  1. You know, I've always had a thing for Smoky the Bears
  2. Mauer's last HR - June 22
  3. Delayed steel - worked perfectly!
  4. Still feels like an interleague game. I almost wish Bedard would bean someone, intentionally - Arcia maybe, just to get some bad blood cooking here.
  5. Gibson shook off Hermann a lot last start. So far looks like he's shaking Mauer off too. I suspect he wants to throw that slider more than Mauer/Hermann will call for it.
  6. Why, because of the swing? How's his glove?
  7. I disagree. Ryan might have that mindset but some GMs are clearly more willing than others to improve already playoff-bound teams. The Red Sox, Rangers, and As all made those sorts of trades. The Twins, during their run of just-playoff good under Ryan for most of the 00s, weren't ever into those sort of moves. Always content to sit on their haunches. Smith was different. He just made a horrible trade, due to poor scouting or whatever.
  8. I have a feeling we just bottomed out, Twins fans. Pretty soon Hammer will displace Chris Hermann and Arcia is on his way up. I personally find Arcia to be a much more exciting prospect than anyone not named Sano or Buxton. We'll get to have a look at Albers (don't hold your breath). Hey you can't have it all.
  9. Yeah I guess with Beltran in RF that helped push the Mets over the top probably. By the way, Carlos Beltran, HoFamer?
  10. Diamond just pitched. So it shouldn't be a problem. I hope Hicks re-gains some confidence down there. His body language has looked pretty lousy for most of the summer, IMO.
  11. I really think Plouffe has been getting some shoddy luck with the batted balls lately. He hit a few on the button in recent days that were caught, and now Cain robs him of a HR.
  12. Hicksie inside-outed a ball into the left field corner, at the track, but Gordon caught it and got it back in quickly. Also Morneau was the guy on 3rd base so he wasn't tagging unless it got over the fence. Cletus hit one to the 403 sign but it was caught.
  13. Welp, two warning track fly balls with bases loaded but no scores.
  14. Bases loaded, 1 out, Hicks up.
  15. Well Maxwell's RBI single puts the DP back in order. At the small cost of a run. Phew
  16. Hermann airmails the cutoff man, everyone tags, double play out of order. 1 out, runners on 2nd and 3rd Come on Hermann
  17. Looks like sunshine with an air quality index of 5 due to baseball particulates expected to emanate from Target Field in the top halves of the first 5 frames.
  18. I wouldn't doubt its harder for an umpire to stare over a 6' 5" frame than a 6 foot one. According to umpire.org: Emphasis mine. Shorter catchers would be able to crouch lower, allowing umpires to crouch lower, giving them a better view of low pitches and presumably call more strikes down there.
  19. Dirty little fact that probably doesn't mean anything: The 2012 Twins were a better than .500 ballclub in the 33 games where Butera started at catcher. I was a little surprised to see Mauer had showed up on the wrong side of the 7/26 week's framing leaderboards. Parker's already pointed out how Mauer doesn't get many low strikes, but if he isn't getting the side to side strikes or the high strikes anymore, then there's even less reason to keep him crouching on that twice surgically repaired left knee. I think with Morneau leaving, and Mauer going into his age 31 season, the time is ripe to take a shot at a David Ross or Jose Molina this offseason while these elite framers are still cheap. Then shift Mauer into the primary 1B / backup C role once and for all.
  20. "At 39 years old, he (Carroll)'s as dangerous as anyone else in a situation like this" Rex Hudler about 30 seconds ago
  21. David thought that ball was lougher than it was
  22. Nice throw there no. 12... (looks up roster)... Chris Hermann.
  23. What do you attribute the month of July to, besides the improved pitching and defense?
  24. First pitch and Jamey's already choking up
