  1. I mean, the addage is, buy low, sell high, right? So how do you people buy stocks with 300+ multiples and not crap yourselves. There is so much expectation of earnings growth already priced into the stock. What calculation are you making that says, "no this stock is STILL cheap?"
  2. I hope you're right. Santana looked fine in CF and he's fine in a utility role IMO. Sano's defense OTOH is going to look more like Bartlett-Nunez-Escobar's I'm afraid.
  3. Netflix's has some really good original content. It will only get better and broader as the subscriber base grows, and then they can start ratcheting up the $8.99 price tag which is dirt cheap for the amount consumed. I think I read something like 45% of all internet traffic was Netflix streaming. I know they could charge double and I'd still probably buy it. That said, its already trading at 300+ P/E so who knows if that potential is already priced in.
  4. OK but watch as I dismantle your reasoning effortlessly: Clinton- botox face Bush- wrong last name Kasich- pansy Christie- someone's cartoon parody of a New Jerseyan. Also too fat.
  5. I'm as guilty of this as anyone but it is interesting to hear, after 79 pages of debate about policy and values and who's right and who's Voldemort, that it comes down to things like age, personality, and height for voters. (Again I consider these things too).
  6. Why so red? There are like 15 other red teams.
  7. IMO the Twins need to sink or swim with the kids. And not Tonkin, Graham, Kintzler, etc. I mean the kids in Seth's top 5.
  8. The change is good but I cannot shake the images of Clippard choking in the postseason.
  9. Trump isn't a Democrat, but he isn't a conservative either. If/when he wins the R nom, there's going to be a void for a socially progressive, business minded conservative to step in. Maybe that will finally pull the party towards a focused, 21st century platform in the next election.
  10. The bottom line is I find it highly unlikely that the market is so inefficient as to favor players in a lopsided way over ownership. The fact that teams continue to agree to opt-out clauses after players keep excercising them, proves the fairness of the deals to both parties. Whether they do it to avoid decline years, etc. is speculation on my part. I admit I could be completely wrong about that (but I doubt it).
  11. *In the first three years, when that risk is relatively small. But it grows every year he remains under contract after that. The opt-out precludes him falling off a table in years 4+ and leaving the Dodgers with the bill (and saves ~5% off the price tag, and raises the chances for a comp pick). That is the upside for teams missing from Kab's scenario A. I mean, unless there's another reason. Nobody points a gun to a team's head when they sign these contracts. Clearly they see some benefit to them.
  12. OK well the McCarthy deal looks bad because they got a player in his decline years (and an oft-injured one at that). It really clashes with their Greinke and Maeda contracts which suggest they value youth. Like Chief said, the whole idea seems to be about avoiding decline years. In the rare case that someone opts out and proceeds to not decline as most other players do, that's not much of a risk at all. That's an exceptional player.
  13. Nice write up. I seem to remember a few Tiant-Cueto comparisons were made during the playoffs last year. Similar, funky windups. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nn_FbRkZIvM
  14. The Dodgers cannot possibly have any regrets about the Greinke deal. They got great value over the last three years. And now they have cash to go sign Maeda who will be 28 and is a decent bet to give better value over the next 3 years than Greinke. Plus they get a comp pick. IMO where the equation favors the player more is when you have an older, less elite player, and where the money is backloaded. The Kennedy-Royals contract, basically. That is going to burn the Royals.

  20. I don't think that's how illegal labor works. Not sure where this all went wrong, it kinda sounds like you think companies who pay illegals are still beholden to the min. wage, and not the black market wage. That price would be impacted by a change in supply-demand of jobs and labor, but still independent of the min. wage, no?
  21. OK well, luckily for you there is one candidate who promises to: build a wall with Mexico (and make them pay for it) deport the illegals here raise tarriffs on Chinese made products, thus addressing outsourcing.
  22. And you assume that because -$15/hr would be expand the labor pool to include workers who previously would not be motivated to work these jobs at $7.25. Combined with -Additional outsourcing that reduces the number of jobs and creates an environment where only the most highly qualified, American workers would be hired, thereby reducing illegal migrants who cannot meet such standards, is that right? If that's the case, what is it about the high quality American worker, that makes him/her so much more productive at flipping a burger or swinging a hammer at $15/hr, than one and a half Mexicans doing it at $10/hr? Or are you suggesting Americans would fill the jobs at $10/hr instead of Mexicans?
  23. It sounds like you're saying one American who is willing to do unskilled labor at $15/hr, and not $7.25, is more productive than one and a half illegals who would do the same work at $10/hr. I disagree. Americans do not hustle any more than illegals. In fact the opposite is true, in my experience.
  24. The only explanation I can figure, is that they think they can coach both pitchers up against lefties. Otherwise they are just handicapping themselves by limiting their pool of candidates for getting lefthanded batters out, to lefthanded throwers. Why do I get the feeling its the latter.
  25. I think we agree that a min. wage hike would increase pressure on companies to find cheaper labor. You seem to think companies would relieve that pressure by outsourcing jobs. IMO outsourcing and illegal immigration seem like two sides of the same coin, and companies can relieve increasing labor costs either way, depending on what makes the most sense for them.
