  1. The Twins aren't trading for some "prospect"--this is a salary dump! Ryan doesn't want to pay another team for Morneau to play for them--that sets a precedent for other GMs to take a hard line because Ryan will cave-in to save a little money.
  2. Absolutely! If Morneau is claimed the Twins have the option of just accepting the claim (I think this happened with Alex Rios) and say "he's your's, salary and all"--for nothing!
  3. He's not worth keeping. These guys aren't that rare, if they're aren't productive replace them.
  4. After last night's disaster, who would want Morneau--even for nothing? Sorry folks, Morneau's is spiraling in the vortex.
  5. Probability of trading Pelfrey revised to 0.1%
  6. I think the "Morneau as fan favorite" negative response is way overblown. The games I have attended or those watched at a bar, no one even mentions Morneau. Those at the game are soaking-up the atmosphere, the actual game, the food/beverages, and those in their party. Mauer--is an entirely different story--but Morneau, just not seeing the "fan love".
  7. There is value in keeping a good player! Perkins can be traded next year too--and for the same return as now--and also in 2015! There is no rush to make a deal. As I stated before, trading Perkins now flushes the PR for winning soon, they can wait until 2015 to trade Perkins.
  8. I suspect that the Twins think that 99.99% of the value of a Morneau trade is in the cost savings.
  9. I disagree. A 1-game suspension for showboating on a HR, another game for pissing-off the manager, and an indeterminate number of games for pissing-off Ryan.
  10. This has been addressed by others.
  11. This might be the year to "draft down" and pay underslot and pounce on a HS kid who didn't go 1st round, and "overpay" to get him to sign.
  12. What compensation round pick?--there won't be one!
  13. My guess is that he is an August waiver. The Twins appear to me to be "in a cost-cutting mode" and will likely have a rotation of: Corriera, Deduno, Diamond, Gibson plus one from the minor leagues. I really don't think they will spend in free agency this off season--and definately not for one of the "best available pitchers".
  14. Maybe Ryan considers this his best trade because Pohlad praised and rewarded him? Words like: "Ryan 'knows' how to be a GM", or "Ryan's the guy". Ryan dumped salary and likely didn't complain a bit--just kept his mouth shut and did his assignments. Perhaps that's why he was brought back too? It appears to me that slashing payroll was his #1 job from when he came back. Winning? Since there is no schedule, any claim is spurious--just say "we do things 'the right way' here".
  15. He's a free agent--trade him--and if you like what he's done in 2013, make a solid contract offer in the off-season.
  16. $13MM for Pelfrey? Ridiculous!
  17. I am a bit more tolerant than many when it comes to "showboating"--but let's be blunt he isn't Miguel Cabrera, yet! Being a stud in minor leagues isn't nearly the accomplishment as in the majors. Considering his "failure rate" a subdued celebration is more appropriate. Besides is hitting a HR of that specific pitcher all that noteworthy anyway?
  18. Twins needs: ...and anybody who can hit!
  19. Unsaid is "why are there still 13 pitchers on the AR"? Twelve pitchers is excessive, thirteen would only be used if there were some "walking wounded", or the rotation is consistently being pulled before the the fifth inning. The rotation has been at least reasonable (Diamond is the problem) and clearly at least one pitcher can be sent to Rochester and exchanged for an OF.
  20. Which suggests to me that Diamond won't be optioned--he will become a long relief guy for the rest of this season.
  21. The Twins have a history of valuing a closer very highly. If the Twins were to trade Perkins they would have forgo the pretense of winning/contending until they actually have the record of a winner. Most likely, they would have to make a significant move in the off-season (especially if Gardenhire is extended) to replace Perkins with a "real closer". That pitcher is likely to cost more than Perkins, likely not as good as Perkins, and forget about a MN connection. Given all of the hoops that would have to be jumped, the return on the trade must be impeccable and have someone who will be on the 2014 active roster. I don't think Ryan has the pixie dust to pull that trade off.
  22. Hermann's GS means: Leave Butera in Rochester!
  23. This trade warms the cockels of my heart. I got flamed for using K-ROD as an example of a playoff-veteran closer who would be in demand ("He's horrible!").
  24. It boils down to the start and the finish--not just the middle. Early and fast start, and the best "curve" around 3B (not slowing down but running the curve like the 200M sprinters). It's more than just effort.
