  1. Pay for the best available: Darvish Keep the draft picks, allow room for one of Romero/Gonsalves/Littell, let Gibson show us if the second half was a trend or mirage, let Meija continue to grow. With our upgraded bullpen, rotation of Darvish/Santana/Berrios/Gibson/Meija is pretty solid.
  2. Twins ranked 10th in defensive efficiency, 10th in DRS, 4th in fielding percentage.... seems to me our overall defense was well above average. Aside from Dozier, who isn't going anywhere through 2018, the other soft spot did okay in a relatively small sample size. Personally I believe we can make incremental defensive improvement by focusing on our rotation and bullpen. Much easier to field a weak ground ball than it is to sacrifice your body to keep a 110 MPH screamer in the infield. All teams have deficiency in certain areas, but play the best available at each position. Difference is we don't have as strong a pitching staff as teams that went deep into the playoffs to protect defensive liability.
  3. I was really down on Rosario coming into this season. After nearly 800 PAs, under 20 BBs to 200+ K's made me worry about his ability to control the strikezone and keep his aggressiveness in check. Although he was only 24 at the end of last season, I wasn't confident he could overcome those issues considering similar issues with other prospects that raked at every level of the system, but couldn't put it together with the big club. Proud to say he has made me a believer this season.
  4. I haven't read every reply to this thread, sorry if this has been asked. Your reply sparked a question: Had Souhan's original article never happened, would people even be talking about Sano's weight in relation to injury and rehab? My opinion is that people would be saying "Damn, that ball must've hit his leg harder than everyone thought."
  5. Agree on Lewis take. However, Greene has the skill set of a mid-first round SS, while being the near consensus best arm in the draft class. We could have selected him at 1:1 and still landed Rooker at #35. I'm not upset because they chose a different direction. They're the experts. But it would have been so damn exciting to see Hunter Greene and all his hype move up the ranks in the Twins system.
  6. That's exactly why I lurk this site more than I post. TD has made more educated and tempered about a sport I'm truly interested in, while helping me avoid work.
  7. It's sort of a toss up for me. I will continue questioning the Twins draft strategy based on the outcome. But the greater point I tried to make was simple perspective on our choices using player rankings from the MLB website. Too many people seem to be relating NFL/NBA draft to MLB Amateur draft. So many variables to consider rather than "#1 ranked player should be picked #1." Additionally, many of these picks may not sniff AA, let alone start in a MLB All Star game.
  8. This point can't be emphasized enough. Although I was all about Greene at #1, drafting Lewis to save money for later picks, while picking guys at certain points to mitigate the amount of money lost if they don't sign is an incredibly savvy move by Falvey/Levine. I tend not to focus too much on player rankings since they vary by between publications. But for those that only see it as black & white, look at it this way ... we got the #5, #29, and #50 best players according to MLB.com in the first three rounds.
  9. .271/.368/.470, 12 HR, 53 RBI. 35 BB, 55 Ks, 111 TB (83 next best on team) ... tough crowd. Makes more sense if he didn't catch most of this season.
  10. Anyone have insight into JJ Schwarz? Two Florida catchers have been taken, while he is still waiting for his name to be called. Prior to the start of the season, he was mid-first round discussion. Down year offensively, but I don't see why teams, especially the Twins whom seemingly always has catcher issues, have passed on him through six rounds.
  11. I had to check the calendar to make sure it wasn't April 1st. How is this move necessary when we have Berrios or Gibson can come back up to make the start Saturday? Gibson may not be on schedule for a start Saturday, but I'd take him on short rest over this guy.
  12. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe the Twins received $50K for the 1st pick. So if Haley doesn't work out, we lose nothing. *Edit: words
  13. I'd run with Reid-Foley and Greene only, if offered. I can't imagine the Blue Jays would give up both for Santana, let alone adding Pentecost. If it happens, do the Twins officially hire Antony as GM?
  14. As a Twins fan, I'm stoked. We are trading players at peak value, at least with the Twins, for players with potential at positions of need. In my opinion, this is what committing to a rebuild looks like. Here's to hoping for a haul in return for Santana!
  15. Plot thickens..... Nygaard on Twitter "Just got a text that Santana got trade....." I'm not TD message board savvy enough to post the image.
  16. Blue Jays don't have much in their system. RHP Sean Reid-Foley is their #2 prospect, #93 on the MLB 100. He pitched in low-A Lansing, and is currently at Dunedin. Blue Jays prospects are easy to keep tabs on since they follow the same A to AAA path as the Twins: MWL, FSL, IL. He is about a year or two away from being MLB ready. Split between A and A+, his 2016 numbers are ridiculous. Still only 20 years old. I'd like a package from Toronto for Santana that includes Reid-Foley.
  17. Report of the Blue Jays scouting Santana surprised me. I'd love to see a package of RHP Sean Reid-Foley or RHP Conner Greene and C Danny Jansen. That's a huge haul for Santana, but he's under contract for what will be considered a very reasonable price considering the SP Free Agent market this off-season.
  18. Ugh ... depressing to look at the list of starting pitchers with a lower salary than Nolasco this year: Arrieta, Strasburg, Bumgarner, Sale ... Y U DO DIS!?
  19. Any talk of trading Joe is a complete waste of keyboard typing energy. We can discuss hypothetical scenarios with him gone, but why bother? I don't mind the idea of keeping Santana for some veteran presence in the rotation. He's surrendered 10 earned runs over his last six starts, dating back to his Father's Day win at home against the Yankees. Normally I'd be thrilled with his performance bolstering his trade value. However, I'm more thrilled he has put us in positions to win games than other SPs in the rotation. It's also important to have a mentor for our young guys, more especially for Spanish speaking top pitching prospects ... cough, cough, wink, wink. If we can't find a trade partner for Nolasco and/or Milone, which is very likely, one or both need to be DFA'd to make room for Berrios. At this point I also feel like Wheeler should be given a shot in the rotation. He's putting up numbers similar to Berrios in Rochester.

  21. As someone that suffered a partially torn rotator cuff in my early 20's, now in my mid-30's, everyday tasks have become problematic. Carrying groceries, holding a kid, even doing yard work, all cause discomfort and pain. I can't begin to imagine the pain trying to throw 95+ MPH fastballs with movement. I've always been a fan of Glen. I wish you a speedy recovery, good sir.
  22. All the more reason we need to draft Chad. If for no other reason than to make Thanksgiving dinner that much more interesting for their family.
  23. Heck ... Hockin is Killer's grandson, his favorite MLB team is the Twins, and he's a college reliever. The stars have aligned for all parties involved.
  24. Twins have to draft RHP Chad Hockin out of Cal State Fullerton ... taken from his player bio. PERSONAL Born in Upland, Calif…parents are John Hockin and Erin Killebrew…has three older brothers (John, Robert, Garrett) and one younger brother (Grant)…major is communications…grandfather Harmon Clayton Killebrew (June 29, 1936 - May 17, 2011), was signed by the Washington Senators in 1954 at the age of 17. During his 22-year career in Major League Baseball, was named an American League All-Star 13 times, the 1969 American League Most Valuable Player and a six-time American League home run leader. In 1984, Killebrew joined baseball’s immortals with his election into the Hall of Fame…uncle Cam Killebrew was drafted by Texas Rangers in the 25th round of the 1978 Major League Draft and spent three years in professional baseball…has volunteered with Miracle Fields, a charity his grandfather started…models his game after his grandfather and writes “HK3” on the mound before every outing…enjoys golfing, snowboarding, mountain biking and fishing…favorites include: Kyle Lohse, Jeff Locke (baseball players), Target Field (baseball stadium), Harmon Killebrew (athlete), Mac Miller (musical artist), Minnesota Twins (baseball team), “61” (movie), “Cat in the Hat” (book), Charlie Sheen (actor), sushi (food).
