  1. According to Halsey they did. Aren't you glad Puckett listened? Each hitter is different and needs his personal approach. What was good for Puckett probably wouldn't have made Mauer - Mauer.
  2. Neither. Just the percentage of "type of strikeouts" . Striking out proves that you obviously had 3 strikes on you, but doesn't establish how you came to those 3 strikes.................... *3 crazy swings? *1 crazy swing ala Puckett / Carlos Gomez (going for yours) and then settling in? *several called strikes early in count and 1 limited bad swing? *mixture of all the above on any given night (no approach)? *several near misses on swings with good swings? All these are important factors for me and should be something a good hitting coach will figure out moving forward. What is the approach you want for him and is he adhering to it throughout the season? We will see? Would be a good question to ask a Chad Allen during the season?
  3. The question you should ask is how many strike 1's and strike 2's were looking. There's your support. Some one posted that Walker probably had more full counts than anyone on Miracle team last year. Didn't mean he was swinging away, just meant he had a lot of 2 strike counts. That maybe dumb on his part, but doesn't necessarily mean he was swinging away. Like the poster I'm referring to said - Very rarely did I hear (radio) him go down on 3 swings or 3 straight strikes for that matter. For all his strikeouts - I would bet as well, that most of his hits came with 2 strikes as well.
  4. Oliva had similar thoughts on Walker This is from an article by Jim Crikket while sitting with Oliva at a game discussing. "I saw the way Tony Oliva’s eyes lit up watching him play. When Oliva made an appearance in Cedar Rapids this summer, I found myself in the pressbox alone with him for an inning or so. He wanted to talk about Walker. I told him I thought Walker needed to learn to take that outside pitch to the opposite field and Oliva’s response was something along the lines of, “Noooo, why?! Let him pull the ball!” And you could just see in his eyes and his smile that he really liked Walker as a hitter."
  5. I remember Seth. You don't believe in the "Clutch" gene. No argument here. Agree to disagree. I am a believer in "Positive Energy" resulting in positive happenings. Guys miss free throws because they are bad at it and they can feel everyone else believes it too. Pitchers are wild because they know they have a tendency to be wild and everyone believes them to be wild as well. Players who can stay in the moment better than others perform better. IMO Positive Energy Brings Positive Results - Gotta Believe
  6. Big time when it matters. MiLB Postseason numbers. [14 Games / 53 ABs / 12 Runs / 15 Hits / 2 Doubles / 4 HRs / 10 BB / 17 SO / 4 SB] ,283 BA .406 OBP .566 SLG .972 OPS #I'mTalkingPlayoffs #WalkerWalks #OBPmachineLol #PushPushPush #NewWeekLastPost
  7. Intangibles do matter to me and should be rewarded after a while: • FSL Championship (1st in decades/ever) • FSL All Star Game MVP (against FSL Best / HR;DB; Single) • FSL Home Run Derby Champion (36 points final Rd / 35 1st Rd) • Final MLB Spring Training Game (call up = 1 HR / 1 DBL) • Best Record in MiLB in 2013 (CR Kernels) / Post Buxton Midwest League Topps MVP • Appy League Championship (Post Season MVP) http://www.milb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20120918&content_id=38611162&vkey=news_l120&fext=.jsp&sid=l120 Some prospects just have a way of raising their game as GM stated. Push
  8. Would you be posting this if it were the Twins squeaking in and they won? If "Ifs and Buts" were candy and nuts......... I'm about results and wins. Royals did that. Enough to get to the world series. Great Year.
  9. I expect Kepler to make a case for potential call ups this year (ala Polanco in 2014).
  10. This is one of the most REAL articles I have read in some time. McCutchen said he would rather be afforded the opportunities of foriegn latin players than the opportunities afforded to african americans (as it pertained to the opportunity to play professional baseball). That was deep. Life is about opportunities and unfortunately, sometimes money is the only way to be afforded those opportunities. The Twins had 0 african americans when Hicks was sent back down. It will be uplifting to see the Hunters, Hicks, and Buxtons in the near future. Only in the case that it will give hope to the MN african american youth out there. The only african american pitching prospect with any possible chance is Tyler Jones. Great article with a very real perspective.
  11. Will Myers and others for James Shields. Helped put Royals in World Series and Myers was higher ranked prospect than Gordon. The New Twins Way
  12. He actually is supposed to go on the 40 man this upcoming Fall. Funny thing about Walker is that, he had generally played well against ranked teams in college. He had the highest batting average in the country his draft year against Friday Night Aces (according to Baseball America). In college he had career averages of: [.359 BA / .441 OBP / .635 SLG / .276 ISO / .474 SecA / .448 BABIP]. All that was done being no older than 20 years old. He rebounded from the poor Cape showing with a very good Junior season (draft year). None of those numbers would have given anyone reason for doubt (pre draft). I say give him the benefit of the doubt and let him fail up. He might surprise everyone like he did his sophomore year in college when he just went off. (back atcha Lol) My last comment on thread. I don't want to deter other comments. Everyone knows I'm a believer by now. Over and Out
  13. I agree with Seth. A corner OFer with 30+ doubles and 15 HRs should be able to stick in a corner spot. Especially if you have a 2B who is hitting for power. That being said: TR does use terms like "Corner bat". What does that tell you about management thinking? Maybe they expect Power from the corner spot. One would think Arcia; Sano; Dozier; and Vargas would be enough Power for any team. Especially when you account for the number of guys who can hit anywhere from 15 to 20 homers (Buxton; Mauer; Plouffe; & Pinto).
  14. It was nice to hear Terry Ryan [on Twins Hot Stove / December 10, 2014 podcast] state: Quote "Adam Brett Walker is one of the more talented players skill wise. He's got all the requisites to be one of those corner bats and a right fielder that's athletic enough to play out there. He's had 2 very good years for us and he just keeps creeping up the ladder and I'll suspect he'll start at AA (Chattanooga) next year, so he's on his way" My quick thought on ABW is he can please everyone with one simple adjustment. Put the ball in play with runners on 2nd or 3rd and 0 to 1 out. No K's allowed. Simple approach. That simple adjustment will result in: 1) less strikeouts per AB and lower K percentage 2) obvious increase in RBI totals (scary thought) 3) putting the ball in play will result in some lucky hits 4) thus increasing BA and OBP and Contact Rate He will still hit 25 to 35 HRs in the Southern League because when he hits the ball it generally goes a LONG WAY. Not many parks can hold him. Now it's time to work on the little things.
  15. He won the MVP doing what he does and won a World Series Title the next year doing what he does. He had and has flaws, but they NEVER get to the World Series without him in that lineup. Even with all there other studs. You better have lights out pitching like the Giants did or a run producer like Howard somewhere in your lineup. IMO That's why I like where Walker lies on list. His future is bright.
  16. I'm not knocking Mauer's ability to drive in runs, I'm saying he needs help. He does move runners over with his doubles and singles, but if the guys behind him can't drive those runs in - "Oh Well". The threat of guys behind him walking, doesn't put the fear of God into opposing pitchers. The fear of guys hitting a 3 run shot is what most pitchers fear. The Twins should have those kind of fearful threats in the near future. Mauer is finally getting that kind of help again (Vargas; Arcia; Sano; Plouffe; Dozier; Etc.).
  17. I love Joe Mauer and he has a lifetime .401 OBP. That has resulted in him averaging 68 runs scored per season over 11 years and 62 RBI per season. For a guy hitting in the middle of the order, those numbers should be much higher. It is not any fault of his, but results in the fact that he doesn't have 6 or 7 other guys on his team who can do what he does. High OBP players need run producers behind them like Vargas and Sano. Regardless to how much they get on base. The game is about timely hits not just hits and getting on base. Baseball critics crucify Votto because he takes too many BBs in situations where his team needs run production. I'm hoping Walker can learn to get on base more, but I'd rather he have more productive ABs in terms of productive RBI (runner on 3rd and no outs).
  18. The funny part about dismissing home runs is that those are hits too. If a player hit 0 HRs and 25 triples and scored as much as Walker, the world would be going crazy. It is more reasonable for a player to continue to hit HRs as he moves up rather than think he will continue to hit triples. Hitting HRs is a skill set. Getting on base is a skill set too, but doesn't equate to runs scored. You need a team of OBP guys to make those runs matter. Hopefully Walker can learn to do both.
  19. That's why I think the Twins Front Office secretly likes AB Walker. Ryan said it recently. Steil said it before. Mauer and Dougie Baseball both beleive in him. He produces RBIs and Runs. He somehow scores himself even when the next guy on his team has difficulty driving in runs. When you can damn near lead your team in Runs Scored and RBI, you have a chance to be special. Hell, I think Walker did a poor job last year at driving in runs and still had 95. He left way too many players on base last year compared to 2013. As he improves his contact and gets those ground out RBIs and Sac Flies, he will be off the chart in terms of RBI. Something the Twins have not had in decades. I think he can make contact in those situations if he is directed to do so. Every team needs a gamechanger somewhere in their line up. The more the better obviously.
  20. For me it's Speed - Power - Arm Those are the God given Tools Good coaching can help with the Hit and Fielding Tool. Not to the point of being great at it, but to the point of being serviceable to allow the God given Tools stand out. Those are the only 2 Tools keeping Buxton from staring in CF to start the season. His God given Tools are good enough for him to play right now. Good Coaching and Hard Work is so underated.
  21. Considering that most prospects have only 3 to 4 true Tools, which 3 of these 5 graded Tools do you value as the most needed for becoming a high valued MLB player? Hit Speed Power Field Throws
  22. Do most of you look at Fangraph as a legitimate publication and / or resource?
  23. What will be the rotation in Chattonooga? Start of Season - Everyone has an idea about the bats, but what about the arms? Do any of them have a chance to be a surprise honorable mention next 13? Rotation ------ Bullpen 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7.
  24. Fangraph Power Grades were as followed: Rosario (A) Game Power 20/45 Raw Power 50/50 Kepler (B ) Game Power 20/50 Raw Power 50/50 Harrison (C ) Game Power 20/45+ Raw Power 50/50 Turner (D) Game Power 20/40 Raw Power 45/45+ Walker (E) Game Power 30/55 Raw Power 65/65 Would these Power results have altered your original guesses? Does it enhance or sour your thoughts of certain prospects? or neither?
  25. I thought there were some interesting perceptions. I left the power grade off intentionally. I wanted this to serve as a more difficult grading option The results are as followed: A). ROSARIO. B ) KEPLER C). HARRISON D). TURNER E). WALKER Do these results cloud your view of what you thought you knew about any of these respective prospects? What was your rationale for your individual grades?
