  1. Twins need a coach from Latin America, pronto | StarTribune.com I think Reusse makes a good case for why another whitebread manager like Paul Molitor or Gene Glynn, despite their pedigrees, might not be the best candidates to usher in the next wave of Latin American talents. A couple of possibilities that might fit the bill: Dave Martinez Sandy Alomar Bobby Cuellar Anyone else?
  2. Yeah I could see that. Actually, for sake of argument, I'll run with it. Because in a way is the nightmare scenario: Trade a top prospect on the doorstep of a HoF career for a guy who never again regains the form of his thrilling days of yesteryear. Obviously everything would be different. Mauer's career would have been different. Maybe he never gets bilateral leg weakness. Maybe Pierzynski dyes his hair black instead of going with blonde tips. But to keep it simple, assume that nothing would have gone differently production-wise and... Who would have won the WAR? bb-Ref WAR: 28.9 to 43.5 - A's wins the WAR Fangraphs WAR: 40.9 to 43.0 - A's wins the WAR So even in a borderline nightmare scenario like this, the trade still could have worked out fairly close to being a wash. -- Other guys traded the offseason following 2003: Javier Vazquez Alfonso Soriano Arod Livan Hernandez Carlos Guillen Billy Wagner Nick Johnson Randy Choate Juan Rivera Maicer Izturis Chris Reitsma edit: I should clarify, those are the combined WAR totals of Hudson + Pierzynski versus Mauer over 2004-2013. Strictly judging the trade in terms of Mauer's WAR versus Hudson, its a lot more lopsided bb-ref: 14.6 to 43.5 fangraphs: 25.5 to 43.0
  3. In A ball? Sano's rates were 14.5 and 26.0 edit: nevermind we must be looking at the same thing. I guess I wouldn't be as hung up about the lack of walks given the production with the bat.
  4. I agree. They're also about identical to Sano's but that didn't stop him getting promoted. He's done more than enough to warrant a promotion I think. Let's get going here, he's 21 already.
  5. I tend to agree. We have enough guys getting hit in the face unintentionally (Rosario). We don't need to give opposing pitchers any reasons to throw at them intentionally. I just hoped someone has explained this to Sano.
  6. Let's see Hicksie try to hit a splitter now
  7. Also not a horse http://mlblogstwins.files.wordpress.com/2008/07/joenathan1.jpg
  8. At least tomorrow we can face Felix
  9. Looks like a rally avatar to me
  10. What really? Nice car dude!
  11. 0-2? Belt high oughta do it.
  12. Spoiler alert. Samwell makes a trip to Mole town and gets pecked by one of the moles
  13. I have a sinking feeling Ibanez is going to go all Cano on us
  14. Clear Channel owns pretty much everything, am I wrong?
  15. Still seems like a bargain
  16. buck made a fart joke in another game thread. I got that. The other 90% of what he says require a heavy dose of cough syrup to understand I think.
  17. Hypothetical question. This will be good. Instead of dealing AJ, the Twins kept him and traded Mauer instead. The No. 1 prospect in baseball 2 years running. What did they get in return.
  18. One could argue that the game itself will iron this behavior out. Show up enough guys and someone will fire one up around your shoulder. That being said, the kid is 20 and it isn't necessary to teach him every lesson the hard way esp. if there's a chance it could end up really setting back his career. I agree he needs to be punished.
  19. He's not a zero? Geez, easy on the superlatives, KLaw.
  20. The only thing Walker didn't do is draw a walk.
  21. Yeah his curveball is awful. He got by last year on impeccable fastball and changeup command. Like Pavano in 2010. But when you lack a real third offering, you cannot afford to lose even a hair of command or you'll get what we're getting now. I don't even see a bullpen role for him atm, his stuff is just too poundable.
  22. Liriano batting in the top of the 8th right now, holding a 1-0 lead over Strasburg, great game!
