I'll say this, just comparing Sano's minor league fielding percentage straight up to some of the worst 3Bs in recent memory (Jerry Hairston, Aviles, Cantu, and Eduardo Nunez), Sano's .902 fielding percentage is the worst and its not even that close.
Yeah. Course the follow up is "he can get better like Plouffe did." Well maybe, but what precendent is there? Plouffe is a bad example because he was a better fielder than Sano was at every level. Hell he was better at short than Sano has ever been at third. If I get time maybe I'll try to find some precendent for the magnitute of improvement that would be needed to bring Sano up to being an average fielder, from such a low minors baseline.
The sample size argument is interesting. Would he still use it if Sano committed no errors over this stretch of baseball? We do have 3000 innings of minor league defense to draw from too, where Sano committed roughly an error per every 10 chances.
If he reigned in the walks I think he'd help his stock a lot. Hitters just can't get under his fastball. If he cut down the walks maybe he could force himself up as a GIDP specialist type role, if there's room for that in a bullpen.
One of the NFLX directors bought 600k shares over the last three days so its getting a bump. I hold NFLX and will continue holding. Its programming is expanding into French, Japanese, etc. and I can think of no good reason viewers in those places wouldn't soak it up just as people here soak up the English language shows.
Well yeah, the sinker is all he throws. His offspeed stuff is so bad he can't go to it. He is what Mike Pelfrey would look like in the pen. Its a matter of time before hitters expose him because all they have to do is sit on the fastball.
Maybe you give him 30 seconds to have 2-3 warmups just to toe the rubber and dig a landing spot. The broadcast could run a 30 second in-game ad.
But they shouldn't need a full 2:05 break just to swap in a pitcher.
And by all means, truck em in on a golf cart that has a big Miller ad on the side.
Landa since Jun 28-
8G, 11.2 IP, 10H, 6ER, 0HR, 6BB, 7SO, 54%GB
Landa's workload continues to be steady, usually a 1-2 IP appearance every 2-3 days. Hasn't allowed a HR since 7/29/15.
That's exactly why outsourcing all warmups to the bullpen seems like a good idea IMO. You could have the pitching changes but cut down on the warmups and you save game time that way. If a guy's not warm, then the current pitcher will be bound by the pitch clock to keep facing batters until he is warm.
The trend isn't good but he did suffer a finger injury earlier this season. I would want to check him out medically for sure but even if he stayed where he is now that would be almost 95 mph perceived velo.
If something stuck out that you believed could be coached up, I'd hope the Twins would go after him hard.
His arb-clock is fine.
The more I think about it, the more I think Miller is exactly the sort of player the Twins should call on. He still has good raw stuff, seems like a guy who might be one or two tweaks away from taking the next step.
edit: Although I still wonder why the D'backs are selling him, rather suddenly. Would be good to get an answer about that first.
Alex Bregman debuts for the Astros tonight.
Not clear what position he'll be at.

Looks like Miller served a 15 day DL stint last month for a "lingering" finger injury. Not sure how much that affected his season, or why that would be enough to bail on the guy 8 months after selling the farm to get him. Something doesn't quite smell right.
But, definitely worth a call.
After watching the last month of baseball its increasingly clear to me this is not, or shouldn't be, a Sano v. Plouffe question. Sano simply can't hack it at third. I don't care how "rusty" he is. The guy has played several thousand innings there, and he's awful. Every part of his game is below average except one- arm strength. And that's not enough.
This team needs to take improving its infield defense as seriously as its taken improving its outfield defense. Keeping Plouffe (or a comparable glove) at third, and moving Sano to first or DH, would be a good next step.
