  1. With the health issues Span had this year, maybe he is willing to take a one year deal to rebuild his value. Could be a win-win scenario for both Span and the Twins.
  2. I think what you are trying to say is that Miller isn't much better than Gibson. If I'm wrong, please correct me. Miller has three full seasons under has belt by the age of 25, whereas Gibson has two at 28. I have a feeling you may be underselling Miller a bit. Miller was already pitching in the majors (in the bullpen) at the age that Gibson was pitching for the Missouri Tigers. That being said, I agree that they would need to move at least on pitcher from their current rotation to do this.
  3. Where is our resident Braves expert? Biggentleben, what say you?
  4. Pretty darned well I'd say. I was shocked when I saw his stats a couple of months ago. He was only 26 this year.
  5. Nope, it was one of the few I missed on this thread. I'm amazed I've read as many as I have. You don't think Antony may have been saying that for Suzuki's benefit being he is the incumbent? You don't think the FO ever says something they don't 100% mean? My take on it is that they want Murphy to play as much as he earns which should be more than Suzuki if 2015 is representative of their abilities.
  6. While I agree with most of what you've said, I'll have to chose to disagree with this. I tend to think just the opposite. I think the Murphy/Suzuki split will be 90/70 games or even 100/60. I will be extremely disappointed if you are right.
  7. Now who is over-exaggerating?
  8. I can't believe how long it took me to read through 15+ pages of posts. My head is spinning. I will go on record as being a guy who liked the idea of Hicks starting the season in CF and giving Buxton some seasoning in AAA. That is the main reason I don't like the trade. I've been holding out hope that Hicks would eventually become the player everyone hoped for. I saw some glimmers of that this year, but it is still too early to say if he has turned the corner. If Hicks is indeed destined to be a 4th outfielder, or the RH component of a RF platoon, I think this trade will be fine. I am with Chief (I think he originally stated it) that it scares the hell out of me that he figures it out in New York. To me, Hicks has much higher upside than Murphy. People have suggested for the past couple of years that Hicks is a head case. If that turns out to be true, I doubt he figures it out in the media circus that is NY. My guess is that in the end, the Twins didn't have faith that Hicks was going to figure things out. In the end, my gut tells me that both players end up being part-time/role players. I would have rather rolled the dice keeping Hicks, especially if it allows Buxton to come up when he is deemed ready. On a tangent, what about signing Span to a one-year make-good and incentive-laden deal? There was a suggestion in the offseason handbook that he might be interested in that since he is coming off an injury marred season.
  9. Trading Russell wasn't the smartest move either.
  10. Both debuted at 23 and Rosario clearly had the better rookie season. Hicks has been the more highly regarded of the two coming up through the minors. http://www.baseball-reference.com/register/player.cgi?id=hicks-001aar http://www.baseball-reference.com/register/player.cgi?id=rosari001edd Rosario Age 20: .835 OPS in A Age 21: .903 in A+, .742 in AA Age 22: .672 in AA (although he had a late start due to suspension) Hicks Age 20: .829 in A Age 21: .722 in A+ Age 22: .844 in AA Hicks has been slow to adjust to the majors, but he showed some signs of coming around last year. Hicks has the better defensive value between the two. Rosario is a free swinger, Hicks is patient (sometimes maddeningly). Until Rosario shows he can produce again next year (and not be a repeat of Santana from this year), I am unconvinced that he is the better prospect. His K/BB rate concerns me. I hope he proves me wrong. Either way, I hope they both become fixtures in our outfield because they have earned it by their performance.
  11. League Average SLG for RF is .438 and for LF is .416. Rosario .459
  12. Why? Hicks 390 PA, .721 OPS, 34 BB, 66 K Rosario 474 PA, .748 OPS, 15 BB, 118 K Rosario has more pop, but his K/BB ratio stinks. Hicks is a true CF, Rosario could play CF if needed. There is a striking similarity between Rosario 2015 and Santana 2014. Rosario is the better prospect, but he may be due for some regression this year if he doesn't improve his plate discipline.
  13. Welcome to the board! Check this out: http://twinsdaily.com/topic/20533-article-chasing-an-ace/
  14. I actually think Meyer has the potential to still pan out, albeit as a shutdown reliever. He has exactly what everybody has been clamoring for, velocity and an out pitch in his slider.
  15. Wouldn't it make more sense to keep the good 3B at 3B and move the guy who probably ends up at 1B anyways?
  16. Nothing wrong with this kind of signing, but most likely will just be minor league filler.
  17. That's one way to put it.
  18. Agreed, keep up the great work guys!
  19. Not trying to be argumentative, just trying to understand how you evaluate. Gibson took a step forward this year in his second full season in the majors. Yes, he is 28 so he may be close to his ceiling. I think his stats this year indicate he is more likely a 3. League Average Starter 2015: .258 BAA, .731 OPS, 1.292 WHIP, 7.3 K/9, 2.69 SO/W, 4.14 ERA Gibson 2015: .252, .698, 1.289, 6.7, 2.23, 3.84 I would consider the average #3 starter on a team to be league average. It looks to me like he is slightly better that the average #3 now that he's brought his K numbers up this year (although they still aren't great).
  20. You are forgetting about the even-year Phil Hughes. He should be back to #1 on the staff next year. Age 24 - 2010: 18W-8L, 4.19 ERA Age 25 - 2011: 5-5, 5.79 ERA Age 26 - 2012: 16-13, 4.19 ERA Age 27 - 2013: 4-14, 5.19 ERA Age 28 - 2014: 16-10, 3.52 ERA Age 29 - 2015: 11-9, 4.40 ERA He's trending in the right direction, even on the odd years. 18-10 with a 3.20 ERA next year? I can dream, can't I?
  21. The team hit 191 that year.
  22. 2004 Koskie, Jones and Hunter had 20+ Morneau, Ford, Cuddyer, Stewart, Rivas and Blanco 10+
  23. 11 for 11 throwing strikes last night. A considerable improvement. My guess is you are being facetious, HH, but here's my take. The first out was a called third strike and on the outside edge (marginal by Fox Track) and the swinging third strike was a slider down or out of the zone. He looked much more like he did in the first half. Let's hope he can continue.
  24. I assume you are referring to Newton's 3 Laws of Motion. 1st Law - Law of Inertia - Once you get Sano (or Vargas) moving, you aren't stopping him. 2nd Law - F = ma - The acceleration of an object is directly proportional to the force applied and inversely proportional to the mass of the object. Once again, I'll apply Miguel. He is clearly applying more force to the baseball than we've seen in the Twins dugout since Morneau was healthy. Twins already have 152 HR compared to 128 last year. 3rd Law - For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. Twins record has gone up as the Tigers have tanked this year. Most media types didn't see that coming. Good enough???
  25. $10 to me on the bet I made with a buddy that the Twins would be .500 or better. I hope he gives me cash, which is as good as money. Thanks for justifying my optimism, Twins!
