  1. Interesting article. Does anyone know if the Twins sell Vargas to an Asian team and he plays out his contract in Asia then returns to the States is he then a free agent or still property of the Twins? If he is a free agent, can there be either a binding or wink-wink deal that, when/if he does come back, it will be to the Twins since they are foregoing an option year to let him develop while making good money? Also, did anybody read anything into Radcliff's comment that Arcia wants to be an MLB star?
  2. In contrast to the Metrodome where left-hand power was at a premium (think baggy), Target Field plays to right-hand power and the Twins have been actively trying to get right-hand power in their system over the past few years. That said, it would be nice if Arcia could figure things out because he has the type of left-hand power that plays at Target Field and could be placed between the right-handed power in the lineup. Might have to live with 700 strikeouts from the middle of the order however.
  3. Shed 100 million in salary and take back 40 million. This stuff was bantered about at the trade deadline and Ryan has said in the past that deals that don't get made at the deadline sometimes get made in the off-season as the initial negotiations have taken place. It's the prospects that Terry would throw in that would be important to San Diego. Too many to add all of them to the 40 man.
  4. Article from the San Diego Union regarding what San Diego is looking for and who might be on the trading block in order for them to accomplish it, including Shields, Kimbrel. Benoit, and Norris. Any deal the Twins would make that included Shields would have to include Nolasco so it ends up a net 3 year 40 million investment but a blockbuster that included Shields, Kimbrel and Norris would get me excited for next year. San Diego is looking for left-handed bats, left-handed pitching, a shortstop, and a third baseman. http://www.sandiegouniontribune.com/news/2015/nov/07/padres-hot-stove-offseason-preview/
  5. First, I'm not saying these two were/are the same type of prospects but I thought it would be interesting to compare the stats between Jose Berrios and Yohan Pino, only because they are on the small size and I was hopeful for Pino back in the day. Pino 2005 through 2009 compared to Berrios 2012 through 2015. Eerily similar at comparable ages. AA seemed to give Pino more trouble. http://www.milb.com/player/index.jsp?player_id=621244#/career/R/pitching/2015/ALL http://www.milb.com/player/index.jsp?player_id=464416#/career/R/pitching/2015/ALL
  6. According to scouting reports: "Jay has added a changeup to his repertoire and it shows promise as long as he continues to work on it." If he can develop this pitch into being solid average or better, he should fare better against right handed batters. Plus, it is an emphasis in the organization.
  7. Is this the day Molitor puts both Sano and Vargas in the lineup together (sit Joe due to a day game following a night game)? Also, over at the Twins site, it was speculated that Hunter would be back in the outfield over Rosario today due to a left hander on the mound for Houston. Honestly, at this point, I'd rather see Rosario get the start regardless, or even Danny Santana if Molitor feels like the matchup is too unfavorable for Eddie. Love Hunter but his second half is not really small sample size anymore.
  8. “He’s not ready to be an average Major League player tomorrow. He’s along that path. He’s doing good things, he’s produced. He’s hitting .340 but he still doesn’t take at-bats and swing at strikes and handle breaking balls like he is going to have to do to be an average hitter in the Major Leagues,” What's Radcliff saying here? His expectation for Kepler is to be an "average" major league hitter? We shouldn't hope/expect that he will put up numbers in the majors anything like what he is doing at AA? Interesting comments.
  9. His regression seems to coincide with the promotions of Buxton and Sano. Maybe he is not getting at-bats in as many favorable situations. Just a theory. No empirical evidence.
  10. Arizona Fall League? Winter Ball for a short stint? Only 80 innings pitched so far this year.
  11. I read this report almost every morning and just wanted send my appreciation out to all those who put the work in putting it together. Great read.
  12. Maybe he is better and/or cheaper than some of our current starters (e.g., Pelfrey, Nolasco, post PED Santana, Milone)? Guy just threw a six inning one-hitter while being so nervous he didn't know whether he should pitch from the stretch or the wind-up. The best thing for the Twins would be that he stays in the rotation long-term and his stuff allows him to put up similar numbers in the show compared to his AA and AAA numbers this year.
  13. Just reading the recap, it looks like 2 hit batters, 4 wild pitches, and some ground ball singles did Stewart in last night before a couple of hard hit balls, In all, 7 earned over 5.1 innings. Going to be fun watching these two down the stretch. Hopefully, the competition brings the best out of each.
  14. Interesting to go back and watch the the Stewart and Gonsalves introductory press conference (link below) and, after listening to Gonsalves say he hopes to pass a few first rounders up, think about where the two are today. Has Gonsalves passed Stewart up? Stewart will be on the mound tonight following up Gonsalves who threw five innings of no-hit ball last night. I wonder if there is any sort of competition there. As a Twins fan, of course, I hope they turm out both to be quality major leaguers. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h7dJ-wkGXFQ
  15. Arcia with 5 BB in his last 5 games (5 BB in his first 35). Trend or mirage? Hopefully a sign of a better approach. Love to see the good Arcia in the lineup against right handers at least. Can a Hicks/Arcia platoon become an above average corner outfielder?
  16. Next, next - Wander Javier? Probably just gave him the kiss of death as I posted about J.T. Chargois the other day and he promptly went out and gave up 6 earned in 2/3 of an inning. Ugh.
  17. Might be a little low for JT Chargois. Guy has a really high ceiling. Triple digit heat with, what was called during instructs, two other plus pitches. Outpitching Burdi, Reed, and Jones at AA (small sample).
  18. Last season's disappointment was the injuries to Buxton and Sano. This season it seems to be the performances of Meyer, Reed and Burdi. Coming off last season and the fall league, I imagined Meyer as a number one or two starter (if only for five or six innings) and Burdi and Reed as a couple of seventh, eighth, or ninth inning guys. An ace and a shutdown bullpen possibly all with the Twins in 2015. Hope all get their seasons turned around. Baseball is a hard game.
  19. It will be interesting to see how he does. I'm sorry I don't know how to embed tweets. User Actions Follow Kevin OklobzijaVerified account ‏@kevinoDandC And with Chih-Wei Hu coming up from Fort Myers for a Tuesday spot start with the #ROCRedWings, let the Hu's on the mound jokes begin.
  20. When Baxendale was going lights out at Fort Meyers, I heard Ryan mention that he expected Baxendale to reach the majors (stuff, makeup, etc.). I hope he does well at AA this year. That would be a step in the right direction after a season and a half of regression.
  21. How many at bats will Arcia get against Trevor Bauer this year. James might be selling him short. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z4obYRzb1U8
  22. Ignoring the no trade clause, if you were the Twins' GM would you trade for Cole Hamels? If so, what would you give up. One limit: payroll can't go to $150,000,000 (Pohlad). Hamels Houghes Santana Nolasco (could you replace him with Meyers or Berrios/are one or both in the trade?) Gibson Not a bad staff signed through 2018
  23. Can you ask Alex what Scott Boras is like from a client's perspective?
  24. To me, the relievers in the pipeline cause me to be very optimistic about the Twins near future. It seems both Meyer and May are going to throw too many pitches to get through five or six innings and our other starters (Houghes may be the exception) will struggle to get through the opponents batting order three or four times. If the starters can go five or six and the Twins can bring in Reed, Burdi, Jones, Chargois, etc., not to mention Perkins, five or six may be all the starters need to deliver. The offense is already coming along (sixth in runs scored in 2014) and the additions of Sano and Buxton are looming. It's going to be a good decade to be a Twins fan in the not too distant future. Gleeman needs to get off Terry Ryan. How long did it take for the Pirates and Royals to rebuild? Decades? Ryan is probably going to have it done in five years (2011 - 2015).
  25. Rosario has been playing RF for his winter league team. If he could play 2nd base that would mean alot more for the Twins.
