  1. Sunday Oct. 14 6:09 pm CST ALDS Game 2 Houston Astros at Boston Red Sox (HOU leads 1-0) TV: TBS
  2. Saturday Oct. 13 3:09 pm CST Dodgers at Brewers TV: Fox (free TV!) 7:09 pm CST Astros at Red Sox TV: TBS
  3. Dozier leading off the 6th as a pinch hitter... ...and is retired on a foul pop up to the catcher.
  4. Successful challenge by Counsell leads to another run, 5-1 Brewers.
  5. Woodruff's spot comes up again, with runners on 2nd and 3rd and nobody out. Brewers pinch hit Domingo Santana, who promptly delivers a 2 run single, knocking Kershaw out of the game with the Brewers leading 4-1 in the 4th. Counsell is looking pretty good this game so far!
  6. Looks like the Dodgers went with a righty-heavy lineup for LHP Gonzalez, so now RHP Woodruff gets to face a lot of righty batters. Or the Dodgers have to start pinch-hitting, which they already did (Muncy for Freese), but that will leave them vulnerable if the Brewers switch to another LHP like Hader (who has already started warming), or if they just want to pinch hit for their own pitchers. Very much not traditional SP usage, but very interesting nonetheless!
  7. I just tuned into the Dodgers-Brewers game late, and noticed the Brewers had a really quick hook for Gio Gonzalez (just 2 innings), and they didn't even wait until he was up at the plate, so his reliever Woodruff had to bat. Then Woodruff launched a HR off of Kershaw.
  8. Baseball's back tonight! Friday Oct. 12 7:09 pm CST NLCS Game 1 Dodgers (Kershaw) at Brewers (Gonzalez) TV: FS1 Radio: ESPN
  9. I think one of the biggest start time sleights was back in 2006 -- A's versus Twins ALDS, games 1 & 2 in Minneapolis started at 12:10 CST -- which meant fans in Oakland (yes, there are a few ) got the pleasure of watching their club at 10:10 AM local time. Of course, those same fans were able to take comfort in an Oakland sweep. I guess 2002 A's-Twins ALDS wasn't much better -- B-Ref says the Minneapolis games were 1:00 CST starts, so those broadcasts started in Oakland at 11:00 AM local time. (Looks like the Giants-Braves NLDS game 1 was at 1 PM EST that year, which would also have been 10:00 AM local time in San Francisco.) FWIW, doesn't look like any team had a broadcast start before 12:30 local time this postseason.
  10. Apparently enough of them do like Boston and New York: "Red Sox-Yankees provide ratings boost for TBS" https://www.nbcsports.com/boston/red-sox/red-sox-yankees-provide-ratings-boost-tbs
  11. I still can't believe it, but I was cheering for the Yankees again last night. But I won't cry too many tears now that they have been eliminated! No games Wednesday or Thursday this week -- that's worth some tears. Hopefully the LCS round goes deeper than the DS round. The Dodgers-Brewers NLCS starts Friday on FS1/Fox, and the Astros-Red Sox ALCS begins Saturday on TBS.
  12. Like Brian said, in the context of these forums, there are always going to be people right/wrong. It's just the nature of the beast. However, in the context of the front office, I don't think it's their job to simply avoid these kind of moves either. I got the impression that the old front office did just that -- they couldn't make any big mistakes because they avoided big moves altogether. Still early with the new front office, but I hope they don't fall into the same trap. In that sense, I think these Brewers are a positive example. It doesn't mean that a particular big move X makes sense for the Twins now, but if the new FO is doing their jobs correctly, they should be expected to make some big move X over time period Y -- even if it tightens payroll, even if it doesn't make us a favorite to win the World Series or even our own division, etc.
  13. But the Mets weren't selling, at least not at Marlins prices. FWIW, the Brewers did sign a 2.5 WAR SP in Chacin, and they made a Twins-like effort at Darvish too. I don't think they recklessly ignored the rotation, I just think the opportunities weren't necessarily there. Credit to them for not just folding/waiting, and instead they found other areas to improve their 86 win team from last year. (Even if they did benefit from luck to get them up to 96 this year.)
  14. I think there was some luck involved, of course, but the rotation outlook wasn't that bad. Chase Anderson was very good in 2017, as was Jimmy Nelson although he went down at season's end with a shoulder injury. (Nelson wound up missing all of 2018, but that wasn't known at the time.) Plus a rising prospect like Freddy Peralta, and they had already shown some ability to coax useful performances out of guys like Davies, Suter, Guerra, etc. (And this year, Chacin, Miley, and Gio Gonzalez.) That's not a rotation on par with Houston or Cleveland or whatever, but it's also not bad enough that you should pass on opportunities like Yelich and Cain. Or you are pretty much going to be waiting until forever to do anything, and who's to say guys like Yelich and Cain will even be available at those prices if/when your rotation looks stronger.
  15. I remember the chop prominently from the 1991 World Series, in which Deion did not play. He did debut for the Braves in 1991, but only had 110 AB and a .191 AVG, after batting .178 across 180 AB with the Yankees in 1989-1990. (He did have 2 seasons under his belt with the Falcons by that point, though.) Here's an SI article from August 1991 that briefly notes the chop "may have followed" Sanders from FSU. The stadium organist is quoted as saying it caught on with fans by mid-June, at which time Sanders was in the minor leagues: https://www.si.com/vault/1991/08/19/124728/end-of-the-slide-after-going-four-years-without-so-much-as-a-winning-month-the-atlanta-braves-are-serious-contenders-in-the-national-league-west
  16. Tuesday Oct. 9 7:07 pm CST ALDS Game 4 Boston Red Sox at New York Yankees (BOS leads 2-1) TV: TBS Tonight the Red Sox try to advance to the ALCS to face the Astros, while the Yankees try to force a game 5 for Thursday.
  17. Ultimately a 16-1 Red Sox / Yankees tilt, yeesh!
  18. Nah, keep it here, if you like. Beats watching a 10-1 Red Sox / Yankees tilt!
  19. Former Twin Lance Lynn coming into the game in New York. Bases loaded, nobody out in the 4th, Yankees already trailing 3-0. Edit to add: 4 pitch walk to the first batter, 4-0. Further edit to add: bases-clearing double, now 7-0.
  20. Oh yeah, the axe bat. Suzuki had a 103 wRC+ after switching full-time to the axe bat in his final Twins season in 2016. He's still been better than that in both seasons with Atlanta, especially last year.
  21. I just read the observation elsewhere that the Indians and Braves were both just eliminated on Columbus Day today. Yankees / Red Sox is the only division series left to decide. So we will still have 1 game tomorrow (Tuesday), and potentially a game 5 Thursday. Dodgers-Brewers NLCS will begin Friday, with the ALCS following on Saturday.
  22. Looks like Suzuki's 2 RBI may go for naught, as the Dodgers have come back to take a 6-2 lead. Machado might be heating up finally, with a 3 run HR and a RBI double today.
  23. Actually just 12 HR, although 19 last year. The Twins misjudged, but the rest of the league did too. His performance with Atlanta really came out of nowhere.
  24. I don't know -- Miller and Allen would be good "buy low" candidates.
  25. Another fairly big day, with 3 games -- and 2 potential series clinchers. I think all the games are free on ESPN Radio, if you are stuck at work during the day games. And the evening game starts at a reasonable time tonight! Monday Oct. 8 12:30 pm CST ALDS Game 2 Houston at Cleveland (HOU leads 2-0) TV: TBS 3:30 pm CST NLDS Game 3 Los Angeles Dodgers at Atlanta Braves (LAD leads 2-1) TV: FS1 6:40 pm CST ALDS Game 2 Boston Red Sox at New York Yankees (series tied 1-1) TV: TBS
