanics did not effect that.
  13. I would count this report from LEN3rd as an indication that the Twins think he is close to ready: "Twins General Manager Terry Ryan didn't sound interested in bringing Meyer along slowly. 14. Point taken on Boras.
  15. I think it's also been said he lacks a reliable third pitch that you want a front-line starter to have, which additional time may allow to develop. From Keith Law: "his changeup has improved to the point where it's probably a future-average pitch" Again, it's something he has improved on steadily. But me, I think because he mostly throws a hard fastball that sinks and tails to the glove side, he can get by as primarily a two pitch starter with a hard slider that breaks the opposite way and gets rave reviews.
  16. There's no guarantees he even starts this season in AA. Ryan hasn't committed to where he'll be placed yet. We won't see him with the Twins this regular season There is no guarantees. But he will probably start at Double A. Is there a lot pitching blocking him in this organization?
  17. I don't agree with that. I don't think they see Meyer as a guy that will roll through all his options. They see him as a guy who will stick once he arrives, so the options are a moot point.
  18. Going into this year Meyer will be older and have more professional innings logged than Matt Garzas had/was in 2006, the year he was called up. He will be a month older going into this season than Liam Hendricks was going into last season. Every area of concern that you cited are things he has improved on steadily every year since he was a sophomore in college. If he dominates AA through May and AAA through June he will get called up in July. Terry Ryan actually said as much on the day they made the trade.
  19. There is a point after June in which call-ups would not be counted as having a year if service time. There is super 2s, but still, a guy can get called up and pitch in the majors without it moving his Arbitration eligibility any closer than if he had spent the whole year in the minors.
  20. I'm curious. Who thinks Meyer will be a member of Twins rotation during the 2013 season? And I mean before September. Also, who thinks the FO actually expects that he will make it to the rotation during 2013? I'm talking about a July or August call-up here. I personally think yes on both accounts.
  21. I'm going to bring this to its own thread cause I am curious about what others have to say about it.
  22. My guess is because he's not very good and he's over 30. But I've come to the point where I'll take damned near anybody that isn't some reclamation project off the scrapheap. My guess is because even Joe Saunders is going to demand $8-12 million which means he'll be the Twins big free agent spend even though he should be considered a #4 starter and a Joe Saunders anchored rotation is going to continue the Target Field attendance drain. It's just really doubtful That the twins are going to give out a Gil Meche like contract in order to attract one of the in-demand pitchers on the market. Therefore those pitchers will go to other teams that will easily match the twins offer and won't be as glaringly lined up for a losing season. It means the pitchers that will have an incentive to sign with the twins are the ones who were kicked out of a rotation at some point within the last year because they have the incentive to sign somewhere without stiff competition for a rotation spot so they will be assured of being starters. So that means you're looking at Correia, Liriano, Jurrgens, and Lannan.* If the get Saunders, I'd call it an unexpected accomplishment.
  23. Gibson, yes. Meyer, almost a zero chance of being in the rotation this July. I think you're wrong. I understand your thinking, and mostly I'm going on a hunch, but I think he will arrive similar to Matt Garza in 2006. Meyer will be 23 in January. Liam Hendricks was 23 last year. This team does not have a lot of pitching. Zero chance? No. Meyer has mechanical problems and an inconsistent delivery. The Twins won't rush him to the bigs until that is sorted out. I'd say 2014 at the earliest, given that he hasn't pitched above A ball. In every area that there is a concern about him he has improved steadily since being a sophomore in college, and he is not struggling with his control. Garza had not pitched above A ball going into 2006 either, he actually had less pro innings logged than going into that year than Meyer does now. If he dominates AA through May he will move to AAA by June and be in the bigs during the summer is he dominates there, maybe even if he is just solid.
