  1. I agree with young people being stronger than we give them credit for in terms of their preparation for failure. If you address the pitfalls to the young person, you can prepare him to handle those failures a lot better than if you hadn't. Either way, they can learn from those failures and either Get Better or Never Learn. Those are their two options everyday of their professional careers. Ask Torii Hunter. He's played for 19 years and still knows how to learn from mistakes. You can only ruin a kid if you don't prepare him mentally. The physical tools will / should take care of themselves (if they have any). IMO That being said: Every prospect in the Twins organizations AA needs more work. They are not better than the guys who are already up their right now (MLB). So why give up on a season before it has even begun. Buxton, Sano & Walker lead the League in K's. Only a small sample size, but does show they have some work to do in the coming weeks before promotions are thought about. Might not be long from now, but definite work to be done.
  2. The good news is that Chattanooga is still amongst the middle to top of Southern League offensively despite K's. The whole league is struggling offensively with the exception of Mobile. I still feel good things coming. What's made these players great in the past from a teams perspective is that somebody is always picking up the team on any given day. You just never know who it may be during any week.
  3. When the Lookouts stop chasing the low and outside pitch as though they can't reach it, the offense will pick up for Chattanooga. If they can't reach an outside strike without bending over to swing at it, they are obviously too far off the plate. No one is standing confident in the box and just driving the ball the other way. "Hit it where they pitch it". I'm no expert, but everyone seems to be LOADING as they swing instead of LOADED before they swing. In other words UNBALANCED (which leads to defensive swings). GET THE FOOT DOWN EARLY!!!
  4. FRIDAY NIGHTS GAME WAS IN FRONT OF RECORD 9000+ FANS Goodrum 2 for 4 with a HR and Double with 2 RBI in tonight Miracle win. Goodrum is 4 for 8 on season (.500 BA). Serving as an excellent leadoff hitter two games in.
  5. He's a bad dude! Boy can he turn on an inside pitch.
  6. I am impressed with how Toronto went young with Dalton Pompey and Devon Travis and their 20 year old closer. Those guys were in A ball last year for part of the season. Impressive players. Buxton and Sano might have been ready if not for lost year.
  7. Not with the Lookouts striking out 20 times. Lots of work to do
  8. Every righty in the Chattanooga line up chased the same pitch (Down & Away).. ALL NIGHT. 5 of the 7 hits came from Left handed hitting batters (Hicks / Michael / Polanco). Team approach needs some work before tomorrow with down and away. WOW Great reports by the way My Title for tonights game is "3's Company" Strikes per AB or Strikeouts per Game - Either way works here
  9. Great opening night going (2 - 4) with 2 singles. Should fourish as a leadoff hitter for the Miracle until promotion.
  10. Niko Goodrum Full Name: Cartier Niko Goodrum Born: February 28, 1992 Age: 23 Birthplace: Fayetteville, GA Bats: S Throws: R Height: 6' 3" Weight: 198 Draft: Round 2 (2010, MIN) School: Fayette County, Fayetteville, GA Ranked No. 20 among Twins prospects by MLB.com entering the 2013 season. ... Selected by the Minnesota Twins in the second round of the 2010 First-Year Player Draft out of Fayette County High School in Fayetteville, Ga. Goodrum was a huge part of the 2015 FSL Championship. He led the league in stolen bases and was identified as having the Best Infield Arm in the FSL in 2014 by baseball america. In his minor league career, Niko has stolen 74 bases in 87 attempts (84% success rate). His career OBP is .339. As a switch hitter he is significantly better from the Left side in BA & OBP. Arguably the best athlete in the minor leagues outside of Buxton. He needs to move up to AA as soon as Sano moves on or Polanco. Probably a better shortstop, but is hindered from the pressense of Sano and Polanco ahead of him. Could eventually become the next Santana / Escobar and serve as a utility Outfielder and Infielder.
  11. Lookouts lose 4-3 after leading 3-0 in bottom of 9th. Burdi in to close but walks too many. ERA @ 54.00 20 Strikeouts for Lookout batters. It was a Montgomery Biscuit team record. That means 20 of the games 27 outs were strikeouts. Crazy. Let's hope they got the jitters outs. On a positive note - Duffy was amazing with 10 K's thru 6.2 innings. Polanco looked very good with 2 hits and 2 stolen bases.
  12. With 3 of the Twins minor league affiliates starting their seasons today, I'm hoping for some updates as the day goes on. The Red Wings (2:05 EST), Lookouts (8:05 EST), and Kernels (7:30 EST) are all on MiLBTV today. UPDATES
  13. For the record - I'm staying away from AB Walker this year and moving on to a younger prospect. TBD
  14. Team ERA of 3.25. & Team Runs / Per. 5.8 Going on the limb
  15. Chattanooga Lookouts win exhibition game vs Chatt State 8-0. Buxton, Hicks, Walker Drive in 2 RBI Each http://www.milb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20150407&content_id=116871690&fext=.jsp&vkey=news_t498&sid=t498
  16. Peterson has to be the first reliever to come up. Brett Lee should have been promoted. Lee might have a brighter future if he gets traded or released. I see a Matt Tomshaw or Tyler Jones type future. Helpful to the cause of winning games, but never a true prospect in the eyes of management. Let the kid fulfill his dreams with a franchise who actually cares about those dreams.
  17. Now that everyone on this team is on the fast track to the Big Leagues - I hope that they can still play together and keep that winning vibe that made them special thru the lower minors. Most of these kids seemed to truly love playing with and for each other. Although the minors are about development, I'm hoping management recognizes chemistry and brings them along accordingly. Sometimes a youth movement isn't always a bad thing.
  18. Jones does have upside at 95+ MPH Sometimes a player just needs a different voice to steer him in the right path. I don't think this is the last we will hear from Tyler Jones.
  19. Any team with a 72% stolen base rate can't be considered slow IMO
  20. Without including Gonzalez and Hicks: Team Stolen Base Rate in Careers Buxton 72 for 96 (75%) Turner 7 for 8 (87%) Walker 23 for 28 (82%) Kepler 22 for 26 (85%) Michael 37 for 45 (82%) Sano 28 for 41 (68%) Harrison 12 for 21 (57%) Polanco 36 for 65 (55%) 72% team stolen base rate That is not slow (No matter how you cut it) Plus excellent base runners in terms of reading the ball off of bat, which is more important.
  21. Walker hit 7th all Spring & Sano 3rd. Protection happens in MLB not minors IMO
  22. Now that we can guesstimate what the roster will be in Chattanooga and lets assume Kepler can play 1B / DH (only) because of his arm: What's your opening day lineup for the Lookouts (AA) on Thursday? My Guess - Twins MLB philosophy seems to dictate R/L/R/L/R/L/R line ups Berrios SP (assume) 1. Buxton (OF) 2. Polanco (SS) 3. Sano (3B) 4. Kepler (1B) 5. Harrison (OF) 6. Gonzalez (DH) 7. Walker (OF) 8. Turner © 9. Michael (2B)
  23. All you heard all spring was that he made all the plays. He could just be a "big" athlete (ala PaNDA), who again just gets it done. That's my take. He's great until he stops making plays. That's the real world anyway / unfortunately. Fans have little patience.
