  1. Vargas hit better in AA than he did in High A. I'm curious to see who else can mirror that success (Kepler? Walker? Harrison? etc.?). I'd like to see if Chad Allen is the answer? From an outfielder point of view, we need these 3 to take that next step. With Vargas like improvement from each, who would have the most upside after a AA breakout season?
  2. Reynaldo Rodriguez was an organizational all star last year and he just resigned I believe. - Are you discounting him Seth?
  3. Rochester: Hicks CF; Rodriguez LF; Ortiz RF; Krisnicka 4th OF; Chattanooga: Buxton CF; Rosario LF; Walker RF; Kepler 1B/4th OF; Miracle: Kanzler CF: Harrison LF; JD Williams RF; Max Murphy 4th OF; Tony Thomas becomes an infielder at Rochester / utility guy Wilken Ramirez released (if he's still with organization) Robinson stays at MLB level as 4th OFer until Hicks is ready. Eric Farris is a wildcard by end of training camp
  4. What will be the trickle down scenerio after Spring Training within the following outfields in A+ & AA & AAA? There are so many veteran minor league outfielders in the upper levels (Ramirez; Ortiz; Rodriguez; Krisnicka; Thomas; Robinson; Hicks; Etc.. Who will be the 4 Outfielders for each level at the start of their respective seasons?
  5. I can see Turner as that surprise non top 10 to be called up and produce. Duffy is another surprise possibility. I expect the usual suspects to be usual suspects.
  6. As we all get excited about the 7 near Ready for Prime Time Prospects ranked in the Twins Top 10 (Sano, Buxton, Meyer, Berrios, May, Rosario, Polanco), it is also important to remember what it was that excited us about 2014. {Santana (2014 #9 Twins Prospect) and Vargas (Non Top 10 Prospect in 2014)} I know the above 7 have great make up and should help he Twins in the near future, but who will be the next Vargas and Santana's (non top 10 prospects) to help make us special? Will Someone new leapfrog the current top 10 like last season and excel despite their previous minor league limitations? Burdi, Graham, Kepler, Walker, Turner, Etc.............. Either way, the future is bright
  7. Can't argue the assessment of Walker and his contact issues as you explain them. I am waiting for someone to show me a Twins minor league manager or coach that has assessed his flaws in the same manner. They all seem to dismiss his contact issues as a major flaw? Terry Ryan was actaully on Twins HOt Stove and said Walker was "right on pace after having 2 outstanding seasons". Maybe he is doing what is asked of him by Management and Coaches (Just Drive in Runs?). I'd like to know what they think about most high risk - high reward prospects? Most of what I hear is from scouts or writers, but never the Twins. Would be nice to know what management thinks sometimes?
  8. *Do these reports account for the type of pitches various minor leaguers see at the lower levels? *Are better prospects pitched around more? *Do teams with loaded prospects get challenged more because of who is ahead or behind them in a lineup? *Do certain prospects play better with the help of quality scouting reports? *When do minor leaguers get to study film or learn to do so in a proper manor? A / AA / AAA / MLB? *I've always been curious as to what do Managers and Coaches do in the Minors to help prospects become and stay MLB players? Besides grit - what are the molders intangibles?
  9. If AB Walker can rank 1st or 2nd in Runs Scored for Chattanooga as well as average his usual 16 HRs & 61 RBI per 80 games (1/2 of a MLB season) - I think he will finally turn heads in the right direction. Walker will improve his K Rate this season just like he dropped it 10% in Cedar Rapids (2013) when he won the MWL MVP for the season. He may never Walk a lot like Polanco doesn't nor Rosario, but he will have a more productive season in the eyes of the bloggers. I have yet to hear the Twins speak badly of Walker however, and await their 2015 path for him. Needless to say - My Favorite Prospect. Second favorite = Dalton DJ Hicks Happy New Year My 2015 resolution is to post a less bias perspective in 2015
  10. I was curious as to what types of pitches a player like Walker would see if he hit second or third behind a Buxton or Polanco? or in front of a Sano?
  11. Do you think players in the minor leagues get protected by teammates based on talent level. EX: Does a Sano protect a Rosario by batting behind him? If so - Is it better for the protected prospect to not get protected as to see the pitches he will probably need to see moving forward. I thought about this as I made my line up. Should coaches put the not so good hitters in front of the likes of a Sano as to let them see better pitches? Or - Should the not as good hitter - hit behind a speedy Buxton as to get more fastballs? I say this as it pertains to developing prospects faster and not giving a false sense of security by hitting behind or in front of Dangerous prospects. Thoughts........ Does stacking a minor league lineup truly benefit prospects moving forward? for reasons mentioned?
  12. As much as everyone wants to see Chattanooga, they appear to be one of two teams not to have their games televised in Southern League. Meaning we will see less than one half of their games next season. That Sucks. Can anyone confirm if this will be the case? Do the Twins have any say so with television rights or does that go thru Lookouts front office?
  13. I'd love to know how Chad Allen helped Vargas and Sano adjust to AA? They both had great years with him. How was and is his approach different from Watkins or Dwyer? Who will be the new hitting coordinator?
  14. The line up could be crazy - I agree with Seth. 1) Buxton CF 2) Rosario LF (gives Buxton a lefty batter to help with steals) 3) Polanco SS (switch hitter and great contact guy) 4) Sano 3B 5) Walker RF (needs defensive reps) 6) Hicks DH (plays 1B as Kepler plays OF) 7) Kepler 1B (also serves as 4th OFer at LF/CF/RF) 8) Turner C 9) Michael 2B (could easily be a lead off guy from 9th hole) Harrison will be up as soon as Sano or Rosario get promoted. Mejia will serve as utility infielder as Goodrum gets everyday reps in Ft. Meyer. Goodrum gets promoted after Polanco or Sano or Michael get promoted. They could win both halves with these line ups. Garver up by mid season as well.
  15. I wasn't talking about me asking. I meant someone in the media (Seth, Jeremy. Berrnadino, etc). Simple question: What areas are you looking for Byron Buxton to improve on this year? What areas are you looking for Travis Harrison to improve on this year? What areas are you looking for AB Walker to improve on this year? Etc. Very rarely do I hear questions about what is needed for a prospect to progress through the next level. They might answer. They might talk around the question. Just ask.............
  16. Surprised on Burdi and Reed or Jones as well. Figured they would get a taste as well. (1 week)
  17. Wouldn't do me any good if I was . Just waiting on the kid to get a bone. Any kind a bone. He must be destined for the Nylabone (No Taste Walker). I watched him in Cedar Rapids and became a huge fan. I feel like I'm a great judge of talent and it just kills me that I'm the only one to be on his band wagon. I guess that's my hang up. I get where everyone is coming from - I'm just disappointed because I have never seen the kid shown any tangible love during his career. I wanted him to practice with the MLB coaches and not just play in a couple of games (1 week). Still waiting on rationale for an individual who can have such a terrible OBP yet rank 1st or 2nd on his team in runs scored every year (on championship teams)? What is the saber metric justification for that result. I would argue that he probably has as many full counts as anyone on the team as well. His problem to me is that he is not aggressive enough. Those are one of the questions I would love to hear what management thinks. Please ask that one day Seth if you get a chance.
  18. Most 3rd rounders in their 4th year have received a taste of SS. He can get sent back down after a week or 2 but at least get a taste. Learn in practice from the MLB coaches and get a taste of what is expected. Productive with Flaws deserves at least a week IMO. No one truly expected Vargas to make that jump to the MLB last year. Maybe as a September call up because he was on 40 man. Noone thought he would be as good as he was. I suspect that the MLB SS gave him much more confidence going forward into his AA season. Just Saying
  19. Disappointed for AB Walker 2 League Championships (2012 & 2014) Best Record in Minors / MiLB (2013) Averages: 33 HRs / 124 RBI / 102 Runs / 82% SB Rate / .310 OBP Midwest League MVP Mid Season and Post Season All Star 2013 & 2014 Only Spring Training Game (2 for 2 w/Double and HR) Never Promoted No AFL appearances Being a Top 20 Prospect in your 4th season really doesn't mean much within the Twins organization. How helpful would it have been to learn under Brunansky and Hunter and Vavra and Glynn and Molitor for a kid with "All Star Potential". Talk about killing a kids spirit. WOW Dogs get bigger bones thrown at them than this kid
  20. It was bad enough that the FSL had no televised games due to attendance issues in the Florida State League. There was pretty much (0) highlights of any Miracle prospects in 2014. Now all those players move on to AA. The new affiliate "Lookouts" were one of 2 teams in the entire Southern League with No televised broadcast in 2014. Huntsville and Chattanooga were the only 2 teams with no televised home games in the 10 team Southern League. Did the Twins negotiate a TV deal for the Lookout in 2015 or should we fans expect some of the same. The Lookouts were the only team to not be broadcasted regularly when playing, even in other parks that had televised games. Will we be able to see the likes of Sano, Buxton, Rosario, Polanco, Kepler, Berrios, Michael, Walker, Burdi, Jones, Wheeler, Harrison, Goodrum, Hicks, Stuart, etc., regularly, like the other teams get to see their prospects grow?
  21. I would like to know what management expects from their prospects individually? What is it that they expect from Buxton that will propel him tho the MLB quickly? Same for Kepler and Polanco, etc.? We all guess as to what they want and when they should promote, but wouldn't it be easier to ask what thier expectations are for each promising propsect in the system? As a general guide moving forward................
  22. In connection with the Hunter question: I'm hoping that Walker gets an invite to the MLB camp so that he can receive some insight from the likes of Torri Hunter out in RF. I think Kepler will benefit just as well. It has been noted that Walker has contact issues, but it is also noted that he takes first pitch strikes and runs counts to 3-2 quite often. Maybe the likes of a Hunter could get him to stay agressive and understand how pitchers might pitch a guy with his skill set at the big league level. I think the new coaches and manager along with Hunter will provide some major upgrades this year offensively as well as defensively. New voices sometimes bring new results.
  23. Terry Ryan was on Twins Hot Stove last week (December 10th) and gave Adam Brett Walker some mild but kind words regarding his future: http://minnesota.twins.mlb.com/min/fan_forum/hotstove.jsp 23 minute mark Walker was on the Hot Stove as well talking about his knack for producing runs and winning. He showed his teammates some love as he talks about their belief in each other and everyones will to win. 42 minute and 30 second mark
  24. My concern with prospects and their leagues is that promotions matter. I find no benefit with leaving a promising prospect in the same league for this reason: 1. If you promote a prospect mid season - the benefit goes to the prospect because teams have yet to have a true scouting report on him. They have a report, but nothing like the ones managers utilize after seeing a guy 5 to 10 games by mid season. 2. If a prospect is held at a level for an entire season to work on (whatever) - advantage opposing teams. Those managers have seen a prospect a gazillion times and can now throw out new pitchers or new hitters who were just promoted to attack such prospect. That held back prospect does not benefit from seeing the same people to adjust to any particular thing. 2nd half teams across the minors are generally new in make up. 3. You don't find promising prospects repeating levels for an entire year. They get promoted and tend to repeat the first half of a previous season to see if they in fact have mastered concepts and approaches. Many times they are seeing the same players they faced the previous second half of a season. Recall matters in baseball. Tendencies matter in baseball. Advantage to the guy who can make those overall adjustments. To the guy who knows what he needs to work on in the off season because he's been there already. We expect Vargas and Santana to be better prepared for the MLB this year because they had a sniff of what it's like. They have seen pitchers and hitters within their division already. Now through their coaches and manager they can better prepare for their new season as to what to expect and why. I firmly believe that holding back a promising prospect is not as simple as "work on this / work on that". I think that when writers talk about a prospects struggle to adjust after seeing a team a whole year, they are not holding into account that those managers are the same but the players they face are mostly new.
